Looking forward to being a guest on tonight’s @RTELateLateShow. Tune in tonight at 9:30pm #Peterfortaoiseach
— Peter Casey (@CaseyPeterJ) November 2, 2018
I can’t see that Peter Casey emerging intact from tangling with the threshing machine of Ryan Tubridy’s intellect tonight on the Late Show.#latelate #latelateshow #PeterCasey
— Hugo (@AodhBC) November 2, 2018
Last night.
The Late Late Show on RTÉ One.
Ryan Tubridy and Presidential runner-up Peter Casey.
A sloppy ambush, you say?
#latelate Peter Casey got 23% of the vote, I wanted to know why, did I find out? No. That was a crass, shameful, embarrassing “interview”. Typical of RTE and Tubridy. Scandalous, car crash public broad casting.
— Tuath DeDannan (@Tuath_DeDannan) November 2, 2018
The @CaseyPeterJ interview on #latelate is possibly the worst interview I’ve witnessed on media in this country. Tubridys shouty, out of control and childish behaviour was embarrassing to watch. Felt sorry for Casey because he wasn’t listened to once or allowed finish a sentence. https://t.co/a7Ee8zvScx
— The Niall Boylan Show (@Niall_Boylan) November 3, 2018
We paid for that biased, noisy pretense at an interview. I don’t remember electing Ryan Tubridy to curate our political offering. #Latelate
— Glenna Lynch (@Glenna_lynch) November 2, 2018
As much as I dislike Casey I really can’t stand the way Tubridy is utterly incapable of treating people he disagrees with the way he treats other guests. #latelate
— Daniiiiiiiiiii (@ThatFOBFan) November 2, 2018
No lover of #PeterCasey but that was a hatchet job by tubridy #latelate
— Paul (@gleno1974) November 2, 2018
I generally like Tubridy, but he is making it virtually impossible for Peter Casey to articulate his views. I know Casey isn’t the most articulate to begin with, but Tubridy is making no attempt to mask his bias, constantly interrupting him. Very poor. #LateLate
— Leigh Bergin (@LeighB96) November 2, 2018
Wow! Never usually tweet, but that was an appalling biased interview by Ryan Tubridy. Regardless of personal opinions, shouldn’t journalism be fair? You finished well #petercasey #latelate #rte #LateLateShow
— Susan Grant (@susangrant77) November 2, 2018
Not Ryan Tubridy’s finest hour. I think this interview has played right into Casey’s hands. He will have garnered sympathy and consolidated support from Tubridy’s mishandling and obvious antipathy. #latelate
— Bridin O Connor (@bridinoc) November 3, 2018
Yer da thinks Peter Casey was ambushed on #Latelate tonight
— Robert Purfield (@robertpurfield) November 3, 2018
#latelate #latelateshow @RTELateLateShow abdicated all responsibility for promoting hatred by inviting on a proven bigot, failed to comprehensively challenge him, & then left it up to those he targets to mop up the mess. Well done @katiesunshine26, but it shouldn't work this way. https://t.co/P7nPQMCiua

Tubs showing just how much of a hard chaw he is…
You want to know a prime example of the hypocrisy of the Irish media ?
The cause of the “sudden” death of John Reynolds.
Not a scintilla of speculation about it anywhere.
If he’d been a scumbag and not a member of the Reynolds family the media would have been all over it.
They look after their own.
Sometimes you surprise me with your wit and humour.
Othertimes you astound me with how much of a moron you are.
This time it’s the latter.
Like Bwitains manufacturing industry he’s fresh out of ideas..
Do tell us about Ireland’s vibrant manufacturing industry …
* chortles *
Ireland’s manufacturing industry is doing very well.
Tubridy did the same with Jim Corr in 2011. In fact is was way worse.
I don’t remember anybody complaining about that back then.
Tubridy to Producer: “And get a guy in the audience to call him an anti-semite.”
Producer to Tubridy: “I’ll call Harry Browne now.”
