Brilliant speech by life long Labour contributor and London firefighter, from Sept, but only uploaded past couple of days, regarding the UK *Lefts’ failure of women with regard to “Self ID” and the “gender identity mafia”.

A couple of commenters on this site who’ve thrown around “terf” mockingly and as a disparagement and/or insult, and/or saying there’s no harm with self identity, you could do with watching this.

*Left including… Corbyn; UK Labour; Owen Jones; The Guardian; all Leftist media; all UK unions bar 3… and more, all get called out.

    Again, a great speech!

Interesting, thanks Clampers will look at the link. Still a bit shocked by the Star headline. Bastards.

          1. Adama

Aye it is. Animal cruelty of any kind is wrong and is a barometer of us as a species. Can’t believe they’d do that. * (just back from pub so opinions may be emotionally charged)

The more I hear about these armies, the less I like them.
It wouldn’t surprise me at all to hear that they went around killing humans too.

          3. Ollie Cromwell

            Buy a poppy then.
Funds raised by the Royal British Legion directly support ex-servicemen and women.

          4. Ollie Cromwell

Not the sort of sentiment most people agreed with when Herr Hitler was knocking at the door.
You enjoy the luxury of never being threatened by a dictator.
If Britain had fallen Ireland would have been overrun on the first day before the Nazis even sat down for their lunchtime bratwurst and schnapps.

        1. small ads

To be fair, these are ‘dogs of war’. Would you take a highly trained attack dog into your family home?

          1. realPolithicks

This is a repost of an earlier comment which appears to have been deleted along with other critical comments, if that is what BS is becoming, a site that randomly deletes comments without reference and particularly critical comments then you can keep it. I could be wrong but I’m guessing that most people come here for the comments rather than the content and BS should bear that in mind.

“That’s the point bertie, there is no thinking or policy on here at all. For instance they frequently publish swear words themselves but then won’t even allow commentators to use them even if spelled phonetically. Its very unprofessional and frankly sometimes turns me off this site completely. There’s no rhyme or reason to this site and frequently seems to depend on who is “working” at any given time.”

          2. SOQ

            +1.

It’s now got to the point where you can’t have a civilised or indeed even intelligent conversation on this site with that thug trying to shout it down to his level. Why is this troll allowed to do this John? I get that BS does not make a lot of money and that it is ran by volunteers but we, the commentators, are giving our time free too.

I am a pretty good judge of character and I think you to be a decent man but if this continues, BroadSheet will close. Maybe that is what you want but if so; why not just go ahead and do it instead of allowing such disrespect of the OTHER volunteers, namely us?

I am sending this to you in a private email with a screen grab of the post, just in case it is also ‘accidentally’ deleted before you see it.

          3. Ollie Cromwell

What you want is an echo chamber where everyone thinks and talks like you.
It’s the classic whine of the liberals who try to shut down debate they don’t agree with.
It happens in universities,Hollywood the media and everywhere people are employed in the public sector.
It happened yesterday when Remoaners demanded Arron Banks shouldn’t appear on this morning’s Andrew Marr Show to answer questions about his donations to the Leave campaign because the National Crime Agency has been asked to investigate them by the Remain-dominated Electoral Commission. He has not been charged with anything.
            Well,I have news for you.
Joe Public doesn’t give a toss about your thin-skinned sensitivities.
In fact, they find it amusing. It’s why they laughed at Tubridy going into bat for the wokes against Casey.
Robust debate is the cornerstone of demecracy.Even if you don’t like what the other side is saying.
            Get over it petals.

          4. SOQ

Oh look, its back. Every five minutes by the looks of it. Not much going for unemployable comedians these days I suppose. Being funny to the rest of us every now and again would help earn a living of course.

          5. bisted

…will you be sending a screenshot of your defamatory comments about barstaff at some Dublin pubs…or do you restrict your racism to particular nationalities?

          6. SOQ

@ John Ryan, I am saying that we do not need some ignorant caricature of England nor Irish America ‘educating’ us. If someone thinks they know better than argue their point, not while playing head games as trolls and certainly not as moderators.

          7. Cian

SOQ. If we all ignore the trolls they will go away.
Ollie always gets lots of reaction. So stays.
It is in our hands who we respond to.

          8. SOQ

@ Cian, You clearly did not see what went on yesterday. People were very angry and i do not blame them. I can hold my own both here and in the real world but I do not like bullies. This site has great potential but it is going downhill fast.

