Shannon Key West Hotel, Rooskey, Co Roscommon

The Department of Justice has confirmed that a plan to provide an accommodation centre for asylum seekers at a disused hotel in Rooskey, Co Leitrim, will not now go ahead.

An issue over the lease of the property, which was damaged in two arson attacks in the last four months, is the reason not to proceed.

Racism is the reason it not going ahead. And not by the majority of people, they actually put good points forward, its the scum who think its ok to try burn down a building.

Actually I can see why there would be an issue with the lease. The property has already been damaged twice and that’s before anyone actually has a chance to move in. If I owned that property, my risk assessment would tell me that it’s likely that there would possibly be more damage done to the property and I would be adding penalties to the lease in the event of any damage being caused. It’s quite reasonable on their part.

What’s not reasonable is being one of the people who did the damage because you don’t want (to quote Moe Szyslak) “dem immigants” moving in.

Justice Dept were premature in announcing this hotel as a provision centre when there was on going legal dispute between the owner/ potential buyer/ potential lease holder. Roaring &shouting & discord & allegations of racism was a complete & utter waste of time at this location in said circumstances.

Might be for the best , asylum seekers may not have been safe there… central government might consider defunding their council, they cant be comfortable with the foreign cash from taxpayers in Dublin ….

When you have Gemma threatening to have people “taken in hand and sorted out for once and for all”, it makes sense. All it takes is one person’s initiative… we saw the tragic results of that in Christchurch.
