Dublin City Council has announced a new fee of €630 for the use of sandwich boards

Richard Guiney, CEO of Dublin Town said the cost of doing business in Dublin is already high.

“In Dublin, people pay four times what they pay in the West End of London and multiples of what they pay in other comparable cities,” he said. “So we think that on this one it’s probably disproportionate.”

That’s just greedy. The boards, if looked after and positioned properly do no harm – except to graphic design standards.

they clog up the paths. In saying that DCC could do a lot more. Those scaldy looking electricity boxes that surround the Luas line, particularly around college green can and should go underground

How are technicians supposed to access them if they are underground- they are much more vital pieces of infrastructure than some chalkboard advertising fish and chips.

They are called Morlocks. We could feed them homeless people as payment. now Leo, where’s my cheque?

ask the technicians in Bordeaux or most other cities that use trams and didn’t scrimp on the infrastructure

except they’re never positioned properly – they’re a fupping scourge and should be banned altogether

      + seagulls

Why should a private business get to occupy the public property that is owned by us all, for free?

And trip blind people and block wheelchairs. They’re unnecessary & harmful. Why must everything be buyable?

They should just be banned. The photo shows a pavement that is completely inaccessible for wheelchair users, the blind and parents with prams.

Many sight conditions are not ‘blind’- sometimes I never even see what I am typing on here.

look, can we all just agree that it’s much better and safer to stay at home and order fish and chips from justeat? i mean, temple bar – if the signs or the seagulls or the buskers don’t get you, then the tourists and the stink of p1ss definitely will.

Don’t order from justeat, they charge the takeaways an extortionate amount to be listed. Browse on justeat but call direct.

      Otherwise sure.

Ordering decent fish and chips from justeat is akin to trying to have sex with a bodybuilding bouncer in a smart car.

Surprisingly enough Let’s Eat In had some of the finest fish-and-chips fish in the south of the county. They took it off the menu about a month after I found this out though.

The chips themselves were a bit cack obviously, they were the Chinese takeaway chips, you know how they are, but the battered cod was sublime.

When’s the last time you ordered fish and chips to be delivered? The fish is usually fine but the chips, by the time they reach you, are lukewarm and soggy. If you can’t call and collect, settle for beans on toast.

Ditto what someone said upthread about wheelchair users. Are they supposed to leapfrog over those bloody boards?

Beans on toast? Try cold beans on well buttered fresh sliced pan. Butter well, put some beans in the middle and fold over.

Ha. That’s gas coming from Guiney. His whole ‘Dublin town’ thing is a double tax on business in dublin city.
