I would accept the free pint from a Healy Rae as long as I don’t have to talk to any of them or look at them or be in the same room as them.

All those degenerate boozers will be picked up in a mini bus and given a “free” lift on election day. And most will be shamed into accepting the lift. Wonderful country , people voting under the influence.

I’d accept the lift too. They could throw all the free stuff they want at me. I would still not vote for them, or feel obliged to.

You’ll find a lot of people can be motivated by free booze no matter how boring the situation. Businesses often hold do’s with a free* bar for their staff who are on minimum wage because a grand thrown behind the bar every 4 months is cheaper than paying a proper wage. (*free for about 2 pints each before the tab runs out and attendance is semi-compulsory)

there is a tale of haughey on the election trail in 1977 at a time when the ra were robbing kegs of guinness from trains bound for the north. charlie is reputed to have ‘acquired’ the services of some of the boyos, who would arrive at a pub with a free keg for the landllord the day before the great man was due for an ‘unscheduled’ visit. ‘pints are on me’ he would exclaim to much back-slapping and vote promises. them healey-raes didn’t lick it off a stone

Did you miss last week’s witticisms on that very subject?

You are not alone in thinking that

Named after his late granda, a pro at self promotion. During the boom times he usually was posing with his arm draped around some poor model, with a lecherous look on his face.

So many that if they all vote for each other, all of them get elected.

This dynastic trend isn’t confined to the in-breds of Kerry.
Remember we also had the Lenihans; and I believe there’s a third-generation Haughey running in North Dublin.
But yeah, the Healy-Reas must be one of the most prolific political families?

Yup, they’re everywhere. The Healy-Rae’s are just the most brazen so they’ve become representative of the worst in Irish politics.
