The Meat Conceit

at

Web education channel Kurzgesagt explains why meat is the best worst thing in the world.

Which is to say, it’s the worst, least efficient, most environmentally damaging and ethically dubious thing.

I have been trying to eat less meat. It is hard though. Nothing like a rasher sandwich on fresh crusty white bread………

Intolerable cruelty on an industrial scale going on in these factory farms, has anyone a heart anymore let alone a conscience. Enjoy your hot chicken baguettes.

The people of Okinawa, a Japanese island, with the highest prevalence of proven centenarians, could teach us a thing or two. Their diet is mostly plant based and a common staple there is the purple sweet potato, luckily enough, you can buy them here now, in some Asian food shops, you can also order them online, they’re grown in Louth now, if I remember rightly.

      * Forks Over Knives, on Netflix is a very interesting watch, if you are thinking of making a few changes or going the whole hog, parden the pun, and giving yourself a complete overhaul.

Thanks for the Netflix rec there Raven. Check out Okja as well for another great watch on industrial meat production. It’s actually a fictional story but it’s very effective. Tilda Swinton is in it and I do love her

You’re welcome Millie. Thanks, definitely going to watch Okja, sounds enlightening and Tilda is one of my favourites, too, a unique woman.

I agree with Seamus, above my previous comment. The conditions animals, for our food consumption, are kept in and their treatment is beyond cruel.

Anyone on the turn, may find viewing ‘Vegucated’ gives them their final push. After watching it, my daughter became a vegetarian and trained as a Nutritionist.

I had a conversation today which forced me to count, which is weird. Apart from very occasional fish, no flesh eaten in 35 years. Steering increasingly towards a plant based diet these days. I don’t care what other people eat but I do get frustrated when they poison my food with their carelessness or arrogance.

    Is that preaching?

    1. Raven

You’re not preaching at all and well done you,a plant-based diet is the key to eternal youth (IMO) we’ll be like the gang from Cocoon.
