surely there’s another way to get informed

Ok well the main thing I read from this glossy PR interview with Lorcan O’Connor- the new head of CIÉ, is that they are going to sell some of the vacant land around Hueson Station for redevelopment.
CIÉ are claiming near bankruptcy and yet, they have extremely valuable swaths of land just sitting idle. Claiming some sort of Green or environmental credentials for doing what they should have done a long time ago is a bit- yeah whatever.
It’s like when you are at college and you whinge to your mammy about having no money and she curtly tells you that you better look around and find a few things to sell- at least that’s what mine did, and she was right.
Or you could take the view that they are deciding to sell at the peak of the market, having missed the opportunity during the previous bubble.
Hopefully any land sold will be used for housing.

Another sewage leak from Ringsend which makes many south Dublin beaches unusable and creates an environment hazard for all.
At least this time, they’re not calling it “activated sludge” or “urban waste water”. It’s pee and poo and in 2019, this sort of thing in the Republic of Ireland is not acceptable.
Irish Water is responsible. The CEO of Irish Water is Liam O’Sullivan. The Department of Housing, Community and Local Government, under Eoghan Murphy, is primarily responsible for Irish Water (John Bruton in environment and Michael Ring in rural development also have an input)

Most of the papers are leading with extracts from a European agency (who funds it, I don’t know, but have a sneaking suspicion it’s us) report on recreational drugs.
Large numbers nearly 25% if I’m reading it right of those entering rehab primarily have cannabis problems. We’re #3 in Europe for opioid use. Across Europe, the war on drugs is being comprehensively lost.

50 years since the Stonewall riots in NY and for the first time, the NY police say soz.
A year since Pete Taylor was shot and seriously injured in an attack on his boxing gym in Bray, he’s suing everyone, the Irish Times, the publishers of the Indo, Sindo, Herald and Sunday World, publishers of the Irish Mail and Mail on Sunday, the Sunday World journalist Nicola Tallant, the Mail journalist Ali Bracken. He’s even suing the Garda Commissioner.
Last year, he was suing because he was unhappy with some of the reporting which followed the shooting at the gym. It’s not clear what he’s suing for in the past few days.
Anyone want to hazard a guess as to Katie’s purse last weekend in NY? Her promoter was talking about “million dollar baby” and the Belgian opponent was in line for “a probable six-figure cheque”. Why so coy, aren’t these financial rewards usually well publicised? What’s the manager’s cut?
ReproBertie
I don’t know how much Katie got for the fight but I hope it was more than enough to cover the costs of her training camp and leave her with a very healthy bank balance. I’m sure her manager was adequately looked after as well which is only fitting as he was the one who put in the work to make the fight and get it on the undercard of such a big event.
Hopefully the rematch will earn them both even more, which it may well do if it’s on the undercard for Joshua Ruiz Jr II.
MaryLou's ArmaLite
Why should Katie tell you how much she earned?

Pope wants to change the “Our Father” prayer, specifically “lead us not into temptation” will say, if the Pope has his way, “do not let us fall into temptation”
“It [the current wording] is not a good translation because it speaks of a God who induces temptation…I am the one who falls. It’s not him pushing me into temptation to then see how I have fallen…A father doesn’t do that; a father helps you to get up immediately. It’s Satan who leads us into temptation – that’s his department.”
“Satan’s department”?
The Old Boy
Does this apply to languages other than English? The pattern of the Lord’s Prayer has remained largely unchanged since the first Old English translations. The biggest change seems to have come with the Book of Common Prayer in 1549, where the words “debts” and “our debtors” in Matthew 6:12 were rendered as “trespasses” and “them that trespass against us”. The King James translation, on which the Book of Common Prayer was based, used “debts”, while “trespasses” was used by the older New Testament translation undertaken by William Tyndale in 1526.
The 1929 edition of the Book of Common Prayer used the slightly modernised text that is now familiar to Catholics and Protestants alike. Late twentieth century modernisations, used in some Anglican churches, changed “trespasses” to “sins”.

I think he is changing the Italian version too.
Andyourpointiswhatexactly?
Only the Italian version. Not the English.
Andyourpointiswhatexactly?
Apparently the original translation, from Greek (?), said “lead us not into temptation” so people are annoyed with his tinkering. I read this when I woke up this morning so am not sure of the deets.

I’m not speaking for Broadsheet but they offer an anonymous public forum.
I wouldn’t be surprised for them to have slightly different rules for the following:

Why won’t Undisputed Lightweight Champion of the World Katie Taylor fight in Ireland?
Contractual reasons.
“Ireland is not in the plans in the near future. Like Belgium, a fight in Dublin would not square with the commercial plans or contract Taylor has with sports streaming company DAZN.”
I’d wonder how much of that is for show. There’s no point in her sitting back quietly and waiting for people to offer her a rematch. She has to kick up a stink to get people talking about it and to make the rematch more attractive.
In other boxing news, Joe Ward has gone pro which is a blow to Ireland’s medal hopes for Tokyo.
