Any news on the footy ?
Last time I looked a bunch of fresh-faced and mad keen Welsh kids were running rings round a bunch of bearded, tattooed donkeys coached by Mr Magoo and Saddam Hussein.
Still,I see Gibraltar clocked up their second win of the competition.
    Have it !

I was being restrained as well.
The contrast was stark.Ireland were all beards, tatts and cynical fouls embodied by James McClean, a journeyman hoofer better known for refusing to wear a poppy than any footballing exploits.
Wales were lacking their two star players but their youngsters, sans body art and facial hair, never stopped running till the final whistle.
Ireland were creatively and physically third-rate,devoid of talent, ideas and passion.
Even the Welsh supporters outsang the locals.
Facing relegation from a competition which didn’t even require qualification Ireland are also looking at the real of prospect of not playing in a tournament the country is co-hosting.
Perhaps it’s time for a change of management and give someone else the chance of topping up their pension for only a few days work every so often.

i didn’t see the football as am back in seville this week. did though see the thuggish little england louts drunkenly marauding through the narrow streets of a peaceful and welcoming old city, smashing and vandalizing everything they encountered. would make you wonder, wouldn’t it, charger?!

          2. Ollie Cromwell

Do I wonder if they’re anything like the GAA shirt-wearing drunken Irish tools who regularly disgrace themselves in Australia ?
            Not really m8.

          3. Brother Barnabas

yeah, fair point, almost the same: just that one necessitates more than 800 riot police patrolling the streets with helicopter surveillance overhead and the other thing, eh, doesn’t. so not the same at all, is it?

best get back to breakfast, tubs

Nah,you plonker, they’re just a small element of troublemakers from both countries grabbing the headlines.
Now back to boring the other fellow expats from your barstool at the Plastic Paddy Arms.

            a characteristically ignorant assessment

here’s the actual state of things, from your own jack pitt-brooke:

“The behaviour of so many of England fans abroad is no accident. It is [entirely at one] with our national character: insular, arrogant, confrontational, territorial”

            Irish Football 101.

” THE BEST SUPPORTERS IN THE WORLD? IRELAND’S ENDURING DELUSION ”

The announcement that Ireland is part of a multi-nation consortium bidding to host the 2030 World Cup opens the mouth-watering possibility that football’s biggest tournament could be coming to these shores. A chance to swing open the front door and invite the global footballing family into the home of supporters that are often considered world class themselves.

Yet there is something crucial that even England’s beleaguered travelling fans could teach the Irish when it comes to being football supporters. And that is the way they combine a genuine love of for the game with a strong sense of local identity and civic pride. Because unlike the Irish, the English tend to support their own.

            eh, what?

is this the sad moment the fat cells have finally overpowered the brain cells?

was inevitable, but still a pity to see

Daily Express cracking up their reader’s blood pressure again, this time over the march on Saturday. How dare they demand democracy etc?

People’s Vote twitter account posts some interesting quotes from John Major.

“no form of Brexit will remotely match up to the promises made by the Leave Campaign in the referendum: they were vote-gathering fantasies, not serious politics.”

“Belligerent noises-off – on a daily basis – have built up ill-will, and made the Prime Minister’s task even more difficult.”

I have made no false promises on Brexit – I’m free to tell you the truth

“I believe those who promised what will never be delivered will have much to answer for.”

Big result in Bavaria where the immigrant-friendly, pro-human rights Green Party finished 1st in Munich & 2nd statewide, beating the far-right AfD (who finished 4th) & ended conservative majority rule for the first time in over 60 years.

      1. Ollie Cromwell

The Greens are basically the Lib Dems with better sandals.
Interesting that the AfD managed 10% of the vote having not fielded a candidate in the previous elections.
Most important of course is that an increasingly fragile Angela Merkel is haemorrhaging support and allies over her hated immigration policy.

      2. ReproButina

I am tempted. Sure we’ll see what happens with the locals next year. If they run someone in my area I could do a bit of canvassing.

    Brexit news just in …
” Remember Blighty would be back of the queue for a trade deal ” ?
Under fast-track trade rules, the US Trade Representative cannot start trade negotiations until 90 days after notifying Congress. Last night he sent that notification to Congress.

The letter from the US Trade Representative, Robert Lighthizer, to Congress said the USTR planned to start talks between “the first and fifth largest economies in the world … as soon as it is ready after it exits the European Union on March 29, 2019.” The United States wants to develop “cutting edge obligations for emerging sectors where U.S. and U.K. innovators and entrepreneurs are most competitive.” The UK – US free trade deal will cover the biggest transatlantic bilateral trading relationship in the world, right over the airspace of Ireland…

Mmmm, here’s one big boy can’t wait for the chlorine-washed chicken …