@Ollie – Heart attack. Happy now?
Tubridy performed a terrible interview, and rudely shut down the audience’s intelligent questions, after possibly 1.5 questions! He actually brought the show back again to a celebrity-style fire-on-questions for clap effect, which is where it began right after Robinson, but had temporary reprieve during McWilliams. There is no doubt that Casey is an empty vessel – but he received 20% of the nation’s vote, so he has a voice in this democracy, and his advisors have pushed him into political territory – you could see the giddy excitement in Casey’s eyes – like when the teacher gave Johnny the slow lad down the back a lead role of donkey in the nativity play.
Watching the Late Late was difficult – did it for Robbo and forgot to turn it off.
He received 23% of the half the vote. Abysmal turnout because of abysmal campaign by candidates including Peter Casey. I don’t understand why RTE is cheer leading for him. Lots of politicians with a much better share of the electorate get a fraction of the air space.
I don’t think you understand how elections work. This isn’t about how many votes he got though, it’s just because you disagree with his views. Luckily you don’t get to decide what the rest of us get to see.
Your right. filthy politicians decide what we get to see. nothing to see here. move along
By that measure we’d give no airtime to pbp/aaa or maybe even the shinners.
Casey is an idiot, in order to show that he needs to be let speak so he can effectively be dismantled.
If someone can’t be beaten by argument then that usually means they are right. It’s very easy to beat Casey and that should be the purpose of panels and debates, rather than being driven by twitter.
Show me a journalist or broadcaster who isn’t primarily influenced by twitter these days. It’s depressing.
That’s just not how it works any more, if it ever really did. A debate with a stupid person with bad ideas just means that the stupidity and bad ideas get mainstreamed, normalised, spread around further and further. Casey got 20% of the presidential vote because of a throwaway comment on a local radio station. Now the national media is swinging between ‘he’s only saying what everyone’s thinking’ and ‘how dare you suggest that they voted for him because he said what they were thinking.’ Modern media is not equipped to deal with this sort of thing. Ryan Tubridy sure as hell isn’t.
I heard Katie Hannon on rte yesterday spinning that casey’s 23% of the vote was actually a “protest” against the government rather than agreement with casey’s views. It appears that even rte is desperate to show that there is no racism in Ireland, dream on, Ireland is the same as everywhere else.
+1 Harry
He is, like Trump, an empty vessel. He’s also inarticulate, and thinks about issues just as they come into his mind, and then proceeds to mutter, stumble and stutter his way through them. Most of what he was rambling about last night was completely off the wall.
I thought you were describing the old age pensioners that comment on this site everyday.
Thundering disgrace is what tubrity is, the small t.
Peter Casey never had a chance to answer. Rte, the small t, and the producer set him up. It appears the way tickets are dispatched by Rte is suspect but that’s nothing new.
I happened to hear Tubridy on his radio show yesterday morning – first time ever. In usual RTE fashion he was doing a promo for that night’s LLS. He mentioned all the guests to feature but his disdain for Casey was evident a mile off. As was his craven obsequiousness to Robbo whom he mentioned wasn’t fully appreciated here. Nothing a museum in her honour, say in Ballina, wouldn’t address.
He was also blowing smoke up the ass of fellow spoofer and ‘rock alumnus, McWilliams.
A talentless creep.
I tuned in to Have I Got News for You then Neeson for Walk Among the Tombstones…
I missed the car crash on RTE1…. good.
Sounds like it was painful, yet it was predicted on here by some to be so, in fairness like ;0)
Oh, and there was this…
“Had a chat with Peter Casey in the hallway of RTE. After the general chit chat I asked him what should be done about people living in direct provision. His response… what’s that? Good night.” Jennifer Zamparelli
https://twitter.com/JenniferMaguire/status/1058510841430138880?s=19
Take a look at Didn’t Happen of the Year Awards (@_DHOTYA): https://twitter.com/_DHOTYA?s=09
Judging by the comments in that twitter feed, it wasn’t a case of ‘Oh, and there was this…’. Rather that what she says happened, did not actually happen.
