Mark my words, he’ll be the next President. Higgins only won in 2011 because of the debate incident – he was well behind in the opinion polls before that. Gallagher had seven years to perfect his pitch yet can’t string a sentence together. The media seem to be turning on Freeman as they did with Mary Davis in 2011. Liadh Ni Riada is being hounded about the HPV vaccine. Peter Casey’s golf ball issue will be dredged up time and again.
Duffy will win a contest that is more a process of elimination than a conventional election.

He’s been president for seven years and has done a fine job, unless something unexpected happens he’ll be pres for another seven years.
Higgins will walk the election, he is liked by many and has done nothing wrong in his first term. The only thing potentially going against him is his age but he has managed to answer all questions related to it well. Other candidates will just split each other’s vote.
It’s hardly surprising that most of the big parties are not running a candidate. With an election looming they don’t want to plough resources into a losing cause
