National Bike Week poster
This week is National Bike Week.
In addition, Dublin is hosting the Velo-City Conference – the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) annual global cycling summit – having last hosted it in 2005.
How’s that going?
Oh my god, that was quite an experience to get to @VelocitySeries by bike this morning! So many near-misses in such a short time! With this kind of infrastructure you have to be a warrior to get through! Still a long way to go for #Dublin for a #cycling4all City! @dublincycling

#Dublin seems to be a distinctive city: rough but symphathetic.
— But there is too much #car traffic. The city would be cosier if #walking and #cycling was prioritized. 🤔 #VC19 #smartmobility #cityplanning pic.twitter.com/vGvVYsIVyY— Tarja Jääskeläinen (@tarjanne) June 26, 2019
@guardiancities #cyclingcities #VC19 right outside @TheCCD. Unreadable by jogger & cyclists! @DubCityCouncil @IrishCycle @dublincycling @IBIKEDublin. @Shane_RossTD You fund this stuff! pic.twitter.com/qP1N8l1yck

Cycled in 30+ cities, mostly in in Europe. Dublin definitely the worst for safe cycle provision. Even the best protected path along the banks of the River Liffey spits you out at random intervals into oncoming traffic

Congratulations @DubCityCouncil on making existing infrastructure even more confusing and dangerous than it was in an effort to impress the foreigners. That takes something truly special and surely shows the clueless approach to cycling safety & infrastructure in the city. #VC19 pic.twitter.com/v3GwDg8cFL

In case this photo isn't real enough for people, how about this video. I call it "Let's find the bike lane" #VC19 #cycledublin pic.twitter.com/JeThzQDnzr

Oh.
Meanwhile…
Google HQ presenter: “we’re going to need Virtual Reality in Dublin for the next ten years because there’s no fucking infrastructure being built.” #vc19

Yikes.
Dublin disappoints: what happened to city cycling’s great hope? (The Guardian)
Yesterday: Brave And Foolish
Oul fella in the illustration refusing to wear helmet. Or indeed lycra.
Still can’t accept the govt thinks it’s a good idea to charge the lower VAT rate of 13.5% on “fuel (coal, heating oil, gas), electricity” with most electricity generated from burning carbon emitting fossil fuels.
http://www.moneyguideireland.com/vat-rates-in-ireland-to-increase.html
And at the same time, the govt decides that 23% is the appropriate rate for bikes, bike helmets, bike repairs.
Do you want the OAPs to freeze eoin?
Burn them for fuel
Through cryogenics?
* through the bike-to-work scheme you can get up to 52% off the price of a bike and related gear (including helmets, locks, etc.)
The bike to work scheme is exploited by fatsos to get cheap bikes for their kids, while they continue to drive to work.
I’ve never heard that? It’s certainly used by leisure cyclists to buy expensive carbon bikes that they probably don’t commute on, but TBH it’s not a major issue. Probably better in the long run to have middle-aged men out cycling than playing golf.
AND HAVE IT STOLEN AT A FUPN DART STATION IN FRONT OF A FUPN CAMERA!!!!
GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Oh that’s cat
The bike to work scheme caused bike prices to increase by 52%

@eoin,
more Fake News!
Bike repairs are on the lower 13.5% VAT rate!

Thanks Cian, that’s genuinely helpful. I will be having a word with my bike servicing place whose invoice I was citing when I first raised bike repairs on BS; I’ll let you know what they say.