Judging by the comments and DHOTYA…. LOL!
So, a case of…. “I’ll see your ‘she said’, by what ‘some randomer said’.”
…Jaysus ye play a tough game lads, me hoop :0p’
Thanks for the giggle though.
So Peter Casey is ‘some randomer’ in that twitter feed?. No wonder Jesus spends a lot of his time crying over you :-)
Ah fair enough, he hadn’t replied when I posted last night.
Thanks though, that you’d think Jesus would cry for me, that’s quite touching.
I’d even go further and say, fupp Jennifer and her feckin’ lies the bleedin’ knob end!
Talking of lies one of the “victims” who accused Trump-nominated Supreme Court Judge Kavanaugh of raping her has admitted making everything up.
Great timing for Trump in the midterms along with the migrant caravan.
Going to be tight.
I believe you. You are so trustworthy and honest. Pity this has to compete with that comic/horrifying right-wing effort to fake up a rape accusation against Mueller. Just in time for the Midterms, too.
Anyone under investigation for it yet Thought not ….
Hahahaha
“Talking of lies one of the “victims” who accused Trump-nominated Supreme Court Judge Kavanaugh of raping her has admitted making everything up.”
Pollie, I’m sure you can post some links to this story.
Sure.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2018/11/02/brett-kavanaugh-accuser-referred-fbi-doj-investigation/1863210002/
Not that you read much about it in the liberal American media.
Sure.Google is your friend.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2018/11/02/brett-kavanaugh-accuser-referred-fbi-doj-investigation/1863210002/
Not that you read much about it in the liberal American media.
That’s it….come on pollie you can do better than that.
You asked me to substantiate my post.
I did.
What else do you require ?
The truth is someone wrote an anonymous letter containing an accusation and someone else falsely claimed to have written it. The person who lied never made the original accusation and it has not be shown to be false.
Disliked Ryan Tubridy’s attitude to Peter Casey. It felt like there was no respect. He was being pressured to answer questions without getting the time to answer. I personally would like to hear more from him.
Casey is a RICH empty vessel. The ordinary people of Ireland owe Casey nothing .
Tubridy must be after Pat Kenny’s jobeen in Noosetalk
The comparisons with the attacks by the Establishment media on Nigel Farage are obvious – although Nigel is one of the foremost political orators of his generation and much more able to defend himself than Casey.
At the early stage of a rise in popularity of a fringe candidate the media is scornful but when that popularity is transformed into real votes they become worried and crank up the vitriol.
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you then they attack you – it’s the oldest play in the game.
It’s okay to be dismissive of 23% of 20% but that was from virtually nothing in a matter of days.
Translate that into 23% and more of a general election turnout and suddenly it’s a very different picture.
Casey has the beginnings of a momentum that could seriously disrupt national politics and tap into the distrust and suspicion many people have of the Dublin political/media bubble.
Over the coming weeks expect the hacks to pour over Casey’s private and business life as well as everything he’s ever said and written to find any juicy morsel with which to attack him.
I may be wrong – and the weekend he took off in the campaign to ” reflect ” makes me question his resilience under fire – but Casey may have accidentally stumbled onto something very, very interesting.
Rural island is essentially very conservative and feels left behind. The Traveller issue is a symptom not a cause of their anger.
But what he has to do is widen his political perspective and not be defined by a single issue.
And he needs skilled political operators behind him.
We’ll see.
Nah,he wants the BBC gig.
Bigger exposure,better money.
Trouble is he doesn’t have Wogan’s intelligence or charm.
He’s a poundshop Henry Kelly.
A pound shop Henry Kelly…..
best description ever of that narra little poo.
Lol – I laugh at people who turn on RTÉ except for the GAA and expect anything other than utter trash.
