‘We Need To Have The Full Facts’

The Coombe Woman and Infants University Hospital in Dublin

This morning.

Further to claims in the Dáil that a woman was refused a termination in the case of a fatal foetal abnormality at the Coombe Hospital in Dublin…

“The board have said that they have no role in the ruling of the case – I do think we need to have the full facts.

But I do also know that we must acknowledge it is a new service, there are new challenges of course around a service such as this.

But the service is significantly better than what was there on the 31st of December, when women had to leave the country, leave the jurisdiction to travel abroad for a termination of pregnancy – or they had to purchase medication illegally online.

Nineteen maternity hospital have signed up to provide this service, so obviously there are challenges at the beginning of this service – but as I said I’m not going to rush to any judgement.”

I don’t think we can get full facts when it concerns a named woman, other than the information that woman has released

Drogheda now has the internet I see– “Killing babies”? — “Our Lady’ supporters out in force I see.

“She said: “The bar is too high for certifying fatal foetal abnormalities. This needs to be investigated. This is not what the people of Ireland voted for. This is not what I voted for,” she said.”

The bar is too high? Makes one wonder about the full facts alright. Perhaps this is the beginning of a long campaign to redefine fatal foetal abnormality to mean complicated pregnancy. This was inevitable once 40.3.3 was removed.

Fine Gammon? Is this some new insult for the Irish Tories? The same party led by a half Indian openly gay ultra progressive leader that virtue signals at every opportunity?

This is a strange nexus Nigel. The insult in question really is lazy and poorly thought out. I’m sure we’ll find something to disagree about soon.

So the board had nothing to do with denying the abortion.

Which means either two doctors DIDNT sign off on it or one or both of them decided that it wasn’t actually an FFA

None of which is really the ministers fault.

    1. newsjustin

Or two doctors did sign off but either

      a) one or more of them had second thoughts and changed their opinion
      b) a group/board of their medical colleagues have/had some say and the process has stalled.
