Hatch Hall, Lower Hatch Street Dublin 2
Last night.
RTÉ reported:
“The Direct Provision Centre Hatch Hall, which is situated in Dublin city centre, will close next month.
“The Department of Justice says it is due to circumstances beyond the control of the Reception and Integration Agency (RIA).”
According to the Reception and Integration Agency, as of October 28, 2018, 223 people were living in Hatch Hall.

Oireachtas #DirectProvision hearings are remarkable. One company, Bridgestock, is paid about €6m/year to run two centres. About €100m since 2000. But majority shares transferred to a company offshored in the British Virgin Islands, so no public scrutiny of accounts or profits.

UPDATE:
Ok.
I used to live there in college, many years ago. Good old Jesuits.
Genuine question, read this recently – https://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/people/new-to-the-parish/i-ve-been-working-since-i-was-19-i-m-not-used-to-receiving-handouts-1.3900718
Why did this chap not claim asylum in Spain? Does the EU allow this?
Also he gives some good insights too. Fair play.
“Why did this chap not claim asylum in Spain?”
– why, indeed.
Any time a person living in DP’s story is featured in the media, it is invariably with a somewhat perplexing backstory.
blushirts must keep the vulture funds happy
And what village (s) haven’t been told yet that they’re receiving these people being dumped out?
banagher county Offaly – 20
dunkerrin county Offaly – 14
Or at least that’s the Renua Leahy chap said at a meeting of Offaly County Council this week.
Comes as unsettling news to the residents of the small town and village.
An awful cheaper for the taxpayer to house them there rather than Dublin.
So, good.
“circumstances beyond the control of the Reception and Integration Agency”
Ah gwan, tell us more! Shouldn’t we at least be told if it’s a technical reason?
Hatch Hall is owned by a private developer, so presumably he’s kicking them out. I’m guessing the market is now ripe for him to turn it into a hotel or student accommodation or whatever floats his boat.
Totally unimportant in the context, but Hatch Hall really is a beautiful piece of architecture. One of my favourite buildings in Dublin.
Should never have been used as a DP centre in the first place. The rent was probably ridiculous.
Owner selling up or developing the site, as they are entitled to do; not much of a story really.
Beautiful building. The location (and resultant no doubt sky high rent) mean it should never have been used for DP really.
Anti racist groups protesting deportations? So deportations are racist now are they? You better come up with a better reason for wanting to keep refugees/migrants fingered for deportation than ‘it’s racist’….if you can. That old racist label is ceasing to have any meaning due to misuse and over use.
