Affirmative Action

at

Ah here.

Historian David Lunn tweetz:

In place of the Black and Tans — the notorious division of the Royal Irish Constabulary — [historian] Jeremy Black enlightens us as to the violent role of “the black and trans people”…..Easter Rising? Or Stonewall Riot? #proofreadingmatters (as does knowing your subject)…

FIGHT!

Rebel song reference with bonus subtle back of the class snigger at trans people. Top banter alright

The non-literal intended joke is on the now inappropriate line in the famous song. Hence the ‘Oh’ when the small print is read. I do see where you’re coming from and have changed it and I am sorry for the offence caused.

I could explain it better. It’s meant to conjure up an old rebel singing the song and realising too late it’s not the black and tans but the black and trans and goes ‘Oh’. It’s inappropriate but innocent if that makes any sense.

            Well
            I laughed

And I’m laughing now again at the indignation

And it’s going to be in my head for the day

            Hahahaha

That’s quite an exposure for a well-published (and decorated!) historian not to have done their research properly. And he an Englishman.

Whatever about a typo, it seems the lack of IRA uniforms apparently encouraged a lack of care when mounting illegal reprisals, i.e. extra judicial killings, i.e. murders.

Impressive levels of blame shifting there.

One person’s “contentious reprisal” is another person’s “state sanctioned systematic terrorism of unarmed civilian population by paramilitary forces”.

Or even hum The Minstrel Boy -there won’t be enough room on Twitter and Facebook for all the complaints and hashtags

Or mention The Yellow Bellies – might trigger self-esteem issues – we’re all body positive now

      Limerick, You’re a Lady – not anymore you’re not

And as for We’re on the one Road well good luck figuring out North Men South Men Comrades All

LGBTQRSTUV behind d’ Wire kinda works tho’

Headline opportunity sadly missed: Come Out Ye Black and Trans. Oh, wait, I see the dispute about the headline – sorry if I misjudged you.

Christ don’t tell Gemma – if she finds out it was actually them that burned Cork, she’ll have a conniption
