Surprised by comments by some today that Frances Fitzgerald was “exonerated by Judge Charleton”

In the words of Mick Clifford, the print journalist who did more than anyone to highlight the Sgt Maurice McCabe scandals, and AFTER the Charleton report was published last year:

“She had to resign because she misrepresented the extent of her knowledge about what went on in 2015, she was slow in answering legitimate questions, her briefing to the Taoiseach saw him mislead the Dáil, and her department failed to discover important documents to the Disclosures Tribunal. Now Fine Gael wants to brush over that reality and claim the political high ground. “

So, there was one ballot box to contain all ballot papers. It will be opened tomorrow, and the divorce referendum will be counted in the morning, and the locals in the afternoon. And, from my area, the EU ones will be brought to Cork for counting on Sunday.
Which begs a question – those EU votes are no longer in a ballot box and their security is now compromised. Am I correct!

Yes it would look that way, I would have thought they are opened once in full view of those present and then processed until every slip of paper is accounted for and to the satisfaction of all count center staff. You could reseal the box but it leaves it open to interference I would imagine. Then again, this is Ireland, we do things differently.

BTW Is there any system(s) in place to detect if a ballot has been compromised. Like a decoy box with known contents which is checked to see if it remains intact?
