A petition calling for the State not to pay for the legal representation of former Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan in an action taken against him by Maurice McCabe has reached more than 22,000 signatures.

    Mick Clifford explains it on Eamon Dunphys podcast The Stand.

    Yes it’s hard to stomach but it’s a technicality.(of course it is). Hopefully when Maurice wins damages, the state will go after Callinan.

      The State will not go after Callinan, not in any meaningful way anyway.
      A conniving operator like MC will have held back documents as ‘insurance’ – probably correspondence with Shatter, Kenny or others to make sure nothing really bad ever happens to him.. or else..

      It’s not a technicality, no more than the State would pay his legal fees if he fell over a pumpkin in Tescos and decided to sue.
      The State shoud agree to pay McCabe on condition that he lodges a seperate claim against Callinan, also the DPP should be going after Callinan for breaking the Law.