Check yourselves
I still find it embarrassing for my Irish chums when I ask why in 21st century multi-cultural and multi-faith Ireland the Angelus is still broadcast
Nice solid images of middle-aged,white rural folk cleaning polishing and baking suddenly pausing to look into the middle distance like some subservient gombeen.
It’s like stepping back into a bygone era.
No wonder the EU has Ireland like a puppy with a ball of string.
You’d be thinking of a kitten i believe. Puppies play with their noo noos.
Good.
Fair play Tubs.
I thought they were both awful.
Tubridy is a Overpaid Populist Waffler whose Pay should be Halved, While Everyone Professes to Demand Social Justice, What about Economic Justice, Tubridy and his Equals who are Living Off Us, will not say Anything about That
True dat.
Recent event in Galway right outside the new Garda HQ
https://youtu.be/2rBq805SCGk
but they are given an unfair rep
Peter Casey Whatsapped that to me earlier.
I’ve seen 9 year old girls fight better than those two fine specimens. Is this a spoof video?
You could see that type of behaviour by so-called settled people outside many take-aways on a week-end night.
It’s their culture.
I would argue that non-Travellers would tend not to bring their kids along.
Those kids were cheering and laughing, they have been normalised to this type of barbaric behaviour; there is a fair chance that they will act like this when they grow up, too, and thus the vicious circle continues.
Nigel has chosen to see what he wants to see. Travellers are not the problem, it is the ‘settled people’ that are the problem.
No, ArmaLite you have chosen to hear what you want to hear and then repeat it as if word for word, bearing false witness. That’s okay. It’s your culture. Boss.
Those settled people that are driving past staring at the travellers, fighting shirtless in the middle of the day? They are the problem. Right. Of course.
That’s gas
Jesus – what hope is there for the poor kids in that situation?
Your deluded lol
*You’re
In what way?
Tubs, the archetypical, greater than tho, arrogant to the point of ignorance, PC social justice, champagne socialist. Oh how he wanted to be man of the people to the down trodden tonight. His real world detachment from the reality of the great unwashed and the washed on a shoestring shows how off the boil that is. The car crash interview which showed him up to be acting like nothing more than a scorned teenage girl competes the insult to us the general public. People tuned in to see the dismantling of a “head banger” and instead witnesed the meltdown of a so called professional. Casey might well be a racist, xenophobic, populist spouting lunatic but that display of ineptitude from one of our most highly paid employees of the exchequer certainly wont show that up. He (Tubridy) represents everything ironically he was attempting to rail against. To use a football analogy this was Ryan’s Kevin Keegan moment.
Well said WBR…. I watched some of the interview since last night, and this comment sums up what I saw very well.
Well said.
Casey might well be a racist, xenophobic, populist spouting lunatic
I actually don’t think he is. he just engages mouth before brain. The whole I will take FF over lacks tact to the point of stupidity and the media are building him up to be the Irish Trump but, if he had to be given a chance to explain himself last night, people would have seen him for what he really is. But that wouldn’t have suited the agenda now would it?
And just on a positive note, Mary Robinson is some woman, now she was a REAL president.
What you have is the RTE view of the country and its people which is out touch with reality
There is little point in attacking Casey for the vote he got on a low turn out, if opinion polls
were taken on a couple of days before the election, it would have shown that he was a lot
more popular than the Dublin Media realized, what they cant accept now that over 20% of
the electorate voted for him….so he has to be eliminated before he gets more support and
popularity, the goings on last night reminds one of the attack on Gerry Adams on a late
late show……all this reflects that those who run and control RTE are biased where an
expressed opinion fails to conform with their view of things
There is need to establish an independent broadcasting organisation and take the licence
fee away from them, they have been operating from 1962 and its about time they stood on
their own two feet….there have been a large herd of overpaid presenters over the years
its time we got rid of them,,,,,talk is cheap,,,,but the RTE version of it somewhat expensive:
Indeed.
