The Department of Public Expenditure and Reform (DPER) raised concerns nearly two years ago about governance arrangements for the development of the planned new national children’s hospital, official files suggest.

The department said it had been assured by the Department of Health that there were “sufficiently robust” arrangements in place to oversee the construction of the hospital, which is now at the centre of controversy over a massive cost overrun.

    Non story.

The Department of Public Expenditure ALWAYS expresses concerns about spending. That’s its job!

Typical carry on in this country, the original budget should have been published, the new costs should be published, that way we can see how and where this overspend is coming from. This is either gross incompetence or corruption to the tune of over a €1,000,000,000, either way its should not happen and those responsible should be removed from public service. I’ll never understand why there are no ramifications for this crap, year after year, decade after decade.

“A scandal in the making” – lets sit back and watch the money getting drained, then when its all over point fingers, spend hundreds of millions more on a public inquiry that has no real result except to drain more money in favor of lawyers et al and it’s only real output is a list of “recommendations”. We must have a mountain of recommendations at this stage.

Also what are the chances that the worlds most expensive hospital also becomes the worlds most expensive hospital to run and maintain.

    Plans completed
    Plans reviewed
    Due Diligence done
    Tender released
    Tenders received
    Contract awarded based on tender

    Then

    Bam!!

    The costs increase 1,2,3,4…… fold

And all involved can rest assured no one will be held responsible.

Looks like Pascal Donohue was overreaching himself riding at the helm of both the Dept of Finance and the Dept of Public Expenditure and Reform. Time to appoint a proper minister to PER? But with 33 ministers already in this govt of just 58, who’s left? Is that the TD for north Tipp coughing loudly.
