This afternoon
Heuston Railway Station, Dublin.
Paula Carbozer (top right), from Irish Rail, and Mthi Sydney ( top left) from Dublin Bus launch a new anti-racism campaign on Ireland’s public transport, featuring 100s of commuters “standing in solidarity against racism”.
Over 900 commuters donated their selfies to create the artwork for the campaign.
In fairness.

I am sorry that this is even needed here. I have been welcomed with, literally, open arms in so many countries that the need here, in the land of ‘a thousand welcomes’, to have a campaign like this truly hurts my sense of being Irish. We are better than this!
To all my fellow people who are not exactly like me: welcome! A thousand times Welcome!
+1000
Yes. An anti-racism campaign is sad to see, it’s like a very obvious sticking plaster.

Immigrants that are here legally I have no problem with.
But will we see advertising campaigns proclaiming ‘stop illegal immigration to Ireland ‘ on the sides of buses.?
And that makes racism ok?
Did you even read (sorry- understand) my comment?
Did you even understand my comment?
oh we “under” stand it alright
Can’t stand it in fact.
Doubt if you do.
You’re some piece of work GG.
thank you!
Elaborate please Milly.
Because you are the embodiment of a logical fallacy….
Again, please elaborate instead of using a catchphrase.
You’re the back legs of a pantomime horse
Any more elaboration needed please call or email.
Oh a clever Richard who doesn’t know the different types of logical fallacy. GIYF. Toddle along. This is a grown up area.
I’ll see your red herring and raise you an ad hominem…
LAAAAAAAAMP!!!!!!
Area 51 more like.
Or the inside of John Of Gods…
Ah Rosette, you see what he/she did there then.
Yes indeed I know exactly what I did. Called out your assertions not just by actually demonstrating your logical fallacy but by matching your second one with one of my own.
Glad you saw what I did there!
So now that we have established what logical fallacy actually means, I’ll ask you again then to elaborate, instead of using a catchphrase, as to how your thought process applied it to me in your one-liner. (You do know what ‘elaborate means I take it?)
No. I really don’t think I need to. You’ve been called out enough times now.
Isn’t it great the way you can waltz in, make a comment, and use such an excuse then not to explain what you mean. And the. make another comment about being called out, again with nothing to substantiate what you write.
That’s a ‘run away’ comment. You’re happy to do that. No substance to you Millie. I had thought you were above that, but obviously think that you’ve somehow proven something.
Attempts at shaming, and pearl clutching.
Oh well since you insist, and so prettily too.
I think your comments on the pride thread earlier were pretty nasty. They were narrow minded and focused on one pic on one link, which I’m pretty sure you posted – the comments on that forum were absolutely disgusting btw – in an attempt to derail and discredit. If I recall correctly, there was a touch of Helen Lovejoy about your comments. Those comments hinted at a prejudice towards the LGBTQ+ community. Perhaps I’ve read you wrong.
Your comment on illegal immigrants on a thread about racism… well I wonder, what conclusion did you expect people to draw from that? You may not have explicitly said anything about skin colour or creed or race, but considering the context of the comment it’s pretty hard not to read it as xenophobic and all that infers.
It may not have been your intention but I suspect you’re intelligent enough to know what your words say, even indirectly. So you either have an agenda – and in which case, own it – or you’re not nearly as clever as I thought you were
So you’re pretty sure i posted the picture. Well, that just about sums your thought process up, and your resultant comments. I’d be interested to know how you came to that conclusion. As i’ve just said above, you’ve no substance if you form an opinion based on assumptions.
What comments did you find nasty? Was it the question that you and others refused to answer ? And your ‘if I recall correctly’ get-out. That item is still here, you don’t need to wonder if you recall anything – just go back to yesterday’s pages. I had to google Helen Lovejoy. I wouldn’t be familiar with the Simpsons.
But i’m actually interested what comments in particular would make you assume a prejudice against the LGBTQ+ community. The thread is still there.
Like I said.
Shaming and pearl clutching.
You actually addressed none of my points. Interesting.
I addressed your assumptions. You made ‘points’ about nasty comments, but when I asked you for examples of those, you couldn’t provide them. So, yes, I addressed the points in your post.
