Chains were never going to be a good fit for him, his whole brand is fairly simple food done very well, if it’s not Jamie doing the cooking then it’s just fairly simple food done reasonably well. Which I could get in Wetherspoons if I had a mind to.

“Approachable cuisine”. I hate when people mangle language like that.

tough business. I don’t know what possesses someone (especially in that trade) to want to be an empire builder….the money side doesn’t make any sense whatsoever…you’d have to fill every seat you have every hour of the day to make any kind of honest money else you’re losing.

I’m amazed he lasted this long, he’s been in trouble a long time now…he’s in very good company, plenty of fellow celeb chefs with war wounds.

have to say a fair few of his book recipes are go to for me, very reliable & simple

    best of luck to him

I agree. He put a fair few bob into the business to make sure his suppliers wouldn’t be burned last year and I really admire what he’s done for school dinners etc in the UK. I think he thought some last-minute deal would come along to save the business. He’s a decent guy, I think.

Someone should take that “Big Book of Baby Names” off him though….

I think the extent to which the naming of children by the English has slipped into lunacy over the last twenty years or so is only now beginning to register on the other side of the Irish Sea.

it’s growing like Japanese Knotweed over here though, traditional surnames for Christian names seems to be a relatively new thing.

…err…you’ve never been to norn iron…the ‘christians’ all their kids with surnames…

          3. The Old Boy

Quite right, Bisted, I (probably by force of will) forgot about my more fundamentalist brethren.

Sorry Bisted, I keep thinking Broadsheet is like Hill16 – Dublin only :)

Jayz. I forgot about them. Total dick move to do that to your kids. I hope he put a welly-load of cash into trust for them so they can just coast along and be the kids that kids with those names probably would be.

i think if the most extreme example of somebody being ‘out for you’ is some mild wikipedia vandalisation then you’re doing alright

Pretty sure Jamie’s Italian, Dundrum had UK all over its menu and Broadsheet posted a ‘Was it for This’.
