Must get a suit cleaned so, looks I have a funeral to go to. Anyone know where poor Brexit will be buried?

I am thinking of nice things to say but the best I can come up with is ‘If you think he was bad, you should have met his brother’ but, that even doesn’t apply in this case.

      1. Ollie Cromwell

        Update.
        Dear SOQ,
On reflection I recognise my Grindr quip early this morning was insensitive and out of order.
        And for that I apologise.
I shall not refer to your sexual orientation again.
I hope you take this message in the manner it was intended – whilst we can vehemently disagree on Brexit there should be no need for such jibes.
        Best wishes,
        Ollie.

        1. Yep

Right on cue, you read the mood carefully and reign it back so people will think “Ah sure it’s just Ollie”.

          Marvellous work old cock.

          1. Ollie Cromwell

In olden times camp followers were people following behind an army looking after their every needs and cleaning the latrines.
You are one of those bog cleaners.

        2. SOQ

          Oille,

I don’t normally address you because you are not worth my time but in this case, I will make an exception. I am not offended because I did not expect anything better. You will use whatever you can to get under people’s skin but in this case, you sweetheart, were the one being trolled.

You sit here, all day, improvising a goading English character while laughing up your sleeve. Good for you that you have the time but you are not, in any way, educating the rest of us.

But that is how the mind of a comic works now isn’t it? I was the partner of a quite successful one for a longer time than the calendar record so I am pretty sure I am the right tracks.

As for Brexit, we, meaning people on Broadsheet, Ireland, would love to hear from those in England who still feel a no deal is better but your attempts at being ‘down with the kids’ is getting in the way.

Explain why you do what you do? I ask in the same way as I was face to face so respond in kind please.

          1. SOQ

Oh and himself uses Growlr not Grindr…not that it is any of your business who he socially networks with.

          2. Ollie Cromwell

Well it’s unfortunate you chose not to accept my apology.
            That is,of course,your business.
And,equally, your partner’s social networking habits are his.
But you did opt to share them on here with or without his knowledge which does open you up to charges of hypocrisy.
As I mentioned earlier I won’t be mentioning that aspect again.
As for Brexit I suspect you are not interested in my or anyone else’s opinion that doesn’t match yours.
You basically just dismiss them as trolling which is always the easy way of avoiding serious debate.
That is the nature of public disciurse but fortunately there are many more months if not years we can both keep on expressing our views.
Perhaps you could adopt a less condescending tone to be taken more seriously ?

      1. millie st murderlark

        That’s out of line, Ollie.

But that’s you all over, isn’t it? As much class as a whore begging for a ride.

        1. Ollie Cromwell

Yet hilarious posts on here about me getting stabbed are fine ?
Spare me your faux snowflake outrage.

          1. Brother Barnabas

seeing as you’re clearly interested, I’d aim for the lymph nodes – but right up to puncture the pharynx

I’d probably urinate on you afterwards

            it would depend

          2. Nigel

Weren’t you celebrating the idea of popular support for British police running mopeds off the road? Don’t whine about the tone you set, it’s childish.

          3. Brother Barnabas

he had a period of posting YouTube videos of army snipers shooting afghan peasants

            thought it was hilarious

if can’t take the return, fupp him

          4. Ollie Cromwell

Heh,heh, heh – the usual suspects with the usual script.
Generation Snowflake goes into meltdown over a mild Grindr quip.
            Bring it on bitches.

          5. Brother Barnabas

not really a meltdown, charger. more a general objection to your persistent homophobic trolling of soq. nobody with any decency thinks that’s funny or acceptable.

          6. millie st murderlark

That’s hilarious, seeing as you’re the one having a meltdown here.

I’m just pointing out that you’ve been courting this for a while now. Enjoy. I know I will.

            Happy Friday, chuck.

          7. Yep

You all fupping deserve Ollie. Everyday they CLEARLY TROLL and you all step in line to get riled up and normalise this Anti-English sentiment he is brewing.

I don’t read the comments. You don’t have to either.

Well done Ollie. Arguably the greatest troll BS has ever seen. Granted, you have had a painfully willing audience but well done all the same.

          8. Ollie Cromwell

            @Brother Barnabas.

“he had a period of posting YouTube videos of army snipers shooting afghan peasants

            thought it was hilarious

if can’t take the return, fupp him ”

            Now you’re lying.
            I’m calling your bluff.
            Prove it.

( And as you brought up urination perhaps you might ask Mam what she’s charging for a golden shower these days )

          9. Brother Barnabas

            nope

I’m not going to put any effort into finding it but it’s there – came in a long thread bragging about British army marksmen/ snipers

          10. Ollie Cromwell

Interesting that you’ll take the effort to find out whether my gardener is Slovakian or Polish but you can’t be bothered when someone directly challenges you.
Admit it Strawman – you made it up and you’ve been caught out being a tosser.
            Heh,heh,heh.

