The Financial Times’ relentless shredding of its reputation continues.
No doubt it’s an interesting story but the lead in an internationally-respected financial publication ?
Brexit Derangement Syndrome has convulsed it.

      1. Ollie Cromwell

Did you ever find evidence about the Ford and Mini factories in the UK which you claimed we’re on 3-day weeks ?
Or was it just Fake News ?

        1. jusayinlike

Ford/Mini plants, all staff on protective notice, all contract negotiations are suspended. Both plants to close without a deal. Nissan and Toyota to follow.

          40,000 job losses.

          JLR plant, 3 day week.
Crap English designers and a weak effort at selling cars in US and China, coupled with uncertainty over you know what means they’re on the brink of closure with a loss of 4000 jobs.

          Dry your deranged eyes m8.

          1. Ollie Cromwell

So the Ford and Mini plants are not on a 3-day week as you alleged ?
Just admit you got it wrong and save yourself the embarrassment at trying to wriggle out of being caught out.
Copy and paste ” I apologise for my lame attempt at Fake News and admit I made up the 3-day week story.”

        2. Ollie Cromwell

Not enough guts to admit you made it up
          Poor show.
Makes every other post of yours to be of doubtful credence.
You got caught out I’m afraid.

          1. jusayinlike

            Semantics.

When the 40,000 jobs are disintegrated, will you still whinge over the 3 day week?

I’m fairly sure all those workers would gladly take the 3 day week instead of closure and food rations.

Ireland, if we haven’t already, should offer asylum to Asia Bibi and her family and insist that Pakistan allow them to travel freely. It would be fitting, given our vote to remove blasphemy from the constitution. Especially as it was used as a weapon to persecute her for something she didn’t do or say.

Delighted those Ryanair flight crew clowns who stunted up the sleeping on the floor image have been sacked.
Taking advantage of transport chaos caused by bad weather to paint the company that pays your wages in a bad light is despicable.
They’ll probably get a job at British Airways – the worst European airline for comfort, reliability and customer service.

      1. MaryLou's ArmaLite

They faked an image to manipulate public perception in a row with their employer. They got what they deserved.

  4. giggidygoo

Brian Hayes suddenly realizes that he hasn’t a hope of being re-elected to anything, and opts to become gamekeeper turned poacher. A lobbyist for the banks.

      1. giggidygoo

No one said he’s running away. He’s staying, but on the other side of the fence (supposedly), and will hope to train in lobbying skills in order to get the Bankers better deals from the state. The ex ‘not very successful’ Junior Finance fellow.
But he knows that his game is up as a politician.

      2. Vanessa off the Telly

        @MaryLou’s Arm
All the more reason that his last count was to his shame

He was well short of the quota
And only beat Eamon Ryan by the hairs if his chinny chin chin
        The Shin Lynn hammered him
Even Nessa Childers out polled him

He was a beaten docket then
So it would have been a painful election for him if he put himself in front of us again

        Having said that
Fair play t’him for getting that Bankers Gig

Pity the Democrats couldn’t have taken both houses but still, it is progress. They don’t appear to have a leader these days which they badly need in order to counter Trump’s persona. A high turnout on both sides proves how divided the US is these days of course.

Facebook appear to be much more proactive too, with the help of the FBI it appears.

Earlier on Monday, numerous federal agencies, including the FBI, wrote a joint statement alerting Americans to the fact that “foreign actors—and Russia in particular—continue to try to influence public sentiment and voter perceptions through actions intended to sow discord.”

The thing iss the Senate seats that Drumpf campaigned for – won. That means they are his creatures now.

      1. Vanessa off the Telly

        This

        However Same’oh is right
There is no leader within the Democratic Party
        And until one presents
They will continue to struggle Nationally and in the larger Senate and Governor electoral districts

    2. Nigel

Holding onto the Senate was the lowest possible bar for Republicans so obviously Trump will declare it a resounding victory. Democrats are now going to have to govern like grown-ups so lots of Trump tantrums forthcoming but so what? Man’s a walking tantrum. Expect two years of him keeping his base in a frenzy. So more of the same, really.

        1. Cranky Pants

The Dims have just had a classic Pyrrhic victory. They may have taken the House, but at what cost? How much money did they spend only to have to do it all again in two years?

Senators, on the other hand, sit for six years. The Republicans increased their Senate majority all the while shaking out old (compromised) republican incumbents. The Senate controls the SCOTUS nomination process. (Trump probably has at least two more picks.)

How much money did Beta – the pretend Latino – spend in Texas only to fail to unseat Ted Cruz?

Buckle up Buttercups, the ride to 2020 will be awesome.

