Anna Calvi 2011 – She was incredible, she really should be a worldwide superstar.

Deftones in 2017. Fantastic gig by a band i have listened to for years but it was my first chance to see.

An evening with Eels in 08. Was just Mr.E with The Chet moving between playing drums, saw, guitar and keyboard. Eels style for gigs changes each tour and this was one of most relaxed, yet unique. Gig opened with documentary about his genius physicist dad who developed idea of parallel universes. Added to it being a concept gig.

Flaming lips. They handed out laser pointers for a cool audience participation part. Their hectic festival show indoors really is a mad circus of fun and lovely vibes.

I think I’m quite a laid back person but I F**KIN’ HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT THE FLAMING LIPS.

      1. Yep

To be honest, I’m not a huge fan either. The live show was something else though. Unique experience in the seeming frivolity of it all…if ye hate them it would be a level of hell no doubt.

You’re spot on about Calvi anyway. Seen some footage of performances and looked incredible.

That wasn’t a dig at you Yep, I just find them… and Wayne Coyne especially… so contrived.

  5. Reverend Pall

Rev Al Green at Vicar Street
The most charismatic individual I’ve ever seen
He regularly handed out roses during the show
Every so often he’d say something like I used to be famous for singing “eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee”
    Then he’d sing “eeeeeeeeeeeeeee”
Literally everyone was floating on air afterwards

Wilco at their creative peak in 2007.

They released a nice silkscreen commemorative poster of James Joyce for the gig which I bought but later had nicked.

Mick Wallace clad in a Parma FC Jersey was also at the gig. Later, I remember walking from the gig through a deathly quiet city Centre sensing this was a portent of the bad times to come.

      Dat setlist…

I saw them two years later in Barcelona (Dublin had sold out in seconds). I think they were still at a peak even then!

John Cale; a long time ago, singing Heartbreak Hotel like his leg was stuck in a blender. The pain!!

GRUFF RHYS years ago on the Candylion tour. He sat in an airline pilots uniform inside a giant retro television behind a desk playing all these mad instruments he had scattered about the place. I think there was a 3d element to it, because I still have 3d glasses from the night, aswell as a Candylion brochure thing with cut out origami album art to make when you got home.

It was all seated too, so everyone had a table.

Seen some great gigs there but Mercury Rev performing Deserters Songs has to take the honours..

The Tallest Man On Earth – Not the tallest man on earth by any stretch but despite the false advertising was great live. The tickets to The Tallest Man On Earth were for my girlfriend, whos now my wife – our ceremony started with us walking down the aisle together with Landing Cliffs by Explosions in the Sky playing.

Après Match doing commentary for the live (‘loyve’) World Cup Soccer Final in 2006 between Italy and France. Ah they made a boring match hilarious. The celebrations then outside of every chipper in Dublin was unreal, notably nearby Vincenzo’s. Couldn’t get a single of chips at all.
