So Mickey Martin’s response to the Harris scandal is that an apology to the Dail will suffice. The Grand Old Duke zoo Cork didn’t even bother attempting matching up the hill this time.
Roll on general election time.
Eoin
The Shinners really stuck it to him yesterday, “Micheal, a chara”
The numbers here don’t match a 200% overrun. More like a 200m overrun.
Can anyone find the original figures for the hospital, and what is covered?
Giggidygoo
what? You haven’t got them? HQ are slipping up.
dav
playback of Leo’s bull crap was 600 billion fully costed. his words.
Mickey Twopints
An Post to spend €5,000,000 in new branding and a new font for their logo. That’s FIVE MILLION EURO on new clothes. Just a few weeks after they shut down my local post office.
Eoin
Now costs €1.80 to send a single A4 sheet of paper in an A4 envelope. Kerching!
millie st murderlark
It really annoys me that people seem to think this is good value. It’s not.
Eoin
Grrrr, Millie, Grrrr! (Agree wholeheartedly with you and was surprised there wasn’t more of an outcry when they raised the minimum price for a stamp on a letter by 25% from <80c to €1.00 last year, where is the accountability, same for Bord Gais and their inflation-busting increase in energy costs from March 2019, haven't wholesale prices declined by 25% in the past five months?)
Gabby
@ milly : Would you type or write out a letter and post it in an envelope to the newspaper? One way to support local post offices is to buy stamps.
SOQ
Apart from clocking up air miles, what is the purpose of all May’s visits? Before the vote in HP, she done the exact same thing within the UK.
Martco
optics
SOQ
Yes well, optics won’t feed people. To quote John Hume, you can’t eat a flag. Not that there will be a union jack anymore of course, because there will be no union.
If the game is to push it to the 11th hour then it could go very badly wrong.
Martco
you’re dead right it could very badly wrong
meanwhile in other Brexit news…I see that bs “no-deal extra ferry service” contract which controversially awarded by the Brit Transport Minister to a crowd Seaborne Freight to boost capacity on the English Channel (despite the fact they had no experience at it) fell apart today.
Apparently the contract in question was ACTUALLY to be serviced by a shipping company called ARKLOW SHIPPING who pulled the plug?! outsource contracts, wha?
sounds like something Arfur Daly might have been involved in

Despite all the fanfare, I really can’t see anything new in the Telegraph’s expose on Philip Green, the husband of the owner (and the power behind the throne) of Topshop, TopMan, Wallis, Burton, Miss Selfridge, Dorothy Perkins, Outfit and Evans.
The judgement yesterday at the High Court in London is interesting though, just read the non disclosure agreement at the end.
Sleazebag Philip says he dropped his injunction battle with the Telegraph because he was named in parliament by Peter Hain in October. Why did it take him three months to drop it then? It’s been suggested he continued with his action because he wanted to find out who was speaking to the Telegraph so that he could sue the backside off them. Total sleazebag. Although no-one is saying Philip did anything criminal, there are some people struggling to understand the difference between sexual assault and unwanted groping.

“Although no-one is saying Philip did anything criminal,”
Yesterday you were saying that TopShop should be shut down.
Johnny
TopShop is criminal,it’s comits so many crimes against good taste-on those grounds I’d close it:)
Beautiful Saturday, try enjoy it Ro,all this ‘gotcha’ can’t be good for your health at your age.
Eoin
Sssh Johnny, you should only boycott a store etc when there is criminality involved, social pressure has nothing to do with it.
Eoin
€15,000
That’s how much Dublin City University paid to be included on the Dublin edition of Monopoly, reports Catherine Sanz in the Times Ireland. She’s been trying to get that info for months with DCU refusing her requests for info citing commercial sensitivity. They’ve relented.
Spaghetti Hoop
It’s just marketing. If three new students decide to pay for their degree with DCU then it’s paid for itself. I see nothing wrong with this.
rotide
That’s all??
That figure has got to be missing a zero/ If it isn’t, that’s the best deal DCU will ever get.
Eoin
The UK, which doesn’t yet have any trade deals with third countries is accused of strong-arming poorer nations with threats, reports the Independent below. “Namibian beef”? Isn’t foot and mouth disease endemic there? Doesn’t affect humans mind. And nor does chlorinated chicken. Brexit, yummy.
“Among them are Ghana, which relies on banana sales, Mauritius (tuna), Kenya (flowers), Cote d’Ivoire (cocoa), Namibia (grapes and beef), Swaziland (sugar), and scores of other developing countries in Africa, the Caribbean and Central America.”
That reduces tariffs and quotas on the imports compared to if those countries traded with the EU under WTO terms. If the UK want to continue with this trade they will have to do so under WTO. And the WTO rules do not permit favourable tariffs to one country over another, which means no special bi-lateral deals. The Kenyan flowers get cut, packed, refrigerated and flown to the UK and to the Netherlands a couple of times a week. And labour costs are so low there, M&S and British florists get them at a far cheaper price than they would from the Netherlands. So 2018 won’t be a ‘good year for the roses’ in the UK.

The hack of Danielle Westbrook.
Daisy Chainsaw
She’s certainly a poster girl for the anti drugs campaign. Her face is imploding so badly she’ll look like Bottomface if she gets to 50.
Andyourpointiswhatexactly?
I’m only impressed if she’s talking about Tesco Bags for Life.
SOQ
I kind of feel sorry for here because she is clearly messed up and, like a lot of other people who tasted fame at such a young age, it is very hard to become just a normal person again. She keeps doing these TV programs for money, like having the teeth implants or this carry on but I don’t think she is a bad sort, just a lost soul.
Johnny
Just a FYI as this old school Irish lobbying group is regaining prominence. The grotesque, crass and nouveau American Ireland Fund has finally imploded over embarrassing, allegations of poor or no governance and embezzlement. With its demise this OG lobbying group has re-emerged as a player, its Democratic heavy but has a few Republicans on it.The Brit fantasy of a fast track trade deal with US will die a slow death in the Ways and Means committee run by prominent Irish American Richie Neal.
Richie is a well like and highly respected Democrat from Massachusetts, with a low tolerance for all the BS talk about the Brits getting a fast track US trade deal, get in line.
Anyone know how a lowly Lord Mayor got his hands on €1 million to pay off a debt to Bank of Ireland? Lord Mayor of Dublin, FFer Nial Ring was able to pull a very pricey bunny out of the hat at the High Court yesterday.
“Ms Conneely, who appeared with Business and Commercial Solicitors, told Judge Jacqueline Linnane the extent of the new funds and where and how they had been raised could not be divulged on the basis it may breach data protection legislation. She said funds capable of meeting all outstanding debts owed to the bank and its legal costs had been lodged with Mr Ring’s solicitors and were ready to be transferred to Bank of Ireland Mortgage Bank.”

I’d think that the FF tds are getting many such requests from de constituencies to jettison MM himself.
The Examiner offers a useful précis in relation to timelines and key communications.
