Is there an obligation on the government to canvas or campaign for a presidential nominee?
Could they not let the nominees go at it and get on with their own work? Like, I’m sure Eoghan Murphy could find some issue to concentrate his efforts on. If he really tried.

FFS; stop the conflict of interest…. both the media and the elected are working their bottom off to protect themselves from any outside party entering the Areas and uncovering a mountain of piss value expenditures.

      1. rotide

He made a video complaining about MDH not having Irish dogs and used an American voice over.

Lies and Truth don’t come into it when you’re talking about that level of lack of self awareness.

        1. Boj

…you watched it yes? Y’know the figures quoted in it…are these figures true?
          Who cares who narrates?

          1. rotide

            “Who cares who narrates?”
He made a video attacking MDH for not having Irish dogs and paid an american to voice it.

Nothing about this strikes you as wrong?

          2. Boj

The person who narrates isn’t taking money from tax payer, so yeah…who cares!! Could you stop being so obtuse and tell me if that 10K figure is correct or a lie?

          3. Vanessa off the Telly

I thought it was very childish
my teenager would do better on her phone

HeadCasey has made his campaign newsworthy (finally)
            by playing the discrimination game
so If he only want’s Irish breeds in public office then he should say so himself
instead of that schoolboy tacky animation

          4. rotide

I have no idea if it’s correct or not and I don’t really care?

I refuse to get into a reasonable discussion about the ins and outs of government expenditure when faced with this rubbish.

          5. Boj

Why are ye all ignoring the tax payers money bit?
Yes, Casey is a dope(nothing new to politics), yeah it’s a low blow on MDH(again, nothing new), but it’s our money lads!!
To quote rotide… “Nothing about this strikes you as wrong?”

          6. Brother Barnabas

“Why are ye all ignoring the tax payers money bit? … it’s our money lads!!”

because he’s already answered the question: he spent €600 on dog grooming last year (not €10,000) and he paid for it himself.

        2. AssPants

Ah now really…… genuinely who really gives a sincere f$£k?????

As if the Aras has any influence in day to day running’s of this country. In fact and thinking out loud; it does have an influence; and that is to ensure that all concerned are secure in the knowledge that the gravy train will keep running provided we get one of our own in the Aras and none of the squandering of tax payers monies are leaked.

PS Rotide: this is an election for a pageant nothing more. Maybe distill your ambition to whip up a hostile fury at all “other” candidates as that is who everyone bar Higgins is, according to the current group of inept and incompetent beings claiming to run the country and their newspapers; “other”.

    1. Joe cool

Casey thinks hes being smart by being controversial, like trump. When in fact he just looks a massive clueless idiot

  3. scottser

Actually, how are ye all voting on the blasphemy law? on the face it, it should be removed but i never trust the blushirts with this sort of thing.

      1. ReproButina

Article 40.6.1, paragraph three will change from
“Aon ní diamhaslach nó ceannairceach nó graosta a fhoilsiú nó a aithris is cion inphionóis é de réir dlí.” / “The publication or utterance of blasphemous, seditious, or indecent matter is an offence which shall be punishable in accordance with law.”

        to

“Aon ní ceannairceach nó graosta a fhoilsiú nó a aithris is cion inphionóis é de réir dlí.” / “The publication or utterance of seditious, or indecent matter is an offence which shall be punishable in accordance with law.”

The law in this case being the Defamation Act 2009.

    1. rotide

Yes, You should definitely base your vote on what FG think.

God forbid you might have to make up your own mind.

      1. scottser

Well theres no need need to be self pleasurer about it rotide, i was just inviting opinions on the subject given there hasnt been much debate, and it would be unwise to think that there arent any complexities or contradictions to the fg orthodoxy.

        1. millie st murderlark

He’s in a right snit today, scottser. I’d take him with a pinch of salt if I were you.

I reckon the reason there hasn’t been much by way of debate is because it’s much more clear cut than other refs in the past. The need for blasphemy laws in society nowadays is farcical.

    2. Rob_G

Why would not trust the blushirts, at the very least on the social issues? Marriage equality and the abortion referendum were taken care of quite efficiently.

        1. Rob_G

That would be more an issue of good governance or democracy, no?

(I still maintain that it was a brilliant idea, poorly executed, personally).

  4. Giggidygoo

FFGLAB need someone in the Aras who has no problem passing laws over Christmas dinners – that’s the reality. Could Leo not get Miggeldy Sockies?

  5. Giggidygoo

Have a look at Flanagan ‘pouring’ a cuppa. There’s nothing coming out of the spout. Same with Varadkar. How Much did that photo shoot cost. ?
Basically the blueshits are out pushing an empty vessel for president. Nothing in the pot. Cost relationship.

          1. millie st murderlark

I’m sure you don’t need to be reminded that the folks in BS do this for free, as opposed to, say, the journal which has plenty of funding and employees to take care of content quality, and their articles are usually a copy paste job or riddled with errors.

          2. Brother Barnabas

i’d give rob the benefit of the doubt there – suspect he didn’t mean that as it came across

What is it with Irish voters,Stockholm Syndrome, one term means one term, hold them/him accountable. Its 2018 he’s acting all ‘aw shucks’ over his expenses, like questioning what he costs/spends is an intrusion of his privacy.
Sending your chauffeur and car ahead of you,to Belfast citing security concerns over road travel is a new level off nonsense that only Irish voters would buy,he’s out of touch, living in a bubble of BS.

      1. johnny

Irish people wonder why the Brits consider Ireland and the Irish to be a bunch of thick paddies!
He’s quite literally taking you guys for a ride, simply refused to answer questions, when caught lying just smiles, yeah one term….
        His wife and entourage !

“Last week, Michael D Higgins said he had to fly to Belfast by private jet in May as his staff were advised he could not be picked up at the border for “security reasons”.
But well-placed PSNI sources rejected his claim as “inconceivable”.
On Monday, Mr Higgins said: “My office judges these trips and terms.”
The president said he believed that “the considerations that they take into account are logistics and security”.
“But I want to say, again, how grateful I am to the PSNI for not just the assistance that they provide in relation to my security but for the courtesy the men and women have indicated to [my wife] Sabina and I and those travelling with me, and long may it continue,” he added.
Reporters tried to press the president further on the matter during a press launch in Drogheda, County Louth, on Monday, but he declined to answer further questions on the issue.”

Can he not produce the ‘accounts’ for the first 6 years of expenses? Or are presidential accounts only done every 7 years, or when questioned?

  7. Truth in the News

Its time Higgins was fired by electorate and exposed as the “Fake Socialist” that he is….if we would
not let Haughey get away with it neither should we allow Higgins either.
