They’ll bandy around the figures for the next couple of years to ensure everyone pockets a few bob in the process.

Haven’t heard FG complain about FF and the eVoting €50+ million wasted for a while. Wasn’t that some scandal eh?
The eVoting machines that were introduced on a trial basis for the 2002 general election (used in Dublin North, Dublin West and Meath). There were no issues reported then (except people didn’t like the way the results were published all together and wanted it done on a round-by-round basis to keep the excitement).
After the successful trial the government went national and got more machines. At that stage everyone started to complain about them. In isn’t fair to blame the (FF) government of the day for that.
But that’s what your beloved FG did. When it suited them it was ‘fair’. And now you’re wriggling to try humour your actual real coalition partners – after all its their support that keeps FG in power.
You’re missing the point.
The government introduced eVoting machines in a sensible, structured way. The people should have objected on/after the 2002 election. But they didn’t. So the government went ahead and bought the machines. You shouldn’t blame the government for that.
It’s gas, I’m defending FF and you are twisting this into some FG ‘plot’.

Of course I brought it up in the context of the current FG 6,7,8,9 billion or more of Leprechaunomics where none of the leprechaun folk in government or in the departments have a clue about costs. €50+ million being lambasted by FG yet we get ‘it might cost €1000m less’ or ‘€2000m more’
And as regards people objecting – how? Not in the ballot box as the level these costs and gifts to FG owner weren’t part of any manifesto. They manifested themselves when the government couldn’t be changed.

Yes. Like they did after all the machines were bought. The same people that stopped the use of the machines after they were purchased could have stopped it before they were all bought (and saved €50 million in the process). The objections to the machines (lack of audit trail, openness to fraud, etc) would have been equally valid before the bulk were bought.