  2. SOQ

‘Secret’ Brexit deal which is not very secret if it is all over the papers. Anyways, if Brexit now means remaining in the CU then what was the point of it?

    1. Ger Mc

Why doesn’t everyone just ignore Ollie the same way you all ignore leather jacket man . Soq is being more of a pain than Ollie at the moment and is beginning to sound like a cry baby.

  3. Eoin

In the Sunday Business Post, did Susan Mitchell (best health journalist in the country) sell her soul to get the interview with the ex-HSE boss Tony O’Brien, there seems to be little in the way of scrutinising a litany of HSE failings, and lots about the unpleasant politicians and notions about what a health service should be.

      1. Ollie Cromwell

        Not at all.
        It’s his right.
It’s why many people gave their lives so he could have that right.
I respect his decision and that of the English clubs he has played for who stood by his decision.
        Welcome to freedom baby.
( By oafish I was referring to the way he plays football.)

        1. jusayinlike

Yes it’s his right not to slavishly celebrate the monarchys centuries old vile opium trade..

    1. Janet, I ate my avatar

ok skip the nice part of my comment and just feck off, that was a measured comment
this site is full of it

    1. Janet, I ate my avatar

      mine has been ebbing slowly
but this is the straw that breaks the camel’s back
      total disrespect for your readers

          1. CoderNerd

I agree. I’ve gone from reading the comments on Broadsheet to a quick skim on most articles. At this stage you can guess exactly what the comments will be.

It’s a pity. There was a lot of insightful posting and good debate that changed a few minds at one stage.

          2. Papi

I’m far from the most serious commenter on here, I literally come for the hot wheels and fun talk, cos I miss Irish small talk so much. But if Bertie and I get deleted for, God forbid, mentioning the bias, bodger and co, something is a bit off.
I love this site, it’s my home away from home.

      1. Ollie Cromwell

        What did you miss ?
Some dog puns,a few corny jokes and the hilarious sight of a numpty having a tantrum over deleted posts.
        Not a lot really.

        1. Papi

What we all miss is what this place was like before you and your disgusting behavior.
          That’s what people miss.

          1. Sibling of Daedalus

I think a bit more respect for the site would be in order. If you don’t like it go elsewhere. You know the score. It’s a small team. Comment moderators need sleep too. Janet, I remember the site being very supportive to you on one occasion. You should too.

          2. John 'Preposterous' Ryan

Thank you, Sibling. The moderation is light over the weekend. I am sorry concerns couldn’t be addressed quicker.

          3. millie st murderlark

I’d be one of the first to defend this site and the lads who run it, but with respect, today Ollie spammed the comments section with complete crap, and of the seventy odd comments I saw, I’d say 85% were his. I’ve no issue with him expressing a differing opinion, fine. I don’t have to like the way he interests with the commentators here, that’s the nature of the internet. But the needless stuff he posted here today was spam, pure and simple, and as I said before not even memes was let away with it.

@john & bodger & co. I appreciate that you all have lives and the voluntary nature of the site, so thank you for listening and removing the comments.

          4. John 'Preposterous' Ryan

Thanks, Millie. I removed the comments as soon as I got on the site. We don’t wish to close off comments during the night and sometimes this can occur. I am sorry.

          5. Bertie Blenkinsop

The part I don’t understand though is, Ollie’s posts were being moderated.
Someone moderated the swear words in his post.
And when Papi and I posited the theory that Ollie was in fact a moderator trolling the site for clicks it was deleted almost immediately.

So there clearly was selective moderation at play while OC was polluting the site.

          6. John 'Preposterous' Ryan

Comments were moderated for swearing earlier by Neil. They were moderated for content when I got on to the site. Your theory that we are trolling our own site is untrue. Ollie has no role in Broadsheet whatsoever.

          7. Bertie Blenkinsop

My point was Papi and I had our comments deleted immediately whereas Ollie’s were left to fester for hours.
I don’t engage with Ollie but
I’ve no doubt that Broadsheet love the outrage and responses he brings to the site.
You say he’s not your doing and I’ve no reason not to believe you but I’ll put it this way, if he didn’t exist you’d probably invent him.
It might also be an idea to respond to queries rather than deleting them, that way it makes it look like you’ve got something to hide.
            Happy Monday.

          8. John 'Preposterous' Ryan

You concede we are not behind Ollie but you are certain that if he didn’t exist we’d invent him because we love the outrage. You are wrong.

          9. Janet, I ate my avatar

Insulting our intelligence under misguided view we need to be provoked to think
can I say that without getting deleted now ?????

