One side effect of the Tory civil war not really mentioned so far is the distinct possibility of it splitting, but a more sinister development is the invite to Tommy Robinson to join or at least get involved with UKIP. The association between Brexit and the English far right may make some people stop and think however.
Nationalism is on the rise right across Europe but the difference is that England is a member of something larger, meaning the UK. The stronger English nationalism becomes, the weaker the UK will be, especially as two out of the four countries don’t want Brexit at all.

Stephen Fry is what unintelligent people think an intelligent person is.
And it’s a popular misconception that racism drove Brexit.
A third of black and ethnic people who voted chose Leave.
A majority of Jews who voted chose Leave.
On the day of the referendum Lord Ashcroft’s polling team questioned 12,369 people voters.
This poll produced data that showed that ‘Nearly half (49%) of leave voters said the biggest single reason for wanting to leave the European Union was “the principle that decisions about the UK should be taken in the UK. ”
Immigration was the second choice but wishing a country to have a controlled migration system ( as every country outside the EU does ) does not make the people who voted for that racist.
It’s a lazy assumption to make ( which is why I’m not surprised you made it ) and popular amongst Remain voters who,two and a half years after the poll and with opinions barely changing, still haven’t begun to understand why a clear majority voted Leave.
Brother Barnabas
so two-thirds of black and ethnic voters voted remain… right-ee-oh

“The average adult in Ireland will put on about half a stone over Christmas and a lot of that is due to the extra drink consumed, because people go out more. Calorie-wise, drinks are a big thing. People are [also] less inclined to exercise, because the nights are darker and colder, so that means the extra calories are not being burned off.”
Says Safefood Ireland, reported in the Times Ireland today.
“Most people will consume more calories on Christmas Day than any other day, but there are effective ways to cut the calorie count whilst enjoying your meal”
“For example, reduce the size of portions on your plate and if you’re eating Christmas pudding, serve it with low-fat custard. Starters and snacks are a big thing, too, and instead of ones full of calories, vegetables with hummus, or olives with bread, are tasty, and [healthier] options.
“Avoid a fried breakfast on the morning of Christmas Day and try to drink more water.”
Yeah, right, hummus on Christmas day. You can fupp right off there.

Seriously, hummus and olives, just what are they smoking at Safefood Ireland? Why do they want to deny us the traditional turkey, pig and brussels sprouts that they had on that very first Christmas. Weirdos!

The Irish Times has a confused (but not paywalled) version of Tom Lyons’ report on the latest hacking revelations at INM.
It really is astounding that the Data Protection Commissioner, Helen Dixon proceeded to support a data protection conference organised by, em, INM last April despite the uproar at the time about bringing her office into disrepute. That sort of judgement should have led to her being shown the door. It now appears that the hacking revelations at the start of the year were just the tip of the iceberg.

And yet a woman whose child was taken from her and adopted is refused her personal data held by the state.