          11. Nigel

I didn’t say you did I said it was plausible for the persona you have adopted. Although BB also has like a million per cent more credibility than you. Which is also part of your persona! Look at you squirming!

          12. Ollie Cromwell

You can join that other clown on here who insisted all of Britain’s car factories are on a three day week.
Asked to provide evidence the village idiot kept hitting himself on the head with an inflated pig’s bladder.
            And still hasn’t found any.
Take your time old sport – why not take the weekend to have an aul’ sconce and see what you can find.

          1. Martco

maybe this is the part where it’s just dawning for @Charger that the car trip trip to go see the vet isn’t going to end well

          1. Nigel

If it would be in character for me to accuse you of this, then it must be true, since I don’t lie, so I would have seen it for myself. Fair enough.

          2. Brother Barnabas

charger, are you maybe starting to take this internet lark a little bit too seriously ?!

go for a walk, roll a spliff, tug yourself… whatever, just to clear the head, you know

and have a nice weekend !

          3. Ollie Cromwell

I’ll do that if you find those YouTube videos of army marksmen I didn’t post on here.
Deal or no deal loser ?

          4. Ollie Cromwell

            @Yep
            That doesn’t surprise me.
I imagine he’s the sort of person that irons a crease in his jeans.

    1. Ollie Cromwell

      Dear SOQ,
On reflection I recognise my Grindr quip early this morning was insensitive and out of order.

    1. ReproBertie

The opinion poll that shows that offered a choice between Remain, May’s Deal and No Deal, Remain is the most popular choice followed closely by May’s deal?

      1. Ollie Cromwell

But May’s deal Brexit and no deal Brexit combined still far outweigh Remain.
As I’ve been saying on here for a very long time the Twitter debate on Brexit is very different from what people in the real world think.

  2. Giggidygoo

Lesson of the day. Never, ever, sign up to allow Revenue remove funds from your Bank Account. Glitch? These are the people that are supposed to take care of your information and use it properly. Funny how some people who sign up for ROS, get a phishing email next day from scam artists purporting to be Revenue.

Still no reporting of this huge court case in the Irish media.

Oleg Deripaska, owner of the Aughinish aluminium refinery in Limerick, which employs 450 directly and is frequently referred to as a €1 billion investment in the Irish economy, was on the witness stand in London yesterday. The Times (London) seems to be the only newspaper with a reporter covering the story.

    https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/russian-oligarch-ordered-investigation-into-his-rival-s-wealth-7px0t66t6

Deripaska is accused of unlawfully seizing a property development site in Moscow from a business rival. The business rival wants £74 million compensation, that’s what the High Court in London is addressing.

The direct relevance of this court case for Ireland is, it may impact on the US deliberations on Mr Deripaska’s sanctions. If the sanctions are upheld in December, and if they apply to Rusal, the holding company for the Limerick plant, it will be difficult for the plant to continue operations. When the sanctions were imposed, and then suspended, by the US earlier this year, the US treasury said

” Deripaska has been investigated for money laundering, and has been accused of threatening the lives of business rivals, illegally wiretapping a government official, and taking part in extortion and racketeering. There are also allegations that Deripaska bribed a government official, ordered the murder of a businessman, and had links to a Russian organized crime group.” Mostly though, the US doesn’t like his links to Vladimir Putin.

The London court case continues, with the business rival due on the witness stand next week.

    1. Eoin

It should be said Mr Deripaska is denying the allegations (which are quite spectacular) being made against him by his business rival, saying the allegations are “lurid and exaggerated”.

However, that’s not the point. If the US treasury seizes upon the allegations at this critical decision-making juncture for sanctions, then the sanctions – which were imposed in April and then suspended pending investigations and negotiations with Deripaska about his control of Rusal – may be made permanent, which will sound the death knell for the plant in Limerick.

      1. Johnny

NYT did a deep dive recently Eoin, partially driven by his links to Manford.
‘In recent months, Lord Barker has lobbied Ireland’s business minister to press the Treasury Department to relent on sanctions. He has also made trips to Moscow and to Cyprus, where he presided over the annual general meeting of EN+.‘

        https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/04/world/europe/oleg-deripaska-russia-oligarch-sanctions.html

        1. Eoin

Thanks Johnny, yes that was a very detailed piece of sound reporting by the NYT. Deripaska is trying to convince everyone (a) he’s not all bad and (b) he’s divested himself sufficiently from Rusal that any sanctions that are imposed next month shouldn’t apply to Rusal.