          10. Janet, I ate my avatar

            yes indeed
I am still allowed to take umbrage to a respectful point made being deleted

          11. Janet, I ate my avatar

with respect Sibling I lost my temper after deleted reasonable comments, it’s frustrating when that other crap flies,
            I’m human

          12. bisted

…ah here…I’ve seen better than 80% of the comments on here being from coming from a single echo…

          13. Ollie Cromwell

            @Maurizio Zanfanti
Okay,I hold my hands up,I was quite refreshed while posting dog puns in the early hours.
I’d just come from a raucous dinner party.
I admit I fell below my usual standards of knowledgeable and incisive political comment.
And the bad jokes were just an attempt to bring some humour to a couple of commentators on here who were miserable about having some posts deleted, not that I had the first idea what they were about.
I’ll try to up my game although to be honest I have some chums round who are enjoying a few Makers Mark shots.
            I’ll try to observe decorum.
            Soz and all that.

  4. Clampers Outside!

Now that that is cleaned up, everyone can enjoy their Sunday dinner….
And with mine out of the way, it’s strippin’ and paintin’ a bathroom for me!
    Yay…. -ish… :)

    1. Ollie Cromwell

A brisk walk for me,a few scoops and roast lamb and tatties.
      Proper Sunday.
      Marvellous,what ?

      1. DeKloot

Surely you’ll also find time to chuck some pigeon heads at some distressed and unfortunate individual or two….

        1. Ollie Cromwell

          A strange one that.
But they obviously put a bit of thought into their banter.
Gaining notoriety with a single pigeon’s head.
And putting Twitter into a flap.
(Stop it Ollie – this is a pun-free zone today )

    2. Cian

@Clampers – are you stripping so you don’t get any paint on yer clothes?
Or is stripping while painting some sort of fetish?

  5. Giggidygoo

Harris? Being saying this for ages. A boy. Same as Murphy and Varadkar. Boys thinking they are up to Mens jobs.

    1. rotide

Young lads doing a very difficult job.

      Badly? Maybe.

What exactly do you do ? What exactly are you doing to help them/the situation?

      Yeh, didnt think so

      1. Cian

….but all his predecessors, who were much older, did such a wonderful job of the HSE. It’s only fallen apart in the last two year.

    1. Clampers Outside!

      https://www.broadsheet.ie/2018/10/24/a-strange-kind-of-vindication/

In the piece discussed above Frances “claims” to be exonerated of wrong doing over McCabe.

Discussion is based on a story in Sunday Indo that she wrote, claiming her exoneration…

I linked to a readable version of that story on the pressreader website in the comments.
In that piece she mentions how Dàil privilege was used against her… it’s about half way through the piece she mentions it.
I think that puts the tweet in context.

  6. Ollie Cromwell

I see Marine Le Pen’s National Rally has overtaken the centrist party of Emmanuel Macron, the French president, for the first time, according to an opinion poll released Sunday.
It’s a further sign of the rise of the far-Right in Europe as well as Macron’s spectacular fall from grace in France.
Coupled with Frau Merkel’s disintegration it’s clear the electorate is growing increasingly impatient at the tin-eared response of European leaders to the concerns over immigration.
Having no land borders Ireland is slightly inured from the problem but that luxury won’t last forever.

    1. jusayinlike

LOL, you think Brexit is about immigration and border control.

I hope the City doesn’t get it’s special deal and UK crashes out into communism.

      1. Ollie Cromwell

If Brexit isn’t about immigration why do all the nodding dog liberals on here say it’s racist ?
You haven’t really thought that one through have you ?

          1. Ollie Cromwell

So Brexit is about immigration then ?
Actually polls have consistently shown most people who voted Leave did so for two reasons in roughly the same measure – immigration and sovereignty.
It’s also worth pointing out that one in three black and ethnic minority voters in the referendum voted to Leave.
Rather dents the old racism theory but you keep on running with it if it makes you happy old sport.
It’ll all soon be irrelevant anyway.

          2. ReproButina

Well there’s how it was sold to the public and what it’s all about.

You spend so much time here carping on about immigrants and cheerleading about Sasamach that you’d be hard pushed to argue the two aren’t connected.

  7. Clampers Outside!

Well I started one bathroom, and ended up doing two of ’em… another couple of hours I’ll be done :)

And look at all the messin’ on BS, and nuttin’ ta do with me, wha’ !

Hope your Sunday is going alright Mr Preposterous, all that messin’ aside !
