Bono And The Hedge

at

Um.

At Davos.

Bono announcing a new organisation with his private equity firm TPG that will help investors “effectively understand the impact of their decisions” and that money given to benefit society actually benefits society.

*cough*

Ahh… Just fupp off and stay fupped off for once ye bleedin greedy, narcissistic, delusional clown…….

Why people keep paying hard earned money to fill stadiums in their droves to fund this guy is proof that the masses are inherently easily manipulated into willfull ignorance and supporting direct harm to their own self interests…

Nevermind a lazy loyalty or just a plain bad taste in music going on there too…

“Fuzzy thinking just won’t cut it. We need cold hard facts” says St Paul with the cuban heels.

How about the cold hard fact that U2 with wealth estimated at nearly €1 billion last week engage in aggressive international tax planning so as to deprive Ireland’s tax coffers of income.

How about the fact that U2 have contributed exponentially more both financially and culturaly to the country than everyone here put together.

It’s never bothered me in the slightest that they moved the company to the netherlands, they are a global company, Ireland doesn’t have a monopoly on all their profits

“OK sir, now just to be absolutely clear the impact of your investment will be such: third world workers will be heavily exploited to the point of human rights abuse, large areas of woodland which provide habitats and contribute to atmospheric oxygenation will be cleared and the industrial activity will produce heavy metals and a variety of interesting toxins that will taint the surrounding land and poison generations of children to come”

“OK, great stuff, what’s my projected ROI again?”

Capitalism works. Socialism does not. Unfortunately we only have crony capitalism with socialist tendencies. Bailing out failed banks is not capitalism. It’s socialism. I also wish Bono would just go away.

One or the other, eh? Don’t you think that there could be some scope for something inbetween? Perhaps a more socially conscious version of capitalism?

      1. Termagant

        Some sort of… socitalism?!

But really what you’re describing is the economic side of fascism, isn’t that a pity.

Remember when he was good enough to put B.B. King up in his house to protect him from the hoards of violent Irish racists patrolling the streets, who would have beaten B.B up on sight. God bless Bono!
