“You Told A Lie”

at

Yikes.

Earlier today.

The Dáil was suspended when Kerry Independent TD Michael Healy-Rae claimed Fine Gael Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe told a “lie” and that he wasn’t asked to join Government in 2016.

The row took place during a discussion about the tourism VAT rate.

Healy-Rae denies being asked to join Government: ‘I was not asked to dance’ (Marie O’Halloran, The Irish Times)

Is this piece of yelping parish-pump-pondlife not obliged to remove his (trademark) cap while in the Dail chamber?

of all the various things they do in there, caps or bright shirts wouldn’t be in the top 100 things to be concerned about.

if we had to call a halt to parliamentary proceedings every time a FG minister told a lie, we’d never get anything done

Ah, now, nobody stops the business just cos someone is lying… they throw the toys out of the pram for pointing out the lie, not the telling of it.

A dingdong Dail row – but sure there were only half a dozen deputies present in the chamber to enjoy it.

What’s the big deal, and why does it matter? FG appeared to ask any Independent they could find to join their govt. Zappone, Canney, Grealish, and of course Lowry all said yes. Zappone and Canney got their ministries, Grealish got his Galway ring road but poor auld Michael Lowry didn’t get anything, at all, at all.

Because it undermines his ability to complain about how the government run things if he was given the opportunity to be in said government, and help make decisions about how to run things himself, but turned it down. Not that there’s much left under him to undermine, to be fair…

Did Daffy tell a lie though ? He had a Leo type smirk that disappeared when MHR called him out. It matters as lies shouldn’t become the norm in the dail.
