Curious collection of dead insect bodies and a large web on the office windowsill revealed this specimen lurking behind an old modem. Anyone know what it is? Quite large as these things go. pic.twitter.com/u9LEvi1up0

+ 8 legs
It’s called a spider.
Giant house spider (Eratigena atrica) completely harmless. That’s a daycent one
Aka bloodthirsty nightmare creep

From my observations they appear in the house when the weather cools or with heavy rains….to scare the bejeesus out of herself
Better Nuke the entire site from Orbit, just to be on the safe side
needs a euro beside it for scale.
the euro is hidden behind it!
It ate the euro.
Run!
“Modem”?
“Old modem”?
It’s one of those ones you’ve to immediately smash with a phonebook, you can tell by the fact that it’s got 8 legs and it’s not an octopus.
“Phonebook”?
Jaysus, have we been transported back in time to the 1980s. What next, Olivia Newton-John?
I like spiders
I also hate flies
win win
flies, and to rob an appropriate meme, my dog says sky raisens, she can’t spell either but I know what she means
There’s a correlation study between fear/disgust and how more right wing you are. If you cant even be in the same room as hairy legs (pictured) then your probably also a god fearing conservative.. deep down. Personally Id leave her where she is. They are good insect control. And if I had to get rid of her (if I thought she’d get stepped on by accident) id pick her up and shoo her somewhere dry outside. Just cup your hand over her and when you feel her climb into your hand and wiggle ,cup both hands around and get someone to open the door for you and fling her into a bush. They don’t even bite. (not that you can feel anyway) Try it next time, it weird at first. but easier than trying to get a glass and paper. If you wantonly squash these things then theirs something wrong with you.
I hate HATE them, I was properly arachnophobic as a kid (not just I didn’t like them or was a bit squeamish). I’m not so bad nowadays, I can stand them in the room unless I’m trying to sleep. I get a jar and a bit of card and put them outside. I don’t see any reason to kill them.
I fairness, they talk a lot at night which can keep you up. Also they climb in and out of your mouth while you snore to show off to the lady spiders. Which isn’t very nice.
Well that’s sleep ruined for me forever
You don’t need any beauty sleep. :)
* sick in mouth *
Some of them also pose for selfies when you are asleep and post the images without your say so on Instagram. They don’t even tag you or anything.
Pure. Horror.
Just put a bird in your mouth of an evening
I heard about an old woman who had employed a spider to take care of an internal fly issue, she subsequently used a bird to get rid of the spider, I don’t remember what happened after that but I think it all turned out fine.

Your comment reminded me of this
Islamophobia = arachnophobia
Really Pat?
While you’re at it can you give me some tips on how to be a challenging and interesting commenter without getting modded to death? Maybe if I keep up being a bit nicer, less of a bully and not swamping threads with multiple comments, I’ll be off moderation before I know it. Who knows?
Haha I’m trying
Eoin he’s talking about you as well!
In fairness the other prolific commenters were given free reign to migrate their effluent in the past
As for me I’m working very hard on a big running project for the past two months hence my utter failure to have a life, but it should be wrapped up this week!
@Postmanpat
This.
They provide excellent disease spreading insect removal at zero cost.
Whats not to love about them? Sure they are a little hairy and have lots of legs but they have zero interest in you or your manky, overly acidic skin!