So, second time of asking – which comments on the pride thread did you find nasty? Once you provide those, I’ll certainly deal with them
You not only raised immigration on a thread about racism but you attempted to steer the conversation into one ABOUT immigration- that was deliberate and not the first time.
You need a new strategy dear because homing in a single point and repeatedly asking the same question, then going on the attack because someone is not answering you is getting old- very old.
And that’s supposed to answer my post directed to Millie, is it dahling? You know, the one where I asked for examples of the posts on the Pride discussion?
Maybe you can offer to have it permanently parked in your barnyard?
Maybe. And change the reg no. as often as you change your name here.
Nice of you to eventually add the name you were posting under yesterday. Gold star on its way.
+1 billion.
Showing your true colours now boyo- because someone is non white that automatically makes them an immigrant or non national does it?
And more to the point- most of the ‘immigrants’ in Ireland are from Eastern Europe and they are white.
you’re only seeing that now?
Bit like you and your taig/sti comments.
Now read my comment more carefully. Have I mentioned colour or race? You have though. I’ve mentioned the words “legally” and “illegal”
Looks like you are having your own argument with yourself on a subject that is your own hobby horse.
Simple question then for you. Do you support illegality?
Do you support the circus as well as the pantomime industry Giggidy?
They are lucky to have you.
GG = Legend
You’re the front legs ..
This topic is abut racism and you are the one attempting to associate it with immigration- nobody else.
Everyone knows what you’re at. You brought it up here on this topic for a reason.
He’s no better that moron on Barrow street who called a member of the Green party an immigrant- even though she is born and bred Irish. It’s on record and he should be prosecuted for it.
Enough of this bullpoo.
Another one that won’t elaborate.
So soq. You evaded my question. Do you support illegality? The answer is a simple yes or no. Have you an aversion to answering that?
You will NOT control the narrative on this subject because it is far too serious- people trying to do their jobs in Irish Rail and Dublin Bus deserve better.
+1
a perfectly “respectful” woman in her 60’s decided to whisper to me on the 67 yesterday that “we were being over run and there were no Irish left in Dublin and that she was moving to NZ”
as you can imagine I put a flea in her soon to be immigrant ear but I was disgusted and embarrassed she thought I’d be in cahoots with her racism
Lol you must like the type Janet
Too Aryan and beautiful for your own good
my sister said it’s because my resting face is ” I just smelt poo face ” but that’s just my bus face
soq. You’re a busted flush after yesterday. Twice you proclaimed you hate taigs. And yet you say you’re attending an anti-hatred march tomorrow. Whoosh.
You won’t answer a simple question because you’ll be outed pretty quick.
(Janet. I suggest you look up ‘taig’. )
The point being made by me is that companies (some state-owned) are producing advertisements declaring support for all kinds of minorities which I have no problem with. But when the question is asked why they dont run advertisements declaring opposition to things illegal (and I gave an example in my original post), the racism card comes out. We have/had ads in the past at ports for instance telling people to watch out for drugs etc. Drugs are illegal. Well why no ads to watch out for illegal immigration? Is it racist to ask that?
I know what a taig is giddy, I’d suggest SOQ was probably being ironic although I missed that thread I believe
Are you suggesting it’s the publics job to watch out for people who don’t have their paperwork in order, are you comparing humans to a dangerous drug like heroin ? Do you really think your comments are helpful or more likely to stir up hate and give racists the excuse they are only too happy to jump on to be sillies ?
“I’d suggest soq was being ironic..”
Of course you would..
yeah, he’s a nordie Catholic arguing a point about hate speech, I went back to the thread and it confirmed irony for me,
The better half wasn’t with you so Janet? PMSL.
n’a monsieur doesn’t have to slum it on the bus
You are correct on the taig thing Janet but I wouldn’t bother as he is intent on dragging immigration into a topic which has nothing to do with it. As I said- controlling the narrative.
Says more about him than anyone else really.
I always had Giddy down as female
It seems like everyone has giggidy down.
Hi Janet.
