A 12-year-old girl from Co Mayo has challenged the Taoiseach on the Government’s National Broadband Plan. Aoibheann Mangan approached Leo Varadkar at the opening of #Inspirefest. Until recently, Aoibheann has been going to a Tesco car park to access WiFi for school projects etc pic.twitter.com/cCk2nO6Mcu

She told the Taoiseach that broadband provision in rural Ireland remained a “big problem” and she asked him how long people are going to have to wait. “It’s not fair that people in Dublin get access to everything. Everyone should have those opportunities,” she said.
Seems legit.
*stares into abyss*

I hate this crap. Obviously put up to it by their parents.
Leo should have asked if she is happy to stump up the 12k for her own personal broadband. Or maybe tell her to ask why her parents decided to bring her up in the middle of nowhere.
Ah give over
Hardly the middle of nowhere
If Tesco’s are there
And d’ya know what
The demand for this needs to come from kids like Aoibheann
turns out she’s enda kenny’s niece
coincidence
Ah no
Yer codding me
Are ya
There all related down the country. Folks are probably, at least, second cousins.
yeah. done like a KBC morkeshing manager boss little person.
ah Frillz, I thought you were a healthy cynic. You’re losing your edge a bit.
another Ricky Gervais level cringe from the tool who just can’t help himself.
like something a pvc windows salesman would try to sell another conseveratory wha
Any relation to the ‘thank you’ card writer that was read out in Europe? Or the ‘two pints’ lad?
Until recently she has had to go to Tesco. So obviously she now has access herself then?
Daddy topped up her credit.
Tesco Wi-Fi?
I can only imagine the state of her spam folder
Oh, this completely justifies Leo spending 3billion on an State asset and handing it over to a private company..
whore
Leo. not the child
Crikey.
I’d thought Leo’s hatred of the homeless and of the poor would resonate with penny
you think dave?
based on you objections to giving food to the homeless, yes.
“It’s not fair that people in Dublin get access to everything. Everyone should have those opportunities”
Ball to that, you pay a premium to live close to population centers where there are more services, you can’t expect to pay feck all for a house in the country and expect the same level of services.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t look at getting better internet around the country but 3bn is an excessive amount to be delivering it to every last tom, dick and harry. There has to be a limit and a balance between money spent and the greater good
@Stephen
tis another spin attempt from the pvc windows salesman, read above
I’m not saying we shouldn’t look at getting better internet around the country but 3bn is an excessive amount to be delivering it to every last tom, dick and harry not to be covered by Eir.
There fixed for you Stephen- Your’e welcome.
The RTÉ news headline for the story is “Taoiseach taken to task by 12-year-old over broadband”
Christ … just blatant.
Aoibheann, only €14 million has been squandered, apologies, spent to date on KPMG and PwC for consultancy reports. There’ll have to be at least €6 million more given away to the boys before work on the €5 billion broadband project can be given to the other boys. 5 course dinners and champagne all round nod nod wink wink.
This was one of the main stories on the RTE website today.
A random 12-year old said she wanted broadband in rural areas. And RTE reported it. As a main story.
I don’t believe that’s even a real child

pulls on the auld fiber cables of me heart!, still, more effective than a bedraggled middle aged business man from Mayo cap in hand to Leo.
