Meanwhile, In INM

at

Laura Slattery, in The Irish Times, reports:

Independent News & Media (INM) is seeking about 35 redundancies, with the majority of the job losses expected to come from the editorial side of its operation.

The newspaper and website publisher is understood to have opened up a voluntary redundancy scheme with the expectation that about 25 journalists will leave the company as a result. A spokesman for INM declined to comment.

Ouch, this is what life is like in the private sector. Job security is non-existent. That’s a luxury those in the public sector don’t seem to place a value on

I’m sick of this nonsense and I’m not a public sector worker.
The positions in the public sector are available through open competition. If you like what’s on offer apply and if you are up to the required standard you will be accepted. Try publicjobs.ie

That’s like saying to someone who is complaining about politicians’ salaries: “Well, nothing is stopping you running for election and earning that yourself”.

Every euro that is spent in the public sector is generated in the private sector.

Yeah, all that land, state investment and natural resources are produced by the private sector magic.

they are seeking voluntary redundancies, i think you will find that these have been offered to the public sector in the past,

these can be very lucrative to people who accept them

Sure, what do they need editors for these days? It’s all ‘Irish Mammy’ videos and Vogue Williams insta photos.

Yep – those “adorable” and “hilarious” abstracts are intellectually limiting stuff – perfect for the Indo audience.

Invariable, videos are accompanied by taglines that require little human creativity..

      2. “WATCH as these 12 lads from Donegal have the Gardai in stitches as they perform a hilarious version Bohemian Rhapsody in a 1998 Nissan Micra while being four times over the limit…”

      etc

Anyone know what’s happening with INM share price? Stuck at 5.98c for past week, tiny volumes traded (few hundred euro a day)? Corporate watchdog inspectors onsite digging around. Data Protection commissioner examining the surveillance and hacking of records including journalist records. Central Bank investigating market abuse (insider trading?). What a basket case.

How prescient #vinb was in 2012 when he wrote “Why I think O’Brien is not a fit person to control INM”

    1. Dhaughton99

Dunno, but will you check the Eircom price while you’re at it? Haven’t checked in a while.

Sure ‘online editors’ are the way to go. Bots. You read various ‘reports’ in the various print media that are not only similar but are ‘word for word’ sometimes.

If I were a journo in there, I’d jump at it. Wait 18 months and it will be Clerys all over again.

Even though it’s voluntary, if anyone in INM wants the redundancy just go and knock on the disgraced Martin Callinans door. Guaranteed redundancy right there…. don’t take my word for it though, ask Gemma.

Yes, let’s celebrate people losing their jobs. Good for you Daisy and the rest of you hypocritical ladyparts on here.

        1. Rob_G

AFAIR, Daisy is on the PS gravy train, so she probably finds it a difficult position to empathise with.

That’s hilarious Andrew. I’m sure your own empathy for workers will stretch to nurses then, yes?

Or maybe you’re just a hypocrite.

          1. Andrew

Are nurses losing their jobs millie? Are they even likely to have that particular worry?
I’m sure you can do better than that.

          2. millie st murderlark

            You’re right of course.

Can’t be sympathetic to the nurses when some journos are losing their jobs under a voluntary redundancy programme. It’s one or the other, right?

What a simplistic little world you must live in.

          3. Andrew

millie I’m not the one celebrating job losses and making tangential points fro other topics.
Simplistic? You’re the hypocrite millie, you have no defence

          4. millie st murderlark

So that wasn’t you scorning the nurses strike on the other thread then. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I’ll stick to my original opinion.

And just because you seem to have missed it, that wasn’t me celebrating job losses. I’m capable of sympathising with those who will be made redundant and the nurses going on strike.

Have a good weekend. I’m done here.

      2. Dub Spot

You know it’s possible to empathize with other’s plight without knowing or even liking them? I cannot abide INM and the style of ‘journalism’ it pursues and the fears and prejudices the shower panders to, but I feel for anyone losing their job.
