The Irish Times reports:

A sportsman has been questioned and released after being arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault in Dublin last month.

He was arrested by appointment at Dundrum Garda station on Thursday night. Gardaí also took DNA samples from the man with his consent.

The alleged assault happened on the night of December 9th or early the next morning, when a complaint was made to gardaí. The woman has since made a formal statement to investigators, on foot of which the man was arrested.

The Irish Times, the so-called paper of record, reported late last month that this case was unlikely to progress.

They’ve now been scooped by the Irish Daily Star, a newspaper that advertises numerous adult chat line services.

    Just saying..

Bodger how closely are you watching the comments on this article?

Like for example if I was to be silly and get banned.

Wow well done Bodger! Live comment editing.

Funny how the newspapers named Deputy Clare Daly when she was arrested and handcuffed on suspicion of drink driving (totally exonerated a few hours later). But this “prominent sportsman” remains anonymous despite publicity in similar cases encouraging other victims to come forward.

    Funny.

For a website obsessed with transparency, its funny that it turns out you can’t actually name this man’s sport :/

Most have already seen the name. Doctor I recommend you look at how social media and blogs are viewed by the judiciary these days for commenting on live cases and condemning individuals who have not been tried or even charged with a crime.
