‘How Sad It Is To See This As So Necessary’

at

This morning.

At the Capuchin Day Centre, Bow Street, Dublin 7.

Capuchin Franciscan priest-friar Brother Richard writes:

Over the past 24 hours our Brothers Kevin, Sean, Bryan and a vast team of local volunteers have packed up 3,000 Christmas “Hampers” for distribution to the homeless who attend the Capuchin Day Centre in Dublin…

Congratulations and blessings to all involved but how sad it is to see this as so necessary today… Give what you can to those in need, if you can’t give money, give time and presence and if you can’t give those then at least give your prayers…

Charity to hand out 3,000 food hampers before Christmas (RTE)

Might not be the best idea in the world to be taking and publishing photos of these unfortunate people. Some folks might not appreciate it.

‘Everyone but an idiot knows that the lower classes must be kept poor or they will never be industrious.’

I was going to say, unless these are pictures of the volunteers, they should not show people going to a food bank. Respect their privacy

    Kudos. Disgusting this is necessary.

Free food in Facebook and Google Dublin daily – such detachment from reality.

The photo is of volunteers packing the hampers. I have done similar before. You lay out the supplies on the tables, and the volunteers take a bag and put 1 or 2 items from each pile in the bag as they walk along.

Kind of production line before Ford changed the game, where the humans move along a still pile of supplies. ford’s innovation was to have the item move and each station had only 1 job.

As said above: fair dues to all who helped out!

Incidentally, a similar method is used when giving food supplies in displacement and refugee camps in the early phases.

Who do you think I should I be defending?

Capuchin Day Centre do great work. (as do many others).
      Homelessness is bad.
We need to build more homes, specifically in Dublin, for people to live in: Affordable homes for people to buy, social homes for those that can’t afford, rentable homes for landlords to buy and rent to those that wish to rents, as well as (dare I say it) some more expensive houses for those that can afford it.
We need better social services to help those sleeping rough break addiction and other issues they might have.
We need to work together to find solutions to the problems and then fix them – not just throw insults at each other.

A booming economy and record numbers working and this is Ireland with hampers for the homeless by the thousand
Imagine if we had a downturn
