I think this is weird. The name is meaningless. If I’m looking at icons to call a cab[1]
    – Hail0: is kinda linked to hailing a taxi; 6/10
    – MyTaxi: totally understandable: 10/10
    – FreeNow: WTF? 0/10

The service is also pants, its a waste of time most of the time.

[1] or even hail a taxi.

I used hailo all the time when it was a thing, became Mytaxi and it went to hell.

They say they fixed the issues, but at 5PM on a saturday afternoon in Lucan a few weeks ago me and the wife both tried for over 30 minutes to secure a cab. Eventually gave up and walked in the direction of the N4 and got one that way.

I expect this name change will also indicate a further decrease in service?

I can’t help but feel like they’ve spent far too much on whatever agency came up with both the name AND the logo.

It’s part of a bigger plan (final solution?) that two German car firms are part of:

      https://www.siliconrepublic.com/companies/mytaxi-free-now-bmw-daimler

From the below, it’s one fifth of the new group:

The pair said they are investing more than €1bn in total to develop to more closely intermesh their offerings for car-sharing, ride-hailing, parking, charging and multimodal transport. These five joint ventures will come under five new names including Reach Now for multimodal services, Charge Now for charging, Free Now for taxi ride-hailing, Park Now for parking and Share Now for car-sharing.

I still agree it’s a pants name, but it probably works best over all the countries involved.

“SHARE NOW, REACH NOW, PARK NOW and CHARGE NOW are also a part of the “new brand family”, but none of these companies currently operate in Ireland.”

Makes it slightly better but surely there was a more apposite prefix to use than “FREE”?

Hailo was such a reasonable name, for an app that just worked so well.

Mytaxi was a fine name, but for an app they really wrecked. Just made it so unreliable.

This is an absolutely awful generic name. I can only fear how bad the app is going to become.

Ha ha ha! Freenow !? Whats a joke. Bunch of Gowls. Who came up with that hot failure of a name?

Hailo was the best name they had. Idiots

And look at the new logo and colour scheme. Its horrendous.

      Shame, Shame, SHAME!!

Hailo was an actual verb in regular usage when they decided the change the name. Totally insane decision, you cannot buy that kind of brand value.

Awful branding, it reminds me of clients who want to control the design too much and are not designers themselves, or companies who allow design by committee and all those opinions just become a mess and nobody is happy.

You need a good designer who won’t back down or compromise whatsoever.
