This morning.

Outside the Dáil.

Insect populations are crashing, so the good news is catastrophic ecological devastation will probably kill those children before climate change. So there will be no more children and climate change won’t matter. Hope that makes you happy

Presuming your ‘scepticism’ is supported by peer reviewed research that you are about to provide?

      1. Northern Pole Cats

Insect catastrophe is more of the usual fake news. Another lame appeal to the false authority of bad science masquerading as the real deal. It’s hearsay – the currency of the demented.

        1. Ian-O

Can you provide links to debunk it so?

There has been a definite decline in certain insects in Ireland alone and we are certainly not as polluted as some parts of the world and for all we still have a huge amount of our economy devoted to farming, nowhere near the levels of pesticides that are used in the likes of the US.

Bee’s, grasshoppers and butterflies are definitely on the decrease. I read of lot of science journals and websites and they have been talking about this for far longer than the mainstream media.

There are also problems with amphibians, frogs in particular but other species are under threat. Like a jumper, you can pull a thread out here or there and still have a wearable jumper and the same is true of us losing a species here or there (its believed many species die out permanently every day), we can, as an eco system, cope with it. The problem is when certain species, like bees, take a huge step back, sure the eco system can and most likely will, bounce back, but we are talking geological time frames heres and the human die back could be immense. So yes, species die out, thats true, but its the rate its happening that is the issue.

Try farming without bees and other pollinators and let us know how you get on and in the meantime, produce your evidence this is fake news.

“Can you provide links to debunk it so?”

Actually the onus in on those who make outrageous claims to provide evidence for these claims.

If you claim insects/bees/frog populations are in decline then you will need to substantiate your claim. Only then can we examine the details and logic of what you present.

Otherwise you’re just making stuff up to conform to your own bias and your claims may be dismissed with full prejudice.

          2. Northern Pole Cats

Nigel fails to present evidence. His claims are worthless. Feel free to ignore him in all future discussion on this topic.

          3. Nigel

Evidence has been presented and you know where to find it ‘m sorry it isn’t a bootube video by Alex Jones I know anything else doesn’t count

Your a bottomhole. Its not hearsay. how many times have you had to wash dead bugs from your windscreen in the last year compared to 10 years ago? And spare me some smartarse troll answer. Scientists around the world have been warning about this for years. As usual the stories are mocked by throw away pop up account holder like you ‘Northern Pole Cats.’ If Broadsheet took as much environmental reasonability deleting dangerously idiotic comments like yours then they did protecting overly sensitive users who cant take a joke about body image or suicide and pointlessly changing rude words (see the third word of this post) then I wouldn’t have to waste my time with you. The planet is being destroyed by big corporations who are more powerful than governments and don’t give a shit . Your just a troll spreading misinformation, and I’m happy to see at least some kids out there actually care.

          1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

I hadn’t thought about the windscreen thing. It used to be a running joke about my windscreen after driving from Dublin to Cork years back. Haven’t had that issue in a long time. Bloody hell.

          2. Dhaughton99

The window screen doesn’t collect many bugs anymore due to the aerodynamics of the car. Look at the front of a truck vs a car.

          3. postmanpat

HA!! , the “aerodynamics of the car” have changed!! Where did yo get that ridiculous answer from? a executive auto convention ? The Economist magazine?. I’ve been driving the same car for ten years, the difference in bug catching is noticeable. Go collect your cheque from BMW! The aerodynamics of “the car” !! Priceless!!!!

            The only insect study in this article that attempts to link insect population decline to “climate change” is the rather dubious Puerto Rico study which has been technically dismantled here;

In essence the Puerto Rico study misrepresents faulty data

“The only reliable data, which is data since Sep 1992, shows a significant cooling trend, casting further doubt on Lister & Garcia’s assessments. Indeed, we might ask whether it is this cooling that has been responsible for the decline in arthropods. In short, the whole basis of the paper is undermined by the significantly flawed temperature data used. As such we request that you withdraw the paper.”

          2. Nigel

Insect population decline is not generally linked to climate change, but to pollution, habitat destruction, overuse of insecticides and pesticides in intensive agriculture, and the sad unwillingness of people to emulate Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis. Even though you are a cockroach.

          1. Cian

            We’re killing *their* planet too.
And they will be around longer – so it will affect them more – HAHAHA

  1. Spaghetti Hoop

You can’t protest against climate change – you can only protest FOR mitigation and adaptation measures to address climate change.

    1. Ian-O

      I see.

A home made youtube video versus the likes of the BBC, New Scientist, American Scientific and literally thousands and thousands (if not millions) of peer reviewed scientific journals.

Thanks Poley! All this time I was listening to scientists when I should have been listening to the modern version of the pub bore.

      1. postmanpat

The guy is a waspy religious nut. He belongs in Breitbart news. He popped up here a few days ago . He a pro-lifer and a climate change denier, just wait until the next broadsheet article about trans or gays and see which way he leans.

        1. millie st murderlark

This is my old pal Zuppy aka Sentient Won aka CO2 Rocks… and so on.

You see the pattern, I’ve no doubt.

He hates global warming, abortions, liberals, and any kind of logic whatsoever. I’m assuming he’s an anti-vaxxer and a flat-earther too.

        2. Northern Pole Cats

Funny how liars are always triggered by the truth.

Human’s produce 3% of all CO2 in the atmosphere which isn’t even the main green house gas. It’s not man made CO2 that’s causing climate change: To claim it is defies logic, data and the scientific method.

Climate changes – get over it.

          1. Papi

Given that you have yet to present any logic or facts, I would have to say no. But you have all day there, champ. Baby steps.

          2. Papi

Yep, my crèche teacher tells me to lie to internet trolls about the utter bullpuckey they spout regularly. Not a bad gig. Why do you do what you do or is the need indescribably beyond you?

    2. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

      “Edwin Reimer

If the atmosphere traps the warm air in, then it would also prevent the warm air from getting in and we would be having an ice age. These climate change people just don’t think things through.”

      Well, there you have it.

      1. Ian-O

So we are being denied the balmy solar winds? I blame the magnetosphere myself – how much cosmic radiation are we being denied by bloody nature and stuff?

It’s just not right. Not. Right.

        1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

          Civil partner, maybe.
You can’t say ANYTHING for fear of the PC Gowrdee these days.

  2. Truth in the News

Perhaps its time to establish if climate change was responsible for the floating
iceberg that sunk the Titanic in 1912…..?
