At this stage, May should do a Cameron – walk away and tell them to sort their own mess out.

    1. MaryLou's ArmaLite

she has 2 more votes over the next 2 days it is then likely the commons will have voted to:
      reject the withdrawal agreement
      reject no deal
      extend article 50

      then walk.

It’s her mess too, she insisted on her “red lines”, she has never stood up to the brexiteer rump

    3. Giggidygoo

She may well do a Cameron. Cameron called the referendum, and he isn’t suffering the consequences of the result. May can retract Article 50 as a referendum in the UK is not legally binding. She might get some flak for a while, but give it a year and she will be lost in the mists like Cameron.
What is left now, mind you, is a divided Britain, a divided UK., no matter what the outcome is.

…the only option is for Article 50 letter to be withdrawn and the democratic wishes of people in the UK will be ignored…a golden opportunity for the north has been squandered and the DUP will claim victory…

In a hilarious turn of events the UK government has this morning announced some of their plans for a No Deal Sasamach which include putting a customs border in the Irish Sea!

How do you like them apples Arleen?

Poor Theresa May, she looks shattered in all of those front page pics. By contrast, the perma-sozzled president of the EC was in the European Parliament yesterday mischievously joking “Mrs May kept me up last night”. If Tess didn’t like the “nebulous” comment, she won’t like the suggestion of rumpy-pumpy.

Nothing poor about her: this is entirely of her own making. She can swivel on it.

Times Ireland reports today about the intro of excess water charges, max of €500 per customer per year.

“It is estimated that about 94,500 out of the 1.35 million domestic customers could be liable for the new charges, which are expected to come in next year and will be reviewed in 2024.”

    60% of households are metered.

The chairman of the company owned by our favorite Russian oligarch (which owns the Aughinish refinery in Limerick which is a massive regional employer) was before the foreign affairs committee of the British parliament. If you thought Robert Watt was bolshie in front of our PAC last week, it was nothing compared to (Lord) Greg Barker. He was quizzed about his links to Oleg Deripaska who now controls 45% of Rusal and the stock market launch of the company. He stopped just (just!) short of telling MPs to fupp off and who were they to be asking him questions.

Teens in Ireland live in one of the most pressurized societies in Europe! The bullying, the drinking, the exams, the money, the instagram/facebook anxiety, pressure to have sex, body image, the pressure to keep up with their peers, while their parents and parents of their peers are busy trying to keep up with the Jones’s so to speak, borrowing money to look more successful than they are.

also, with both parents obliged to be full-time workers – children don’t get to spend the same amount of time with their parents as they might traditionally have had in the past. Bound to lead to dysfunctionality

          1. Lilly

It is a long day for them. A lot of kids don’t even get holidays, going to sports camps instead because their parents have to work. It’s not easy for them.

        1. Junkface

Yes, the dysfunctional system that Ireland currently has (Free market solutions for almost everything) is closer to the US than Europe. The Child care costs alone would give you panic attacks, then there’s the screwed up Health service, of course Housing prices are fantasy, rent is extortion, the insurance industry has been extortion for years also. Corruption and price fixing in all areas of Government also increases with this system. Free markets cannot fix a House building Crisis, only Government funded projects can. Our education system has been underfunded for years especially in Science & Technology.

It all adds up, the pressures on the parents in society is pushed onto the kids without knowing. Its no surprise that teen suicide rates have gone up. Irish people have to ask themselves, do they want to be like the USA or Europe? I know which one I would pick.

We have designed our society, or allowed it to be shaped, around the needs of businesses and corprorations, and not people and families. Economic success is increasingly divorced from the convenience or well-being of the people who live here.

          1. Junkface

True. I fear that successive Irish Governments have used deliberate US Taxation loopholes (designed by Billionaires legal teams) to build our economy on. Every gigantic US company in Ireland will embrace Automation as much as possible, leaving half of Ireland’s workforce unemployed over the next 10 years. That includes Bank workers, Legal Firms and office clerks too, all automated, what will we do then? What would a universal monthly income look like in Ireland if that was taken on board, €3000? How would people pay their rent, mortgage, childcare, bills? Its all coming, and fast.

This thread has left me awful depressed and it is too early in the day to eat copious amounts of ice cream.

          3. Junkface

Ha ha! Sorry Millie, I don’t mean to be gloomy. I just want Ireland to look at the very latest in Technology advances and start planning realistically and hopefully we won’t be hit too hard, and everyone would be happier.

I have really gotten into the Ice Cream lately too, especially with the wafers

Did you see the story yesterday about the lady who had a stroke while her partner was performing oral sex on her? Jaykers tonight.

-comments say it all,the worst part my job is propuct sampling, actually we have two chaps (college students) who are specialists-anyone for “shatter” it’s dabbing…
I take a pass on most then but this I tried and it truly is amazing-they can’t keep it on the shelves in LA-some alternatives coming market shorty.
For too long the “weed” business was dominated by a bro culture, bongs, big pre rolled joints.
Lately quite a few higher end companies have introduced products for women-it’s about time.

More than happy ship some Foria-but probably best to a PO BOX as it contains THC-they have a CBD only one, haven’t tried it-not even sure if CBD is allowed in Ireland.
New personal lubricant coming out soon from Her Highness (not on sale yet) it is even better-stronger:)

My mucker nieces and nephew sound like they’re from The Valley (the California one). It’s comical.

      1. millie st murderlark

My young one sounds like a combination of North dub and North Californian, and occasionally Cbeebies TV presenter.

        So now.

        1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

Heh. We’ve a mix of accents in the house: Cork (obv) then the West. At the moment she’s veering towards the questioning tone? Which really annoys me? If she starts getting all “Hoi, goys”, I’ll bate that outta her.

this is seems noteworthy article for those still following the Venezuelan crisis.
‘ A September 2010 memo (released by Wikileaks) by a US-funded soft power organization that helped train Venezuelan coup leader Juan Guaido and his allies identifies the potential collapse of the country’s electrical sector as “a watershed event” that “would likely have the impact of galvanizing public unrest in a way that no opposition group could ever hope to generate.” ‘
