Nothing from the Irish Daily Mail yet? They were spoiling us the past few days on Broadsheet sending in the front page. Was it so we’d think it’s still a relevant paper despite falling in the ABC audit? Query: did the person who sends in the front page take voluntary redundancy? The paper is, after all, looking for 35 people to avail of it.

i take that back .., there’s the front page.

What are the National Gallery supposed to do take down the painting? Maybe they hadn’t noticed or even remembered that one of their paintings was donated by a now convicted paedophile? How many paintings came from the catholic church?
Brother Barnabas
“How many paintings came from the catholic church?”
unless they received top dollar for it, none.

Maduro’s government not taking the bait and, rather than arrest Guaido, letting him move freely in Venezuela upon his return there. Is some kind of false flag now imminent? https://twitter.com/GeorgeSzamuely/status/1102666249325240322
“A false-flag act of terror is the greatest danger now. Nothing has worked so far. The military have stuck by Maduro. It was the sniper massacre orchestrated by the (Ukranian) “opposition” that proved Yanukovych’s undoing. Something similar is very likely in Venezuela.”

The disgraced former justice minister Frances Fitzgerald has also, with Mark Durkan, been selected for FG for the Dublin constituency in the European Parliament elections in May. Fitzgerald misled the Dail about Sgt Maurice McCabe and Leo fired her. Is Europe to be her reward?

Most mainstream media reporting refers to Guaido being “recognised by more than 50 countries”, this from the BBC, but nearly all media is reporting the same line.
“Mr Guaidó – who heads the opposition-led National Assembly and proclaimed himself Venezuela’s acting president after the legislature declared Mr Maduro’s May 2018 re-election illegitimate – has been recognised by more than 50 countries. ”
It was Simon Coveney on a visit to Washington DC who decided, on our behalf, to recognise Guaido in the following terms
“In the absence of such an announcement, I join other EU Member States in acknowledging and supporting Mr. Juan Guaidó, President of the democratically elected National Assembly, as President ad interim of Venezuela, in order for him to call for free, fair and democratic presidential elections.”
The Big I-am Coveney thinks the plebs in Ireland aren’t aware that Guaido didn’t contest last year’s presidential elections which were approved by the US Carter Centre. Did Coveney think we’d be fooled by him calling Guaido “President of the democratically elected National Assembly”, that’s just the speaker of the Venezuelan govt. In the Dail Deputy Maureen O’Sullivan pointed this out last month
“Deputy Maureen O’Sullivan
A Cheann Comhairle, perhaps you as speaker here would like to proclaim yourself President at some point and expect the rest of Europe to recognise you.

11am in Galway this morning, the Supreme Court will issue its ruling on DOBvDAIL and if the courts can intervene after Catherine Murphy and Pearse Doherty revealed details of DOB’s banking details in the Dail.
Funny that we don’t appear to have realised that we probably (not definitely because there are further rulings expected next month) have a constitutional crisis after the Angela Kerins rulings last week with the courts deciding they can hold utterances at Committees to be unlawful.
All utterances in the Dail, Seanad and Committees are supposed to be invulnerable to intervention by the courts. If DOB gets his way this morning, we definitely have a constitutional crisis.
Art 15(13) of our Constitution says
“The members of each House of the Oireachtas shall, except in case of treason as
defined in this Constitution, felony or breach of the peace, be privileged from
arrest in going to and returning from, and while within the precincts of, either
House, and shall not, in respect of any utterance in either House, be amenable to
any court or any authority other than the House itself.”

More fallout in Derry about Mark Durkan’s defection to FG.
“party founding member Ivan Cooper said he believed Mr Durkan’s move was the correct one. He said he did not agree with the SDLP’s new relationship with Fianna Fail.”
Lot of upset amongst SDLPers about the tie-up with FF. Many think the hasty convention in Newry last month where the tie-up was approved didn’t give the SDLP members sufficient time to consider the tie-up. There have been senior resignations.
No doubt Derek Mooney will be all over this in his weekly column….

Nah
I reckon political opportunism was Mark Durkan’s only motivation here

The Daily Star is on the Ball I see. Knife crime in the UK is out of control! How do they stop teens from carrying knives? Are they encouraging each other to stab opposing gangs on social media? Why would someone randomly stab a teenage girl in the back in a park? Its nuts.