However, observers of the court proceedings in London will be alarmed at the allegations (rejected as “lurid and exaggerated”) and the US treasury has acted on mere allegations before, so it may use the allegations in London as a basis for (a) confirming its claim Deripaska is bad and (b) that his claims of divestment from Rusal aren’t credible.

Come the start of 2019, the plant in Limerick might find, if sanctions are made permanent, there is no supplier whatsoever of raw aluminium product, and anyway, no-one outside Russia’s sphere of influence will buy the refined product. So, goodbye 450 direct jobs plus maybe 1,000 more indirectly and the best part of €100 million a year to the local regional economy.

You’d think there’d be more interest in the London court hearing!

          1. johnny

Reuters is reporting this morning that En+ Group (ENPLq.L),the parent firm of Rusal which owns and operates the Aughinish plant is proposing moving its registered office to Russia’s Kaliningrad region from Britain’s Jersey.

Exactly where and how does this affect Limerick:)

“The firm controlled by sanctioned billionaire Oleg Deripaska said the move could lead to a suspension or cancellation of the listing and trading of the company’s global depository receipts (GDRs).

“While the GDRs are currently traded on the LSE and are expected to remain traded on the LSE following the migration, there is no guarantee that the migration will not have an adverse impact on the trading market for the GDRs,” En+ said.”

            Its proposing moving to…

“EN+ proposes moving to Oktyabrsky Island in Kaliningrad, a Russian exclave bordering Poland and Lithuania. Oktyabrsky Island is one of two new regions set up this year by the Russian government that offer tax breaks”

            https://www.reuters.com/article/us-en-group-strategy/sanctions-hit-en-proposes-moving-registered-office-to-kaliningrad-idUSKCN1NZ1FJ

PS-nice work on this Eoin, you don’t appear overly reassured by the various, statements Minister for Business Heather Humphreys has made:)

          2. Eoin

Thanks Johnny, that’s an interesting development.

Since April 2018 when the USA treasury first announced sanctions on Deripaska, he has been battling on several fronts to limit the damage to Rusal, the company which directly owns the Limerick plant. He has been reducing his stake to what he claims is a level which doesn’t give him control of the company.

The move of the HQ of EN+ from the relatively reputable channel islands – “relative” to where it’s going to! – to a Russian vassal will be seen by the US treasury as a retrograde step.

This is on the radar of Heather and Leo, and the Brit establishment has been bought and brought on board. You’d think though the court battle would get more coverage here. Deripaska is wealthy and volatile enough to allow the Limerick plant be mothballed for a few years. A disaster looms for what is a fairly disadvantaged part of the country.

Major revelation at the public accounts committee yesterday, reported in today’s Irish Examiner.

3,200 people have been overpaid €171 million in social welfare, an average of over €50,000, with a minimum overpayment of €30,000 each and a maximum that’s understood to be €100,000.

No mention in the article on the cause of overpayment, but if it was fraud, you can bet your timsy-pushkin that it would be headline news. Isn’t the justification of the public services card the prevention of fraud, yet we would appear to have made these overpayments through old-fashioned incompetence by the civil service.

    1. Cian

Do you realise that Social Welfare paid over €19,900,000,000 last year?
There were over 1.3 million people on weekly payments (over 67,000,000 separate payments)
There were 625,000 families that got a monthly Child Benefit payment – another 7,500,000 payments.

So I’d cut them a bit of slack.

      1. Giggidygoo

I wouldn’t. The PS average pay is 40% higher than private sectors, so wouldn’t you expect a bit more professionalism when performing their duties.?

        1. Cian

Who in the Irish private sector is making 70 million+ separate payments per year amounting to almost €20bn that you would bench-mark them against?

Perhaps they make 40% fewer errors than the private sector – if so they are worth it? We don’t know what kind of errors that are made there (there was the banking scandal(s) where they were overcharging…)

          1. scottser

Ive been working in the public sector for the past 14 years, 10 of which were under a recruitment embargo. I joined at a time when public sector wages were being dwarfed by the private sector. The austerity years saw no new recruitment so we all had to do more with less. And every day id drive home listening to MSM divide workers by pitting private v public, especially over pensions. Just because the botty fell out of the private sector, dont think the public sector is to blame, you’re a mug if you do.

  5. Ollie Cromwell

More on those UK police videos of the brave boys and girls in blue ramming miscreants on their mopeds.
Police in Camden report a 90% drop in moped crime since they introduced the new tactic – which they are legally entitled to do.
I have chums in the smoke who say everyone – and I mean everyone except Diane Abbott – is in favour of the aggressive move to rid the streets of this vermin.
Perhaps de Guards could be a bit more hard-nosed dealing with Dublin’s toe-rags.
