A French riot police officer brandnshing Heckler & Koch G36 assault rifle in Paris on Saturday during Yellow Vest protests

French riot police have deployed semi-automatic weapons with live ammunition against Yellow Vest protestors for the first time.

Officers were filmed brandishing Heckler & Koch G36 weapons by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris on Saturday afternoon.

…Live ammunition 30 cartridge magazines could be seen as officers marched the streets, although none were used as 5000 police were deployed on the streets of the French capital.

Yellow Vest protestor Gilles Caron said:

‘The CRS with the guns were wearing riot control helmets and body armour – they were not a specialised firearms unit.

Their job was simply to threaten us with lethal weapons in a manner which is very troubling. We deserve some explanations.’

could also be anti-terrorism stuff, like ya have to cover all angles, and some terrorists could use a yellow vest protest as a cover to get in and bomb somewhere or somethin.

It is genuinely sad to see how Broadsheet has bought into the narrative re the yellow vests and similar ‘movements’.

They are an overwhelmingly right-wing group which has no coherent or constructive programme. It condones violence against an accountable and democratic government – with opposition to anti-global warning taxes as it’s first priority.

these weapons were not ‘used’, they were carried and if you have been through a French airport in the past 20 years you would have seen them regularly.

…someone seems to have hacked rotide’s account…he’s being nice to me and he would never spell ‘your’ wrong…

+1 I saw a photo of a guy wearing a yellow vest that said “Not a Nazi, actual construction worker”

@GO’S Ive been following this a bit, and what amazed me was how diverse the group is, sure there are some right wingers, but on one TV station I saw a group of 20 interviewed , they were asked who they voted for in the last presidential election , it was about 1/4 Macron, 1/4 Le Pen , 1/4 Yvelines and then some for Dupont-Aignan and Fillon .

you have to be careful when looking at France, their right wingers are left of our left wingers…

Here’s a video to brighten up your Monday morning

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DIaJLO0DvE

French heavyweight boxer v riot police man with a shield (warning about their language, forgive their French).

I wouldn’t want to be the police after one of them opens fire with live rounds and seriously wounds or kills someone.

      1. Eoin

The boxer is a bit of a national hero in France, he voluntarily surrendered to police after the protest and €100,000 was raised online for his legal expenses before the French govt shut the crowdfunding down.

        1. Rep

So? Tommy Robinson was able to raise a lot of money for his legal expenses as well. Are you also celebrating the group kicking the prone cop on the ground directly after that?

        2. Rob_G

Why on earth would that ‘brighten up our Monday morning’?

A trained boxer or martial artist assaulting someone is the same as assault with a deadly weapon; I hope justice comes swift and harsh for that bullying thug.

Not much of an esprit de corps in the French police. One officer was left, more or less, to fend for himself against a burly fighter who was not impressed by the officer’s baton, shield or visor.

If you’ve ever been to Paris you’ll know that a semi-automatic weapon is de rigeur with deployed troops and CRS. The mail story is BS. Typical Brits.

Well, I just thought it was a little bit odd given your status as the resident Zionist. Maybe in your rush to make whatever point you were trying to make, you neglected to notice that he’s a moderate and regards Palestinians as equals.

          1. shitferbrains

Why does support for a two state solution imply anti-Zionism , which is what you seem to be implying ? One of those states will be a Jewish – or Zionist – state.

          2. Mickey Twopints

Quite the leap there, poopfer. I won’t claim to be surprised at the attempt to deflect, it’s your hallmark after all.
