Why are so many men in Ireland killing themselves? It’s a hard question to ask and an even harder one to answer. Suicide awareness and prevention should be a regular topic of conversation until we can learn how to heal ourselves.

One of the best ways to start this conversation is to come together as men and embark on a journey of self discovery through the practice of yoga.

While this workshop will offer some physical challenges, it will also allow personal expansion to recognise our strength as men. Through self-study and mindful movement, a man can recalibrate his priorities, his relationships, and his well-being.

The event will include a relatively strong physical practice (with modifications), a brief lecture, discussion, and breathing techniques.

This event is only open to men.

Why? Like it or not, if you ask the average man on the street about yoga he will tell you that it’s a female pastime. Some men feel embarrassed about bending over in front of a bunch of women. Trust me, I felt this way too once!

        aw man. I had a nice bubble butt when I was doing pilates and yoga all the time. I miss that. it’s back to white girl a55 these days.

    I heard if a man starts doing yoga it is the first step on his journey toward becoming a complete silly.

    So go ahead and do this if you want to hang out with other lads crying. Real men never cry, perhaps at the news of the death of a great sportman.

    good idea. as anyone who’s ever tried yoga before, when you start you get a wicked dose of the farts. and it is NEVER cool to fart in front of the ladies. lads are different. i’ve often seen another bloke and walked faster than him to overtake him and THEN fart when i know he’s behind me.

      yoga stressed me out, you’re there thinking of everything you’re not getting done,
      I’ll stick to the running to destress,
      I think some of us need to be in motion to relax

        I used to have a boyfriend like that. Turned out he was ‘relaxing’ with more than me. I needed new mugs and plates anyways.

      I have a friend who is into it. She does exactly that, the more wound up she is, the more yoga classes she attends.

      A gym trainer of mine a couple of years ago was adamant that yoga was hard core and she should know, she played rugby in her spare time. I never asked f it was with women or men, I expect that knowing her, it was the latter.

        It can be. There’s Bikram or sweaty yoga where you do it in a heated room, and the moves are run through at a “pace”. Also at pace is Vinyasa… I don’t like either of those yoga styles. Probably because I can’t keep up :)

        Iyengar is slow, the one I started learning with, with a focus on holding the poses longer than other variants. Ashtanga yoga is very similar.
        Both have an emphasis on breathing that I like while holding the poses…. to be honest I really can’t tell the difference between those two, but I find their slow pace suit me.

        There are other more vigorous styles, but they’re not for me :) Probably the styles your friend was into.
        I go for the stretching and breathing, not the work out, if ya get me.
