Staying In Tomorrow?

Galway hurler Davy Glennon

On The Late Late Show.

Sarah Whiteacre writes:

Ahead of his new four-part series, Dermot Bannon’s Incredible Homes, Dermot will join host Ryan Tubridy to compare and contrast how people live in different cities around the globe

The Late Late will celebrate the best of new Irish Enterprise with some of the inventions and products set to make a mark in the coming year.

After seeing her husband Niall Quinn receive an honorary degree some years ago, Gillian Quinn was inspired to return to college and joins Ryan to chat about how she’s proved that it’s never too late to get an education.

We’ll be joined by Conor Sketches to chat about his rise to success, and how his impressions helped to secure a gig with a major US TV network.

For years, Galway hurler Davy Glennon hid a chronic gambling addiction from his friends, family and employers before a life of lies caught up with him. The All Ireland winner joins Ryan…

There’s also music from tenor Alfie Bow.

How many times has Bannon been on that show? A quick Google indicates Nov 2018, Feb 2018, Jan 2017 and Dec 2016. And always plugging the new show. RTE are really hideously smug and inbred. What ever happened to great interviewing of internationally-recognised celebrities and exceptional people?

Bannon is a pain in the swiss.
Sorting out his own new gaff might put manners on him, i.e. dealing with over-runs…over-spends…unexpected problems, etc.

No. He wants that feature window and by god he will have it. Even if you bankrupt yourself in the process.

We’re too small a market for the big name international celebs. They do the likes of Graham Norton and move on. That leaves RTÉ having to pad out with RTÉ presenters talking about RTÉ shows.

I propose weekly suggested alternative programmes, podcasts, cocktail recipes etc. to counterbalance said tripe of the LLS, and equally tripe deliveries from Brendan bleedin’ O’Carroll / Courtney (not sure which is which), Miriam-absolutely-O’Callaghan and the 400k-a-year numbskull Arsey D’Arcy. Enough is enough with this tripe-plugging. License or no license fee, we deserve better.

If you’re fed up with one RTE mediocrity interviewing another RTE mediocrity promoting an upcoming work of mediocrity, then why not try a world-class Irish interviewer with world-class guests promoting world class works. Graham Norton tomorrow night on the BBC, which is repeated on Saturday night on Virgin Media.

        Tomorrow night’s show:

“The host reviews trending news stories before inviting Hollywood stars Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks to discuss their involvement in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. Oscar-winner Jennifer Connelly talks about new sci-fi action movie Alita: Battle Angel, while actor and comedian Paul Whitehouse muses about Only Fools and Horses, a musical based on the hit TV comedy, in which he plays Grandad. Plus, the legendary Chaka Khan performs Like Sugar, and another bunch of intrepid audience members willing to recount an anecdote from the dreaded red chair.”

You are right: Norton is a pro and delight. Thanks to English telly.
But I despair with RTE’s capture on their TV audience’s needs.

    2. Bertie Blenkinsop

Terry Hall is on the latest Richard Herring podcast.
It’s hilarious and heart breaking in equal measure.
He had a horrible childhood which shaped his demeanour, if you’re a fan of his he’ll make a lot more sense to you afterwards.

“….inspired to return to college and joins Ryan to chat about how she’s proved that it’s never too late to get an education…….”

Never too late, Gillian, when you’re married to a retired millionaire, I’m sure. Try telling that to Maureen from Ballyfermot who has to work nights delivering curries on top of her day job in order to make enough dosh to cover the mortgage.

    1. Dhaughton99

She was already on with Tubridy on the radio in October telling her ‘inspirational’ story.

    2. Rep

You’re absolutely correct, unless you’re married to a retired millionaire there is absolutely not point in trying to better yourself. If you’re not not happy with your life, tough.