Doubtful if the comments were ironic. No indication in subsequent comments. There was a long thread yesterday and it was mostly like today’s thread with all sorts of accusations being thrown around. But invariably the answers weren’t forthcoming. (Like the yes/no question here about illegality)
Throughout this thread, so far anyway, there hasn’t been one racist comment. So, no, I don’t think.my post does that (stirs racism). It has though brought plenty of ad hominem attacks towards me. That says something.
I think some time and advertising should be spent making people aware of how to report illegality (real or possible). We have it in the insurance sector. We also had a government one about dole cheats cheat us all. Both were high visibility campaigns. (Or am I asking too much)
what do you gain from reporting someone you suspect to be illegal ?
don’t you see how a campaign like that would foster distrust in anyone different at best and outright racism at worse ?
can you imagine being legal but every racist busybody reporting you as suspicious each time you move somewhere new ? that’s just one disgusting possiblescenario based on what you suggest ?
I don’t think an ad campaign would the right way to tackle illegal immigration. I suppose the danger could be that it would reinforce or encourage racist attitudes in society. For some, it can be very easy to cross the line. – the dole cheat campaign I could see as encouraging division too. Insurance fraud is a different case maybe
I didn’t see your post when I wrote mine, Janet
I think you put it better, I forgot to breath before posting
The EU policing agency and a US report clearly state that Ireland is not doing enough on human trafficking . Victims are rotated , and sexually exploited including children. We should hang our heads in shame that it continues every year in this country and we can’t chalk this down to racism. It’s opportunity for ruthless criminals to exploit the most vulnerable irrespective of nationality or skin colour.
sex trafficking shouldn’t get swept up in the same conversation although it’s an important conversation
Hi Janet. Trust you to put it into perspective. Looking at it from that point of view, yes you’re correct. Such an ad campaign would probably foster distrust and racism. I don’t mind admitting it – it was wrong to suggest such a pointed campaign.
cool :)
You mean racial profiling.
Fair dues
Anyways- chinky biatch should frig off back to where she comes from- an impressive *\ 39 /* have signed so far.
https://www.change.org/p/the-irish-people-call-for-hazel-chu-s-resignation
Was that one directed at me soq? Are you suggesting that I’ve posted something about Hazel Chu?
Just go away darling- you’ll not be missed.
Ah, soq runs away once again. Enjoy your latch-on to Fiona tomorrow.
No idea who Fiona is- but whatever.
In my mind it is shoving a pressure hose up the authorities ass so they are forced to do something- pretty sure that Frank Allen the Chairman of Iarnród Éireann agrees.
Forced to do what?
Ban the Internet?
Turn it into an echo chamber?
soq. You’ve an extremely short memory if you can’t remember the name of the founder of the SpeakersUnicorner who has organized tomorrows protest. You know, the one your say you’re attending in Irishtown and Barrow Street.
A reminder https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9JgLK7fJRZE&feature=youtu.be
Ireland needs to take the lead in creating programmes that provide illegal immigrants with a pathway to gaining legal status … that is to say, we need to do in our own house exactly what we keep asking other countries to do for Irish immigrants.
Your comment on a piece abut anti racism on public transport heavily implies that you’re okay with racism against illegal immigrants. You may not have meant it that way but that’s how it comes across.
Fair dues to Dublin Bus. Sad it’s needed, but it needs to be faced.
The office of the DPC investigating images….?

Jaysus
I fell asleep. But it seems I missed little.
Apologies, millie, it was not my intention to have you lead.
Didn’t know you were a couple into Ballroom Dancing.
Back on topic- the real topic. I have been in the company of non white people when racial slurs were used and on more than one occasion I had to be held back and told to let it go. Why should I let it go? Why should they let it go? Why should the first reaction of any Irish citizen be to ‘let it go’?
What right do these bigots have to speak to others in such a manner? How dare they claim to be speaking for me or for my country because they don’t- not now, not ever.
Campaigns like this are fine but what is really needed is for the laws to be enforced, especially online. And yes the more cunning will tip toe around the topics and attempt to manipulate conversations but at least it is with the knowledge that if they do step over that line- they will be held to account.
can we have another campaign which I feel is even more important which I am calling “Stop scangerism!” on public transport? As I see this all the time.