I find it bizarre that not only does RTE get funded by the licence fee it commercially sells ads too.
What you have is a state broadcaster in bed with and hock to the politicians.
Hard-hitting investigations are virtually non-existent and successive generations of politicians have been able to get away with fraud, ineptitude and corruption.
RTE’s job is to toe the line.
And it performs its duties obediently.
A very small fish in a very small pond,he wouldn’t get the light of day in the UK.As a proud Irish man I was embarrassed by him.By the way Casey is right about tinkers. It’s a choice, but that’s not to say that they don’t have a hard time.
I got so embarrassed for Casey. He’s a walking disaster.
The comparisons with the attacks by the Establishment media on Nigel Farage are obvious – although Nigel is one of the foremost political orators of his generation and much more able to defend himself than Casey.

‘And he needs skilled political operators behind him.’
Oh yes, it’ll take all the efforts of a Steve Bannon and a Cambridge Analytica and a few fellow plutocrats channeling billions to make another populist racist with the brain of a dish-rag into a viable politician.
Ollie Cromwell,Nigel Farage is exactly like lot of politicians,he doesn’t like to be asked hard questions.During a radio interview not so long ago his “advisor”had to intervene and get him away from a live interview.Just yesterday he cut somebody off on his radio show for daring to question what he was saying about how the leave eu was funded. As the papers here remarked not very good “talk radio”.
Nigel is full of sound bites but very little else.Just like Boris and his cohorts, the shine is starting to wear off.
They have been found out and only the hard of thinking take any notice.Nigel refuses to be interviewed on certain radio stations in London. Why do think that is Ollie?
Ah,here comes Abbott virtue-signalling for all he’s worth.
Can’t be long before Costello pops up.
Farage was a political phenomenon, building UKIP up from nothing with very little money and just the persuasive power of great oratory.
Without Farage there would be no Brexit – he is the most successful British politician of his time.
Decent no nonsense feller too.
Likes a pint.
Hagiography.
Psephology.
Normal politicians with real support don’t need zealots ridiculously over-praising them. Ones propped up by right-wing propaganda machines do. Dead giveaway. Also the way they are obvious frauds and con-men.
You mean like George Osborne ?
Farage led the biggest grassroots campaign in recent British history, spooked the Tories into promising a referendum and who are now obliged to deliver it.
Farage is box office.
His life’s work is nearly done.
https://interactive.news.sky.com/2017/brexit-countdown/
Oh my God imagine having to toady to Farage.
Says the man with a photo of Mother Theresa tucked into his hair shirt.
The day I get as obsequious as you do about any politician is the day the worms will have finally eaten my brain.
The worms would still be hungry after their meal ….
But you still wouldn’t have anything to worry about from them.
Farage building Ukip up from nothing,to where ? oh Ollie still nothing.Still no MP in parliament, and the couple they had were resignations from the Tories,And who soon went independent.Nigel himself contested 2 bye-elections and 5 general elections, and the “political phenomenom”as you called him got zilch nana nothing. You can fool some of the people some of the time but can’t ………. Nigel a great salesman but devoid of any original thinking.
No mention of Peter Casey’s bizarre proposal to build some massive camp for travellers in the Phoenix park despite the fact that he claims he doesn’t think travellers should be treated differently? Isn’t that treating them differently?
So sick of these dopes who say Peter Casey is saying what “everyone” is thinking. Too thick to understand that not everyone is thick.
You’re obviously an intellectual yourself.
Didn’t stay in Friday night.
As if the only alternative to going out were to succumb to this pile of poo.
Everybody chill… light the fire or turn up the heat, make a bowl of ice cream and strawberries with a drizzle of honey, and sure crumble a Cadbury’s flake over it…
The Princess Bride is about to start on Film 4.
Just missed it.

