Security personnel from the North claiming to be British..

Yea what more do you need? an orange lodge membership badge..!?

          1. jusayinlike

            @ Owen C

does Rory mac take part in evictions down south and proudly claim to be British whilst doing so??

            state contrarions..

          2. jusayinlike

“They’ll be simple Presbyterians by lunchtime tomorrow”

and you’ll still be a simple apathetic state contrarion by lunchtime tomorrow..

          1. jusayinlike

            @ scundered

What type of individual from the North takes part in an eviction in the South and during ensuing violence proudly proclaims to be British?

You call me paranoid, I call you blatantly willfully apathetic.

          2. scundered

            @Justsayinlike

I think the point he/she was making is that just because someone identifies as British doesn’t make them a loyalist paramilitary. The vast majority of people I know in the north don’t identify as republican or loyalist, they are sick of that crap, and those who see nationality as a political statement.

Do you have any evidence or links to the identity of the security guards? If not then stop stirring the pot until you get the facts. It’s too easy to jump into the hate hole.

Would you assume someone from the Republic working in the north was in the IRA? Because that’s the equal opposite of what you are saying.

          3. jusayinlike

I would assume that a person from the South working to evict people from their homes in the protestant sections of the North, and while doing said job proudly claiming to be a southern Irish, as a nationalist.

Clearly the man who claimed he was British is a loyalist.

Any chance the blushirts will get Apple to pay those billions in back taxes, with the “rule of law” and all…

      1. GiggidyGoo

Into an Escrow account where it can’t be touched pending further legalities. So no, we haven’t got it.

          1. Giggidygoo

They haven’t paid. They are disputing, and have deposited an amount in an escrow account that we can’t access. But they haven’t paid. The FG spin is in full flow as usual Cian

          2. Cian

They have paid. They are disputing, and have deposited an amount in an escrow account that they can’t access. But they have paid. Facts before spin.

When the court decides who is right the money will either be released to Apple or to Ireland (and whatever other countries make a grab for it).

Translation: All of us have to condemn any violence which isn’t state sponsored.

Fupp off Varadkar, nobody gives a poo about the soundbites.

I condemn ALL violence, not just that which comes from those I disagree with.

  3. Alan mc gee

are we unreservedly condemning the violence against those being evicted? or unreservedly condemning the violence against the black and tans by the vigilantes supporting the evicted?

        1. Tom

Yes. Violence or force isn’t inherently unlawful. This is one of the situations where it’s allowable.

I am banned from this site and have been asked to stop changing my username to comment, but am being very rude and persistent.

  4. Madam X

Open your eyes Leo .No one with any integrity will buy this farm now..Your one sided view of violence is abhorrent to many of your people . Get proper laws to sort all the banks and jail fraudsters.( tracker scandal) etc. The people have had enough

  5. Kolmo

Just peed off people, how it hasn’t happened before this is the only surprising thing, a bit shortsighted of KBC to use the jumped-up illiterate yeomanry from the shankill to violently evict people..

  6. Spaghetti Hoop

I would have expected Drew Harris to be commenting on a news story involving criminality, a story with not entirely all the facts disclosed, not the Taoiseach. This seems very odd indeed for Leo to be snow-balling this.

    1. Cian

At a guess he was door-stopped by a journalist and asked a direct question – rather than holding a press conference to specifically address this.

    2. Karl Sparks

on the contrary, it is very normal for this aoiseach to shoot his mouth off into the nearest available microphone

The actions on Sunday morning were entirely justified. The vast majority of Irish people will not accept alleged ex UDR/Loyalist gangsters operating under any circumstances in the state, never mind being used to violently throw people out of their homes. The message went out that any more from South East Antrim will get similar. This is the issue that has angered people so much.

    1. anne

Some are saying they’re just balaclava toting security guys from up north who are really just misunderstood.

      1. rotide

“The actions on Sunday morning were entirely justified”

Holy crap, this is like Berlin in the ’30s

    2. newsjustin

I agree that the uncertainty over who these security guards were, if they were licensed or not, and if they carried out their duties in an entirely legal manner are all fair questions here.

    3. scundered

So far there have been no news items detailing who they were exactly, but the thought that washed up gangsters would even consider a job like this, or get employed to do it in the first place, is laughable. The rumour looks to be started as a means to gain support for a lynch mob. Overall what a shambles of an operation by both sides.

  8. Fergus the Magic Postman

Varadkar doing his usual impression of a very bored, disinterested Brian O’ Driscoll.
He had nothing to say about his state sponsored pawns overseeing the eviction by thugs on Tuesday.
Let’s not forget, we, unjustifiably bailed out the undeserved banks, who are the root cause of ALL of this.
We’re on a slippery slope at the moment, so Varadkar better stick his head out from his ignorantly blissful FG classist bubble, have a look around him and smell the coffee, or he could have another France on his hands down the line.

      1. Cian

Napoléon Bonaparte – 35 when he became Emperor.
Alexander the Great – 20 when he became king; 24 when he became lord of Asia.

        ‘boys’

        1. Giggidygoo

Are you seriously comparing the three stooges to Napoleon and Alexander the great? Can’t wait to see the FG literature for the next election.
You boys are away with the faeries.

          1. Cian

Nope. I’m saying that youth isn’t an predictor of either failure or incompetence.

I’d guess that these ‘boys’ have achieved a hell of a lot more in their short lives than most commentators on this site.

          2. Mickey Twopints

            Really?

Name some achievements (of substance) that Varadkar can justifiably lay a personal claim to, in any of his several government roles.

    1. Sham Bob

I agree that the bailout is the root of this and is quoted consistently a factor by the Yellow Vests.

  9. anne

Vigilante? Are these balaclava wearing security heavies the law now? Like if you don’t agree with the tactics of those who ran them outta town, fair enough..but vigilantes.

    1. rotide

You keep saying that the security team was wearing balaclavas.

Since you previously linked to a video of the actual eviction and know for a fact they weren’t wearing any such thing, i can only assume you are just a lying POS

      1. anne

POS? Piece of sh*t is it? Now now windbag.. no need of that.

Weren’t they the same crowd that kicked the sh*t out of the students in Dublin? Were they not wearing balaclavas then no? Did Harris say he didn’t agree with the Balaclavas n all shur? Kicking the sh*t outta the students not so much.

        1. topsy

Harris is well familiar with the b specials & RUC kicking the poo out of Catholics in the North. Why would he be concerned about loyalist scum battering people in the south.

  10. gringo

It makes me proud to see people standing up to these latter day black and tans. A few more incidents like this might put manners on the banks too.

    1. rotide

      Why stop there?

Lets set the baseball bats on to the others. Anyone accused of child molesting for a start, no complaints there. How about rape? seems fair enough. Actually theres a lot of gays too. Lets give them a taste of it. How about the jews too?

    1. Mickey Twopints

      XVI

      My typo.

But of course you knew that.

And yet you went to the trouble of looking it up, and posting here. I suppose I should be touched.
