Harry Burton and his nomination (top) for Political Cartoon of the Year
Cartoonist Harry Burton, whose work appears in The Times Ireland edition, has been shortlisted for ‘Political Cartoon of the Year’ presented annually by the UK’s Political Cartoon Society for his Eight Amendment voting day offering.
He faces pencil stiff competition from some of Britain’s top cartoonists.
You can vote for Harry here.
Meanwhile…
Harry’s cartoon in the Times Ireland edition this morning.
Thanks Richard

He’ll sweep the boards at the virtue signalling awards
So is calling out “virtue signalling” itself a form of virtue signalling?
If it is I must be so so brave. #Believeme
Comment deleted?
No, calling out “virtue signaling” is “incapable of empathy signaling”
‘Virtue signalling’ is slang used by people who think doing the right thing is SO booooring.
Ouch, zingy stingy girlfriend.
Get in the car, loser, we’re going virtue signalling.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever adored you more Nigel.
Is the covered in “powered by fairy dust” stickers? I won’t get in if it isn’t.
Powered by hope, wokeness and cinnamon buns.
Where is the Sketch of the little baby’s hand clutching on for life? 33% of the votes were not for repealing, they seem to not count though. I don’t see the vote being cast with “I just wanted to wear the Repeal jumper” there though.
No such vote existed, that’s why.
Oh but they did.
Ah, because you said so. Right.
Lol. Get a grip, you wally.
The storm troopers are on their way…
Where as your ballot was “I just wanted to control women because I don’t like them.”
As soon as I hear alt right buzz words like ‘virtue signalling’ I light a candle in my place of worship (the pub*) to all those spermatozoa the user of such word, deposits into a empty sports socks on a colossal scale with the overly frequent onanism.
(Barman says that if I light one more tea light on the bar and I’m out.)

Where the hell have you been? We were here with our differing opinions acting as if we live in a free society where freedom of speech is valued. Thank God you’ve arrived to right out wrongs.
Freedom of speech is valued? How, by labeling anything that you dislike as ‘virtue signalling’?
Poor triggered snowflake.
A lie down after 3 hail marys will sort you right out.
You’re the one getting bent out of shape about it sweetie pie. Go get a soy latte and a few drops of rescue remedy. You’re so so brave.
Such originality.
Bet the ref result was a bitter brew to swallow. What is the world coming to and all that.
I bet things were better in your heyday too.
I’m not bitter at all. The eight amendment needed to be repealed, I do think we threw the baby out with the bath water to a degree but hey, if there’ll be less entitled Sjw’s in the world a result of abortions then maybe its a good thing.
Yeah, Because no women voted No. What was there excuse? They love to be controlled? Amazing how your defense always is anyone who voted No wanted to control women. People voted no for various reasons, and an awful lot of People voted yes because it was the trendy thing to do, but hey let’s pretend they were all liberatibg women.
Ya know Drizzle
There was none of that indignation from the 33% that voted against installing the effin’ amendment back in ’83
Or anything like it from the thousands that had to travel
What d’ye of that for a bitta virtue signalling
The indignation against the 83 referendum built into the repeal movement. You know the one with the fascist style jumpers you may possibly own one of?
Facist style? Think you’re getting a bit over excited there hun
Large groups of people dressed in black silencing people with differing opinions, Catholic Church, fascists or repeal campaigners?
I think you’re taking that analogy just a touch too far.
The *majority* of people who voted for repeal were the everyday electorate. But sure, let’s stereotype everyone who voted for repeal as a jumper wearing fascist.
Haha the real fascists are the ones who engaged in a ground-level nationwide democratic campaign? The fascists kicked in doors and dragged people out on the street, the Repealers knocked on doors and handed out leaflets the Catholic Church sold babies and used women as slave labour the Repealers knitted some jumpers IT’S BASICALLY THE SAME! Duuuuude has it ever occurred to you that as a point of view this isn’t silenced, just stupid?
You lost me at duuude. Also I’m not sure what doors were kicked in and I’m pretty sure those jumpers are more of the maquiladora style sweat shop production type than knitted at home ethically sourced types.
You;re not sure what doors were kicked in? Duuuuuuude.
Sorry I misread your post. Probably because I’m such a backwards woman hating misogynist.
Just say ‘wrong’ it’s shorter and more forgiving.
OK duuude. Totally radical and tubular.
Are we having a Bill and Ted-off and I wasn’t invited?
Bodacious, bro.
Could’ah been worse
Nullz
We could’ah been holding up posters the size of a studio flat outside the maternities
Or sending people out to impersonate medical professionals
I missed the bit when I said I supported that stuff. You missed the bit when I said the eight needed to be repealed.
I know I know, it’s easier to put me in the Iona institute box and live I a fantasy world where identity politics hold sway over your woke buddies.
Back in reality land people have different opinions and shades of grey exist. Also being a presumptuous condescending bore doesn’t automatically win arguments.
Have a wonderful afternoon, treat yourself to something sweet and put your feet up.
“being a presumptuous condescending bore…”
….
I love that you include me in with the ‘Woke’ Generation
You’ve made my day
For @Nullz btw
“There was none of that indignation from the 33% that voted against installing the effin’ amendment back in ’83”
Are you actually having a laugh?
So how many *challenges to the ’83 result did you count Row?
*By petitioning the HC
Harry is a major, major talent. I see his stuff in Private Eye now. He deserves an even bigger audience. Lost count of the number of cartoons in the Times Ireland which have really hit the nail on the head for their composition and narrative; they often combine a number of topics in such a clever way, some of them are so impactful they bring tears to your eye . He also has an uncanny talent to capture personal physical characteristics. You mightn’t always agree with the message, but you can’t mistake the genius.
@Nullzero – double espresso and an hpv vaccine for me and thanks, sweetie pie.
Although considering how I had to type this while looking through my fingers, I don’t think you can call me brave.
Sure the cat ‘triggers’ me when it wakes me up in the morning.
And I don’t even own a cat!
I didn’t think you’d have to get up in the morning being so woke.
You’re about 2 posts away from linking to a Jordan Peterson video.
You are just so sweet. I’m going to send you a fruit basket.
I’ll leave you the grapes.
Thanks but I’m sour enough already supposedly
They’re like a veritable bullpoop buzzword bingo.
Surprised each post isn’t finished off with Sad!
Sorry to disappoint you.
So far I’m a far right staunch Catholic and now a trump supporter.
I’d hate to see your little face when you read the next bit, I’m an atheist and I think trump is a clown.
Tey another pigeon hole.
At least we now know where a certain gentleman

It’s been fun but I have to get back to my job in patriarchy towers. Those white male privilege cards don’t issue themselves.
