Ah Eamon Melia, typical of the parochialism that has dogged this country for generations. Parish pump politics at its finest.

how do you contest an election if someone votes FOR you? I never heard of Gary Gannon or Eamon Melia before today. what exactly is it that is happening?

Garry Gannon and his Social Democrats endorsed the Labour candidate in the Presidential Election. No to Labour so by association No to the Social Democratic Party.

As compared to the plank, the thick plank, the other plank and yer one. Or two. Who even remembers.

Gary should be a shoe-in for a Dail seat next general election, he was very unlucky to lose out last time and isn’t his rival 67-year Maureen O’Sullivan retiring at the next election? Should Gary be successful in May, I suppose he can always come back from Europe to contest a Dail seat and the Soc Dems could co-opt someone else for Brussels.

Good luck to him, he’s a decent politician.

Local polling (think it was Adrian Kavanagh that posted it but could be wrong) done by FG had Joe Costello and an FFer (not sure if Fitzpatrick is running again) taking the third and fourth seats after Mary Lou and Pascal.

There’s a long and proud tradition of failed Dáil candidates standing for the European Parliament. Would he join the Party of European Socialists – Labour’s comrades – in the EP?
