So, our new European Commission overlord (replacing the perma-sozzled tax avoiding, whistleblower-persecuting Jean Claude Juncker) is Ursula von der Leyen. Doesn’t the “von” indicates a sense of entitlement you wouldn’t even find in an Irish political dynasty.

    Ursula says
“A European army is a vision that might become a reality in generations to come.
“What we see today and what we already achieved is the first concrete steps on this way. By giving birth to the European Defence Union, we have started to build what I like to call the ‘army of the Europeans’.
“We maintain national armies, under the authority of sovereign states, but better coordinated and mutually reinforcing”

    Yet our Constitution states

“The State shall not adopt a decision taken by the European Council [the body comprising the prime ministers of the 28 EU member states] to establish a common defence pursuant to Article 42 of the Treaty on European Union where that common defence would include the State.”

FG want to build up military spending and increase cooperation in overseas military missions. Our media, especially RTE, is useless when it comes to creating a debate (RTE didn’t once cover Pesco BEFORE it was ratified in the Dail and it didn’t cover last week’s defence motion either beforehand).

      What’s you point?
      She wants a pan-European army.
The Irish cannot join unless we amend our constitution.

    You bet right.
I wonder if she will have a sconce at Hitler’s Book of Condolences at the German Embassy in Dublin next time she’s over here giving Varadkar his orders.
You know, the one your Taioseoch signed.
Fortunately Little Leo seems to like older German women telling him what to do.
    There’s a good boy.
    Heh,heh,heh.

charger must be delegating his social media duties to the latvian gardener – standards really are dropping.

Love the old Condolence Book argument. You’re a dog with a bone Charger – not a salmon at all.

Bar her view on tax reform for Europe, she’s a great choice. She has progressive views on a number of topics and she shoots from the hip. She will like be better leader than Juncker.

Regarding a European army, people have their head in the sand if they think that Europe doesn’t need one, or at a minimum, a European wide policy that protects European interests.

I’m getting her face on a tattoo

For our next middle eastern regime change wrecking tour? Having to beg the US for help is totes embarrassing

They took so long deciding – I’d hate to be the result of a barrel-scrape. Still, good luck to her. I would like more governance from Brussels.
