He claimed

The quality of public representatives here truly is shocking, not unique to Ireland either.
Sadly, the conduct and attitudes of our trough snaffling gombeens, rent-seekers and corporate welfarists serves to legitimise poor conduct throughout. It certainly feels that nearly everybody is gaming the system.

Do these people not have to provide an invoice for proof of these expenses? Or do they just pull a number out of their arses?
Claimants must submit a return, signed off by an Auditor to SIPO. AFAIK SIPO doesn’t require sight of the invoices and is reliant on the third party sign off.

I don’t want to distract from Senator Norris, but I can’t find one political party or Independent politician in this list of expenses who comes out smelling of roses.

Should cost around €200 a year hosting and a bottle at the end of the year for the intern who does the updates.

Years ago a friend in the public gallery of the Seanad was sitting beside some corporate lobbyists when Norris approached, saying to them “You tell me what to say and I’ll say it.” Pretty shocking for an “independent” senator of long standing.
