Former Senator Mairia Cahill speaking to media outside Government Buildings last night after meeting with Sinn Féin party leader Mary Lou McDonald
Saying the meeting started with a handshake, but didn’t end with one, Ms Cahill told the Belfast Telegraph: “As far I’m concerned Mary Lou McDonald has abdicated her responsibility over this.”
In a statement following the meeting, Mrs McDonald described her conversation with Mairia Cahill as “lengthy and candid”.

In which Mary Lou McDonald has a bizarre hissy fit over her *literal* Dail seat https://t.co/Vb8bElp3PB pic.twitter.com/ZfIEjh8L4t

Meanwhile…
Seriously… this is ‘political journalism’? Nice to see such support for a female leader by the women on here, ‘hissy fit’, ‘drama queen’,, well done folks. “Mary Lou McDonald”

Yesterday: ‘I Have No Feeling In The Left-Hand Side Of My Face’
Predictable outcome for the Mairia/Mary Lou meeting.
As for Mary Lou doing a Sheldon Cooper in the Dail yesterday, well, this was an informal event, not part of Dail business, where all the female TDs and senators past and present came along to the Dail for a group photo. Ministers past and present were supposed to be on the front benches, but there wasn’t enough room so they overflowed onto the second tier. Lady of leisure Mary Hanifin turned up early for the event and was allocated Mary Lou’s usual seat in row #2. Mary Lou turned up just in time for the group photo, told Mary Hanifin that she was sitting her spot and to feck off. Mary Hanifin felt bullied but in the interests of keeping the peace found another seat.
However, if you look at the group photo in the article, you’ll see they all looked happy every after. And isn’t that SF’s Rose Conway Walsh in the front row who has never been a minister. Could Mary Hanifin have swapped with her, surely row #1 was better than Mary Lou’s usual spot in row #2

It’s all a load of bo****** and anyway, isn’t that Mary Mitchell O’Connor in top spot?
Here’s Mary Lou this morning at the dry cleaners on Kildare Street trying to get any FF residue removed from her Dail seat.

It would be very hard to get *all* of the FF residue out of any seat that Mary Lou’s been sitting in ;)
Predictable outcome alright. Awaiting the next meeting. Or the announcement of Cahill standing for election somewhere. Maybe for FG or Labour.
“Hissy fit” is not appropriate. Pretty enraging, actually.
Yes shocking. Just one step away from rape.
Get a grip Starina, you don’t need to be outraged about everything!
Get a grip, Dan, you don’t need to be a silly billy 24 hours a day
As they say in the Dail bar; “Takes one to know one…”
Saucer of gin for Shane
Meow, Shane.
Dan’s comment is in exactly the same vein as “hissy-fit”: It’s meant to cause embarassment to the recipient and shut down discussion by implying that they’re too emotional. It’s a method of conversation control and has been used effectively against women (and sometimes men) for a long-ass time.
And a good dose of electro shock therapy for you Starina.
That should calm you down good and proper.
Thanks, Millie. Make sure they use the restraints, I love it ;)
It sounds like the definition of a ‘hissy fit’, I cannot thing of a more appropriate term.
Before we lose sense and sensibility, I never deemed the term hissy fit to be gender specific. Moreso age specific. The kind of thing you see sometimes see demented parent dealing with in supermarkets when their pride and joy has a strop. So, in that scenario, it sounds to me as if Mary Lou channeled her inner 6 year old and had a hissy fit….
That is an ageist statement, and not appropriate. Pretty enraging, actually.
How childish.
Of me.
+1 Well said. It’s a sexist, loaded term, up there with “hysterical”.
Is there a male equivalent? Hisy Fit? Pissy Fit? Enough name calling.
If a person (of whichever gender) is in a state of hysteria, how is it that one could describe that state without causing offence? If a politician is acting in a childish and petulant manner, is there some other noun that can be used to describe this state that won’t have reaching for the smelling salts?
Do they serve saucers of milk in the Dail bar, I wonder… :)
hanafin needs to be run from any sort of seat in the greater Kildare st area. the media also giving hanafin an easy ride over the way she shunted kate feeney out of the way in DLR
Is there an accompanying history of the achievements and under-achievements of said lot?
Well. They got themselves elected. Multiple times is some cases. Which is by no means an easy feat. But that’s about it really. For each and every one of them.