          1. topsy

Democrats “Superstar” O’ Rourke spent $19 million but couldn’t beat so Cruz. (lol) He then proceeded to drop profanities in his speech. Class act is Beta.

          2. Nigel

O’Rourke made a close run in a state that hasn’t had a serious Dem chance in thirty years. I’d be scared of him, and of more people like him threatening once-solid Red states, if I were them, too.

          3. Nigel

Yes, it seems his fund-raising game was spectacular, and correct me if I’m wrong but apparently he didn’t rely on those superPAC things or corporate donors, either? Inspiring, I’m sure.

          4. topsy

Nigel. Three other of your shining stars also got trounced , Abrams, Kobach & Gillum.
So much for the neo liberal bullpoo.

          5. Vanessa off the Telly

            One thing about Cruz
            he’s a savage campaigner

no matter what and no matter how much
            70 bar? Seriously?
he was always going to be hard bate

            Ye don’t have’ta like him
            I don’t
            Ha
But you have to hand it to him
He’s one of the best campaigners in American Politics

          6. Nigel

Cruz was coasting complacently in a safe Red seat and almost got within a whisker of being ousted by a first-timer that came out of nowhere and whose supporters washed lots of dems into state legislatures. Talk about a pyrrhic victory. Why do you think we’ve got this spin about him losing and spending that money? A dem losing in Texas shouldn’t be news, and a dem raising that much money to challenge a safe seat must be terrifying for reps.

          7. Ollie Cromwell

O’Rourke played down the fact that his wife is a billionaire heiress and that his father-in-law,a real estate tycoon worth €20billion,has a somewhat contentious history with non-white residents.
Not that any of this frightful business is ever mentioned by the fawning liberal US media.

          8. Nigel

Aw, bless, reduced to crowing about narrow victories in once-safe seats and whining about the librul meeja and that decisively losing the House is a Big Win For The Donald.

          9. Nigel

And Cruz played down the fact that he is a lizard in a human skin-suit, so i suppose he has that going for him.

          10. Ollie Cromwell

Jaysus, you follow me around like a sick puppy and when I occasionally toss you a biscuit you claim you’re being stalked.
Cheer up old sport. There’s plenty more Brexit and Trump coming to unnerve you.
            Hehx3.

      1. Ollie Cromwell

With the Republicans on course to add key Senate seats and now having a 78-year-old crone widely disliked by her own party as his main adversary Trump has every reason to be cheerful this morning.
He increases his hold in the Senate, loses by a moderate amount in the House. Anti-Trump Republicans were picked off. Pro-Trump candidates largely succeeded. And he’s already in full campaigning mode for re-election in 2020 and the Dems still have no stand-out presidential candidate emerging.
So what can the majority House Dems now do ? Demand Trump’s tax returns ? Mueller has had them for months.
        Impeachment ? Needs a two-thirds Senate majority.
Oppose Trump’s economic reforms and successes ? Plays right into his hands.
        It’s SHOWTIME for the Donald.

  6. Ron

I’d imagine all the usual know it alls on here are quite disappointed Trump did so well in the mid terms…

    1. ReproButina

Trump has said he wants to undo the work of Reagan and Gorbachev and build up the US’s nuclear arsenal again. The man’s a lunatic.

    2. Donker

Topsy, you reek of ‘first year at a trading desk’, have you finished Liars Poker yet? Was it everything the lads said it would be?

      1. topsy

Hi Donker, it’s dreadful when things do go as you would like. All the liberal media crap dose’nt change the fact that the people of America did not turn their backs on Trump.
Shining Demo stars O’ Rourke, Abrams, Kobach & Gillum all got smacked down by the PEOPLE. By the way I won’t be responding to any further comments as I’m off to play a round of golf. The greens will be nice and receptive after last night’s rain.

  7. Vanessa off the Telly

    So Lucinda then
I did wonder who’d run in place of Brian

    Meh

Anyway, funny news day for the Poppy crowd there

    Well there’s a surprise
The Irish Times runs the angle on Irish voters reactions in America and didn’t print any who voted Republican even though one Democrat admitted large numbers of Irish Americans do.
Truly The Guardian of Ireland with equally horrendous plunges in print circulation.

    1. Brother Barnabas

if the Irish Times was “the Guardian of Ireland”, it would be faring a lot better than it is – it’s a great pity it isn’t an irish guardian

you’re not wrong about irish americans, though – among the most deplorable of the deplorables. it’s always been the case, though. another pity.

      1. The Old Boy

The quality of commentary in the Irish Times compares favourably to that in the Guardian, even if it is mediocre-to-fair versus mediocre-to-lamentable.

    1. Brother Barnabas

      no shame

irish americans mean zilch to me (in truth, find them all terribly phucking annoying)
