So are sweetcorn, but they’re classified as a grain.

I had them all as fruit, except the mushroom (a fungus) because they are all the produce of a pollinated flower, which I understood to be the definition of fruit.

Every day is a school day!

They all are except the mushroom which isn’t part of a plant. A vegetable is an edible part of a plant. It is not a biological term and covers a range of botanical parts.

I think the carrot infinitely more fascinating than the geranium. There is a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ about a firm, young carrot…

The one I always enjoy is celery. Celery is not, by definition, a food, and therefore my distaste of the stuff is justified on a scientific level :)

i once read that you expend more calories than you ingest when eating lettuce
sitting on your ar$e eating an entire head of lettuce is apparently equivalent to going on a 6km run at moderate pace
      so there

I read somewhere that the energy expended by cracking open a cold one and drinking it while munching Doritos uses up more calories than a half marathon.

Oh, yeah maybe that was it.

Or was it half a marathon, rather than a half marathon?
