The Edge Of Reason

at

The 49-year-old is said to be “stunned” after station bosses dropped his Cutting Edge show despite strong ratings and an IFTA award under his belt.

An RTE spokesman yesterday told the Irish Sun: “Cutting Edge is taking a rest for the moment.

“We are working on other projects with Brendan, which will hopefully see him back on screen in 2020.”

But a show insider told us Cutting Edge “won’t be back” on RTE screens.

They added: “If RTE don’t have the money to make Cutting Edge this year, it’s unlikely they’ll have the cash to make it in 2020 when they’ll have even less money.”

Too edgy?

Not edgy enough?

We may never know

Not enough unique features for a format. Otherwise, you’d have to pay a licensing fee next time you’re down the pub with your chairde. As for a transfer from loss-making RTE to TV3, good luck, Brendan O’Connor isn’t an evil person, he’s just a mediocre presenter and there’s a whole gaggle of them available in the €50k range.

O’Connor lost all credibility when he made a shameless plug to prop up the housing market, even thought the dogs on the street knew prices were collapsing:

“The Irish stock market is apparently in meltdown, because of the housing market, which is also apparently in meltdown. ” Both were, but O’Connor decided that a newspaper article full of lies was what was needed.

I wonder how this favour was returned?

Ha, love that article, so embarrassing, mentions people like Jim Power who still are used as ‘experts’ even today. Although he was proven almost right, just had to wait 12 years later… (joking)

Honestly the first and only time I watched it, it was surprisingly good. I didn’t know about the property bubble shilling garrett is talking about though. so that’s disappointing. Like I said below, the guest were a little too candid for the RTE bosses nerves.

The only worthwhile RTE original I’ve ever seen in decades. It must have ruffled a few corporate and political feathers. Set off to many independent thought alarms and we cant have that. They were probably worried a guest might say something negative about the licence fee on air. RTE needs to room to make more dumb Daniel and his Beard go caravanning .. I guess.

O’Connor has been a cats paw for the Establishment for years.

And an attack dog for Lord O’Reilly at the Indo.

How many times was Niamh Horan on it? WE DO NOT OWE THESE PEOPLE A LIVING.

RTE is not a job for life.

I’d guess the appearance fee – if there even was one – was pretty low for this

Have to make way for D4bes new discovery. Olivia O’Leary. Sisters are doing it for themselves.

        That’s my point.
We will probably have another Gaybo return too at some stage. Interviewing ex RTÉ ‘stars’ or something.

Given your comments on here- I’d say you’d be arguing for someone who can focus on nitpicking a Pride picture and associating racism with immigration?

Perhaps he can do a Theresa/Frank court action to force RTE to give him another series?

Jennifer O’Connell really needs to set her sights higher. A lot higher.

Perhaps Marian Finucane will interview him to help him through this loss.

Why on earth, as she says in her tweet, would people come up to her and tell her how much they enjoyed O’Connor’s show?

That’s just luvvie rubbish. No one gives a riddlers.

      1. Lilly

Exactly. No one would randomly approach that sour puss on the street. I don’t buy it for a second. Was she a regular on his show by any chance?

Illegal- and what is grown in Offaly stinks of mildew- among other things- like pig sh|t.