I reckon Casey could use a spad who’s conversant in Irish ways & means alongside irrational behaviours ?? I’ll be available on Monday if Regina gives me all clear @ 7’30 am ( Check-in time ) It would be marvellous restorative therapy which shall tie in nicely with my work alongside suffering addicts & I’d be sure that Regina;’s fine department shall pick up the TAB if Peter is worried about oceanic transfers of raw cash ??
Spad? Or pal?
The European WTF mountain doesn’t have enough WTF stored to supply this extract from Casey’s oeuvre.
This guy is from Derry, the most left wing city in Ireland. When he did get a chance to speak, what did he say?
That money was being wrongly spent in welfare and that hospitals, PUBLIC hospitals should get priority, and that all third level education should be free. This is text book SDLP folks. He also said that travellers should be invited to stay in Phoenix park for a period of up to five years to avail of education.
IMO those who are looking for an Irish Trump or Farage are barking up the wrong tree. He is clumsy and at times not very articulate but there is no right wing agenda at play. Still, it proves how those happy with the status quo are determined to slap down any dissension.
Now Late Late, do your job and invite the only potential presidential candidate who was blocked. I am pretty sure Gemma O’Doherty will accept.
Casey gives the impression of someone who will let himself be shaped and moulded by public responses to his half-formed utterances in trying to chase down a set of political principles, as opposed to Trump’s killer instinct in going after whatever savagery will feed his base. As some canny commenter said his ultimate natural home would be a George Hook/Ivan Yates type slot on Newstalk.
Someone who will let himself be shaped and moulded by public responses to his half-formed utterances in trying to chase down a set of political principles
SF fifteen years ago so, apart from the nationalism obviously.
I thought Casey had a few scoops before he came on. Nothing he said was in anyway coherent.
Tubridy seemed like his usual cringe inducing self. He’s for the fupping birds.. he can’t let people finish a fupping sentence. It’s very frustrating to watch. like shut the fupp up & let people answer your inane questions.
Fair dues to Tubbs. Don’t watch the Late Late or RTE regardless of the amount of RTE PR that Bodger publishes on the behalf of the Donnybrook Canteen Set, but from what I heard from two aul wans on Cavistons in Glasthule he put some ignorant boor of an Irish Northerner ex-pat, non- Irish tax paying, hail-fellow, well-met “self-made man” in his place.
Aye. You know where to go next time you need guidance on voting issues. Glasthule. Did you get the all wans numbers?
ethnicity
noun
the fact or state of belonging to a social group that has a common national or cultural tradition.
It may not be articulated very well but I see Peter Casey’s point. By the above definition, perhaps members of Sinn Fein or Fine Gael should gain ethnic recognition. If that became the case and you opposed, for example, the behaviours of Sinn Fein and the like, does that make you a racist too? There are negative associations attached to every grouping in society. Be it the clergy, political parties, Rome Gypsies, Travellers, Twitter users, pro/anti abortion groups. Whether you are born into these groupings or not is besides the point. The fact of the matter is it is the behaviour of Travellers as an ethnic minority that gains negative attention. Whose fault is it that the positive attributes of their culture are not promoted? And is it the case that the negative aspects of their culture and often law-breaking traditions outweigh the positives? Calling out negative influences of a group on society is not racism when it is true. What about the anti-woman trait and homophobia engrained in the Muslim faith? Is it wrong for a politician to speak openly about this, or would that make them racist too? Had Casey called out the treatment of women and gay people in the Travelling community what would the knee-jerk liberals have done then? He didn’t do that though. He pointed to the stereotypes of not paying taxes and taking other people’s land, etc. One man’s ‘nasty’ stereotype though is another’s valid truism.
Calling out negative influences of a group on society is not racism when it is true but, when that group is one if not the most marginalised in society, criticism will resonate most with those who have a prejudice in the first place. And the same could be said of the Muslims of course.
I personally do not have an issue with travellers having a separate ethnic status because it means a lot to them and it doesn’t affect me in any shape or form. But, I also agree with Peter Casey when he says that traveller education is the key.
