How Was It For You?

at

Last night.

During the first live TV presidential debate on RTÉ One’s Claire Byrne Live.

Did you stay up?

Did you stay awake?

Bunty Twuntington-McFuff, real name Norma Burke, disrupted the debate as former Dragon’s Den star and millionaire Peter Casey was talking about how money really isn’t an issue for him – regardless of the cost of his presidential bid.

It wasn’t clear what was said by Ms Burke, who later tweeted:

President Michael D Higgins said he couldn’t attend the debate due to prior presidential engagements while former Dragon’s Den star Sean Gallagher didn’t attend because Mr Higgins didn’t attend.

Along with Mr Casey, former Dragon’s Den star Gavin Duffy, Sinn Fein MEP Liadh Ni Riada, and Senator Joan Freeman attended.

It can be watched in full here.

Casey grinned a lot which he may have thought would make him look relaxed and comfortable:
It didn’t: He looked the least assured and least credible.
SF would not be my cup of tea; but Ní Riada came across quite well – apart from a gaff about Freeman’s finances which I’d say Ní Riada regretted as soon as she said it.

A former boyfriend of Freeman’s (from 40 years ago) lent her €120,000 for her campaign.
I suppose with her husband in the audience it was a slightly uncomfortable moment.
I don’t understand why Ní Riada brought it up; it doesn’t seem to be a big deal.

I actually thought you’d finally managed to stalk her into submission…

            ANDY WHERE ARE YOU BUD??

It was very petty. “Now its not for me to question the nature of your relationship with this person”. Low blow.

” can’t think of an ex who’d say hello to me, never mind give me 120k ”
You’ve got to take them out of the box and re-inflate them first.

@Paulus “I didn’t mean the amount; I was referring to the source of it”
but the source would be irrelevant if it were a €120 loan. The only reason it is a talking point is that it is an eye-watering amount of money to lend to anyone.

Presidential Debate! More like Buzzword Fest 2018. Embarrassing stuff from all of them. “Dynamic, inclusive, magnificent ” and so on. Some sentences were just a like a random association of words book ended with opening and closing statements. Go away you bunch of narcissistic buffoons.

Ah come on Ranter, they have to say something. I’d like to be President because I love Phoenix Park, especially this time of year. I’d like to be out early in my wellies, kicking up the leaves and staring at the deer.

I’d enjoy the space and light, and chatting to various delegations over afternoon tea. No more than two hours though, make them go home then. I’d write a good speech, but if someone else could deliver it, that would be cool. Vote for me.

In fairness she was still in character. Pity she never made it down in front of the cameras. That would have been great

I meant the TV show but yeah you’re right – she shouldn’t be tweeting out of character. Someone needs to be constantly taking the piss out of these egomaniacs

Higgins had no Presidential engagements last night.

It was a snub to the Irish people and was full of entitlement.

the only positive from last nights debate was to show up Claire Byrne’s unsuitability for this kind of gig and secondly for showing up RTE’s deference for miggledy. the biggest cheer on the night was when it was pointed out that she was taking the word of the spokesperson when miggledy should’ve been there

Limp wristed, no backbone and her need to let herself out of a tough situation and end with her having a smile on her own face says it all, She’s clearly uncomfortable with herself once she enters in to a combative dialogue. She just lets them off the hook right as she’s supposed to get tough with the blind sider. There were so many punches that could have been landed last night (if only for the entertainment factor) but she simply doesn’t posses the minimals required to finish the job. A far cry form the days of Brian Farrell or the like. Problem is who else gets the gig? (And it would have to be a woman – current climate etc) The angry emotional Newstalk lunchtime doc! Certainly not for a factual program.

Claire Byrne is out of her depth hosting any kind of programme, TV or Radio. She will cost the taxpayer more money due to incompétence and basic intellect.
Autocue reading the News was and still is her level.
