A reminder.

A concert organised by Offaly Good Vibes commemorating the life of John Lennon in aid of the Simon Community will be held at Tullamore Food Fayre, Kilcruttin Business Park, Tullamore, County Offaly at 12-2pm.

Johnny Keenan, of Offaly Good Vibes  (and ‘Broadsheet on the Telly‘ fame) writes:

Last month the world stood together to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of ‘the war to end all wars’. Ironically today we have more wars and more mass killing than ever before.

In 1969 when Vietnam war was at its height. John Lennon and Yoko Ono decided to publicise peace. It was an artistic humanist and active project that they would work at for 3 years.

Starting with a bed-in for peace on their honeymoon in a hotel room in Amsterdam with a simple and subtle message in a song ‘Give Peace a Chance’.

They took to the streets of cities all across America affirming ‘Power To The People’. Then hit home the message in 1972 with a massive worldwide billboard campaign ‘ War Is Over! (if you want)’ followed by arguably the ultimate Xmas song.

John & Yoko were two informed intelligent and idyllic people who saw the world for what it is. A planet run by corporate greed against human need. They gave their money and time for the greater good.

Offaly Good Vibes  will be sending a message from the heart of Ireland tomorrow, Saturday, December, 8, the 38th anniversary of John Lennon’s death

This is positive vibe for all the family and is run to raise much needed funds for Midlands Simon Community.

    I am likely to kick off a storm here, but what the hey!

    While this is a wonderful cause, and I wish it every success and anyone attending a great time, I must admit I will not be attending. I have never liked John Lennon’s music, poetry or his activism. He always came across to me a smarmy and holier than though, and I could not get my head around his music.

    At least I will leave one space for a more admiring ear :)

    I agree with the sentiments of this post and the concert, however I have to call you out about the bit “Ironically today we have more wars and more mass killing than ever before.” this is complete and total rubbish.

    There are fewer wars and mass killings now than at any time in recorded history (both actual numbers of dead and/or percentages of dead-to-total world population).

    Sorry guys #GiveWarAChabce doesn’t really have the same desired effect.
    Lennon and Beatles music covers generations.
    There is a strong peaceful message within that music. It’s unfortunate none here so far grasps the message.
    In order to bring people together you have to see who and what will bring people together for the bigger cause which us Peace in this instance.

    I look forward to supporting any ideas than include peaceful means coming from anyone who cares to make the effort.

    If you look at Lennon and Yoko Ono on the concept and how it’s still one of the best we have today to make a collective effort to bring about works peace in our time.

    I would be grateful if people might look at this video and comment on the concept rather than the people behind it. Thanks!
