The Last Chatter

at

Did you stay up?

A big thank you to clockwise from top left: Seamus Maye, Olga Cronin, Johnny Keenan, Neil Curran, Vanessa Foran, Ciaran Tierney, Neil Curran, ‘Preposterous’ and Gemma O’Doherty (right) & Julie Grace, our panel on last night’s Broadsheet on the Telly.

The show, produced by Neil, can be viewed in its entirety above.

Gemma, Seamus and Julie joined us live from the Change Makers anti-corruption public meeting in Galway where talks about a new political movement were developed.

Ciaran brought the EU Army into our Brexit debate (expanding on his blog post here) and with Vanessa, Johnny and Olga shared views on the Maurice McCabe documentary.

A little light swearing

Sadly, this will be the last Broadsheet on the Telly.

We would like thank all our panellists for giving their time and sharing their thoughts about Ireland over the past 18 months or so.

And thank you to everyone who watched the show. We could probably thank you all individually, such were our figures, and we may do so now we’ve ‘freed up’ Thursday nights.

But we hope our experience has not dented the idea of this format as a viable platform for different voices. It’s very simple and you could do a much smoother job than we have preposterously attempted. Should you wish to make your own show we will happily talk you through the process.

Thank you all very much.

Really sad to hear that. I am frequently one of the 20-30 showing as watching on the Youtube statistics, I always assumed those figures ignored people watching directly on the broadsheet website. Was the audience really that small?

You informed, entertained and educated (remembering Ken Foxe in particular). Olga gave the best summaries of the Disclosures Tribunal, pity it was always after 11pm, Neil was top notch on movies, again sadly mostly after 11pm, Vanessa is a real star who can make cleaning an oven sound interesting, Johnny was always entertainingly contrarian. And Preposterous made it all flow so effortlessly.

At least you know the technology and format works.

Tell us lads and ladies, how much would it take on a weekly basis to bring the show back?

Eoin, thank you very much. We’d have a few hundred watching in total with the playback and what have you. The cost wasn’t an issue as YouTube don’t charge for streaming and we all did it for free.

Thank you Brother Barnabas. You were really considerate and encouraging throughout. Thanks to everyone who tuned in and to everyone who came on.

  2. Bertie Blenkinsop

Well done to everyone who took part over the course of it’s run.

(As an aside, for those of us who like to be kept informed about these things, can John Ryan continue to post a weekly updated photo of his flowing tresses, at least until it reach waist length? )

chin up, charger: one of these days, you’ll make that ‘joke’ and someone* will laugh

Jeez bro, there’s a whiff of desperation coming off every one of your responses to me.
Not quite enough to mask the smell of the farmyard but a whiff all the same.
        Less is more, old cock.

Sorry to hear that lads. Rarely around on a Thursday evening on time to watch but I always enjoyed catching up on a Sat morning.

Well done to everyone for their passion and dedication, and for sticking it this long.

You’ll be missed, by me at least. xx

Wouldn’t you just love him to dry you with a big white fluffy towel after your bath?
      Just me then?
      Awkward.

Certainly feeling Seasonal Affective Disorder with this news! BSOTT was amazing in a lot of ways, kinda of felt I was hanging out in each of your sitting rooms as the weeks went by, never quite saw anything like it before…people just chatting, sometimes serious sometimes zany.

Sad to see de telly finishing. Watched all but 3 or 4 of them over the last year or so, Thanks for the entertainment, education, anger, sadness, Neils movie gossip, Olgas shifts and proper reporting, Johnnys and my shared Bill Hicks obsession, Vanessas Rock obsession, the fights, the tantrums, Johns hair, the great sleep in and of course the great laugh you gave me at Christmas. Go raibh maith agat.

Sorry to hear that the show is ending. I just want to say thanks to all the panellists for giving up their time to inform and often times entertain viewers. I for one will miss the “constitutionally required” shift joke every time Olga was introduced. Or Mr Ryan’s luscious, fabulous hair, it should have had its own spot on the panel….. Or Johnny flying off the handle at everything, there are times I feared for the man’s health…… I don’t know if somebody having a stroke midstream would violate YouTube’s terms of service hmm.
Joking aside, thanks very much all the work put into the shows.
Just an idea, if you’re putting out any interviews or such the future please record a 20-second intro asking and telling people how to subscribe and turn on the notifications.
You will be amazed how many casual viewers react these. Good night and all the best

Not sorry and not surprised, and I say that as a fan of Broadsheet. That show needed to be tightened up and edited down — waaaayyy down.

  8. Man with no attention span

I love broadsheet but have never got around to watching this, partly because I don’t watch “telly” so the branding made no sense to me. I hadn’t thought of it as just another YouTube channel I could subscribe to, and I would have subscribed if I’d known, except I just looked and the videos are 2 hours long each!

That’s not how successful YouTube channels work. Most of the ones I subscribe to take hours of editing for a 10 minute video. A bit like actual TV I guess.

If it was kept to an hour by everyone being encouraged to make their points quickly and then broken into six 10 min segments published separately you might be on to something.

  9. Roisin O'Reilly

It was an exceptional show. You gave us alternative news that is not reported in mainstream media because we don’t have an independent press. There are only a few investigative journalists with any integrity.

I recommend that you have “one off” shows. For example, your recent guest activist solicitor Kevin Higgins made us both laugh and cry whilst keeping us informed of what is really going on behind the scenes.

John [Preposterous] Ryan handles tough subject matter very sensitively. He doesn’t have a conditioned mind like many presenters out there.

I would like to know the real reason(s) why you are stopping your live streaming broadcasts? The next thing we hear, you will all be ensconced in the Ecuadorian Embassy consigned to cleaning up cat litter.

    Starry

  10. Clampers Outside!

I wasn’t the most regular of viewers but when I did, I always did enjoy it. It’d be nice to see an odd / monthly report from Lucky on the latest developments from Direct Provision. I found his contributions very informing. As well as that English gent… can’t think of his name now.

Maybe it’ll return at another time… the idea is not that preposterous ;0)

Thanks to all the other panelists and guests too!

Ah that’s a pity. Could ye not do a show once or month even or just when there’s a lot of shenanigans going on?

I watched it on replay usually & forwarded it when people were pooin on.. no offence Vanilly.

Anyway come back soon. Ye always have a place in my living room.. Ye can be proud of all that work ye all put in.
